Is Ron White Southern Anymore?
I think Ron White's Blue Collar Comedy days are behind him. It seems all the stand-up comedian wants to joke about now are things that are dirty, vulgar and definitely not Southern.
And that's OK. You can't talk about the same things forever. So he's apparently chosen to move on from the Texas-born, Atlanta-based kind of comedy that he brought with him on Jeff Foxworthy's rise to fame starting in the late ‘90s. At his show on Saturday night (Jan. 31) in Chicago, he no longer talked about being drunk in public. Or how you can't fix stupid. Those you can really only see when Comedy Central runs older clips of his routine.
But live? Live is a whole new kind of Ron White. One who regales the audience with stories of his wife's pierced private part (and how it looks like the plug in his grandma's bathtub), his marijuana arrest and the accompanying mug shot (and wondering if he looked more like Nick Nolte or Glen Campbell), how Houston's Crown Paper was suing him for criticisms he'd made about the smell their plant produces and how much he enjoys the bidet system at the Four Seasons Hotel Seattle.
Dressed in all black, with a cigar in his hand and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label Scotch by his side, he did an hour-long set for the sold-out crowd. And this was just one of two sold-out shows that night. But if the fans were looking for the old Ron White that fit in so nicely with Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall, they may have been disappointed. White's only real reference to the his rural roots was when he was making fun of his snobby sister-in-law. She told him, "Nobody would pay to see your kind of hillbilly comedy." I think she's dead wrong. I predict a lot of people would pay dearly to see that hillbilly comedy brought back again.

cmt isn’t all that anymore. Bruce Springsteen rocked at the Super Bowl and Faith Hill only wished she was noticed at all.
JW says:
Have you ever sang on the Super Bowl? I think not. Faith may not have sung during the Half Time Show like Bruce Springsteen (who truly did put on a GREAT show) but she sang beautifully and looked even better! To me singing at the Super Bowl’s a HUGE accomplishment—and she’s sang on there TWICE now. Not many people can say that ;)
Vicki says:
Faith was beautiful and sang so wonderful! It was a proud moment for Country music!
Rita says:
Faith was great! She was very moving to me and I can’t help but be in awe of the voice she has.
For Ron White, I have never seen him live but wonder if he edits his shows for the audiance that he is shooting for? He does get a bit dirty at times for my taist but then, thats why I have a remote control. I agee with you that hillbilly comedy can do just great on its own.

Leigh says:
Faith Hill was the most unimportant one at the Super Bowl. Country singers should not be allowed to sing at American Sports events.
BrendaL says:
Carrie Underwood should have and could have done much better than that old pruned face Faith.

Yes, by all means Mainstream fans, turn a blog about Ron White, into another “bash your Country artists” thread. I’m sure that’s what the blogger had in mind when she wrote it. It’s no wonder CMT thinks their audience is a bunch of clueless hicks… your sure do act that way.

So lemme get this straight..Someone from CHICAGO like you Alison, is going to tell people from the South (like me) what “Southern” is and isn’t?! Thanks for giving me yet another laugh LOL
If you know ANYTHING about Ron White, you would know he has done this kind of comedy his entire career. He cleaned it up for the blue collar tour because he had to.He’s back to being the real “Ron White” now.
But only a “Southern” person would know this..

Let’s do a blog titled “Is Alison Bonaguro still yankee girl from Chicago?”

I can’t stand Ron White- “sugared” version or not. I do like Bill & Jeff though.
Zel says:
Bidets must really be getting popular if Ron White appreciates them. And why not? It is impossible to clean with just paper. Paper leaves a residue that allows bacteria or fungus to flourish. This can result in undesired itching, odor and the possibility of inflammation or infection - - stinkbutt and skid-marks. Why should rednecks have dirty assh@les anyway? Hope Ron’s wife is keeping her pierced private parts clean with a bidet also!

Faith Hill is Awesome and has a voice, and I cannot stand Ron White.
Justin says:
Why in the world is Faith Hill being discussed in the comments for this story? But while we’re here, it’s pretty easy to sing great at the Super Bowl when you lip sync like she and Jennifer Hudson were doing. This is fairly common knowledge.

Ron White was never Southern. He’s Texan. Big difference.

Come on people… “Have you ever smelt the paper mill?” They should research any birth defects in that area. The smell is terrible, and the river is just down the road from there. In my oppinion, it was very small of the mill to sue someone about commenting about the stink. How silly of them. Can we say, “Law suit abuse”???
