Randy Houser Sings More Than Just Ballads

Randy HouserRandy Houser performed last night (Jan. 27) in Nashville at a showcase that also featured Jonathan Singleton and the Grove. The word of the night was LOUD. Before this, I had only seen Houser perform acoustically with a small group of backup singers, mostly doing ballads. Those performances had a controlled feel that made them memorable, like you knew there was more, but seeing him in the role of bandleader was impressive.

After starting the show with the string-bending "My Kind of Country," Houser thanked the crowd for supporting his first single, "Anything Goes," but said with a telling laugh that he is "ready for the next one." That next one happens to be "Boots On," a high-energy, slide guitar-heavy song about stepping out, but not necessarily dressing to impress. Thankfully, Houser didn't feel the need to dress the part of his character in "Boots On," instead opting for an all-black suit. (Bonus points for actually looking like the leader of the band.)

Houser finished the short set with "Anything Goes" and "Back to God," but with the full band, these songs took on a similar high-energy feel as the previous two. With the end of "Back to God" still at full power, Houser said his nearly inaudible thank-you's to the crowd, grabbed his drink and stepped off the stage to let the band finish up. This other musical side of Houser was a welcome sight to see, especially since he seemed to revel in it so much. After spending so much time reining it in, I guess he's glad to just get loud.

Randy is one GREAT writer and singer BUT more importantly, he is a nice guy that will take time with the fans (which he has in ever growing numbers) !!!!

I’ve loved him since the first time I heard “Anything Goes”. I know he didn’t write that one BUT man can he sing it!! The rest of the CD which he wrote or co-wrote is just awesome!!

Best of luck to this up and coming singer!! I know I’ll keep supporting him–

I’ve seen Randy for 3 years now at Key West Songwriter’s Festival and he’s always rocked the house, even with just an acoustic guitar going solo. He’s paid his dues and I wish him all the best in his performing. I think he can be a star!!!!
