Grammy Party Sighting: Robert Plant and Brenda Lee
People tend to talk in pretty broad strokes about the lines blurring. How country is crossing over to rock. And how newer music takes its cues from the old. But until you've seen what I saw Monday night (Jan. 26) in Nashville, it always just seems like a nice idea but nothing really real. But I just watched Robert Plant, the tall drink of water that he is, having what looked like a honest-to-goodness heart-to-heart talk with the tiny country-pop legend Brenda Lee. It was at a party for all the Nashville-based Grammy nominees. Lee is receiving a Grammy for lifetime achievement, and Plant is, well, Robert Plant. He himself is a blur of American/English/rock/country/metal. And then there's his own Grammy nominations this time around for the all kinds of things in all kinds of categories for the musical brilliance he's created with Alison Krauss. So seeing Plant and Lee together made me think that friendships can come in so many forms, especially when music is the common bond.

Nice picture. So….which one is which?…….sorry ;)
reddrag says:
LOL That’s not nice! Are you implying Brenda has a facial hair problem? ;)
Mel says:
Robert Plant is amazing and this collaboration with Alison is wonderful. Can’t wait to see what the next album brings.
Dan M. says:
Haha, love that picture.
solongsowrong says:
Hey Mel, of course Robert and Alison’s collaboration was wonderful. What do you think will be on the new album? All new material, or maybe a little of what they put together while on tour, thrown in?
Kim says:
Robert looks like he had a good time. maybe a little too good…
Brenda looks a little scared.
terri says:
Robert is great! Love th pic with Brenda!
peter says:
robert u sounded greaat at the o2 u sound great with alison what a shame 40th anniversary of ledzep and u ignore everybody even yourself thanks for 40 years of wailing but remember if u think old u get and feel old so call the j s page jones and make some new magic not for us yourselves i hearing it getting louder robert
Gary says:
I think it’s great that Robert would rather explore something new than go relive his youth with Led Zeppelin. Raising Sand is a great record, and the live show was outstanding. I can’t wait to see them tour again for their second album.
Robert says:
I knew when I heard that they were both at that party that Plant would be seeking Brenda Lee out. He’s always been a great fan of that era and type of music. He’s a scholar/historian of it, really.
Webb says:
I wish I knew Robert was in town. btw Robert would not be reliving anything if he got in the studio with the 3 J’s, because it would be new music from a group of musicians that formed the greatest rock and roll band EVER. It would not have to be Zeppelin. They could call themselves “The Knobs” and it would still be great.
After a new record then you play 25 dates in the US.
5 cities and 5 dates per city…..
Yes…you play old Zep, but the strain and travel would not be too much for our Robert.
It would definately be better than what Robert and Allison will do on a follow up album.
I love you Robert, but come on…get a clue….
Jimmy Page says:
Hey Buddy come play with us we need you in the band! Your fans want you back!
JP
Jeff says:
1 more Zep album Mr. Plant! Rock fans do need you back, Rock is dying and we need a kickstart! and your not to old to keep rocking. Your in your prime. LETS MOVE!!! YALLAH!!!
solongsowrong says:
Robert’s about moving forward, not back. If Zep fans haven’t been following along and just don’t get or refuse to understand the reasons behind Robert Plant’s music… you probably never will, so it’s no use anyone even commenting on it to try to explain… including Robert himself.
Carmen L. Skeparnis says:
Robert is having the time of his life and he should not be deprived of a good time after all he has entertained us all well over the years and now it is finally his time to have all the fun…
perry como says:
Robert plant can no longer sing anymore raising sand was a prime example more like whispering than singing.
solongsowrong says:
He can no longer sing? Funny. Yet this record still sold more than most Mainstream records this year, brought him one Grammy win already, and 5 more nominations for it this year. As well as awards and nominations in every other major award show on two continents during the past year.
I guess there are just some people that prefer a whispering style over screams of Baby, Baby!
Mike Keating says:
Robert I have a book of poems I wrote back in the 70s and just mybe there are some songs in there for a get together with your old crew. A group of us sat down with you at the Bottom Line in NYC after you played MSG and watched Tom Scott& the LA Express and had a good time.
Avacado says:
Robert, you can sing anything and everything you like and always, always sound amazing. You still do the Led Zep stuff even when you’re “raising sand” and you change it up and it’s even still GREAT. I love it all especially all those great solo CD’s and OMG my favorite “Dreamland”. So SEXXXXXYYYYYYY!!! AND on your next tour, PLEASE< PLEASE do “Song to the Siren” and do it SOLO! It’s unbearably beautiful with you singing it and I only want to hear YOU sing it!
