Jessica Simpson: Greenville or Bust
Multiple choice: This photo shows Jessica Simpson showing off her:
a. Latest single
b. Powerful vocals
c. New dress
d. Other
You be the judge. The photo is from her performance Thursday night (Jan. 22) in Greenville, S.C., as she opened the show for Rascal Flatts. My first reaction upon seeing this photo was that she must be in pain. My second, well, I'll keep that to myself. But I'm pretty sure this picture says or, rather, shows it all. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to hate on Jessica Simpson. I think she is a beautiful woman. But what are your thoughts about her fashion choice?

cindy white says:
Fighting for longevity in the business..Trying hard for
approval rating..Using sex as a weapon.
Kim says:
got lost on her way to the biker convention, again…
Taylor says:
I was at that concert and she was amazing! Just because her boobs were out doesnt mean anything. If someone with small boobs wore this outfit nothing woulb be said! She cant help what God gave her!
Big AJ fan says:
I hadn’t read any of the blog and my first reactiion was
OMG that poor girl has no self respect.
My answer to your multiple choice is an obvious
d. other
Melissa says:
I agree with Taylor on this one!
Gulp!! says:
Talent comes in many forms - Her personnel in charge of wardrobe proves it!!
The concert-goer above says she actually performed well too. Give the girl a break. It’s all part of the total package.
The boobs look great - good, really, really good - just like her dress, and her hair, her make-up, the band behind her, the stage they’ve built, the lights, etc.
Would you rather watch some troll up there waddling about, instead?
Greatdivide08 says:
So it’s ok for Dolly Parton,Kellie Pickler, and Lee Ann Womack to show that part of their body but not Jessica who is 10 times hotter than all of them? Give me a break and leave the girl alone.
dan says:
i agree with countryiscool Is it chicken or fish only talent is showing off her balloons and it still fells.
Amy B. says:
sorry that was supposed to read “kicks all their…”
Greatdivide08 says:
Sounds to me there are a lot of jealous women out there
countryiscool says:
God gives people MINDS too, pity some don’t use them instead.
jessica says:
can you please send me a song of yours.
Amy B. says:
I am also reminded of “if you’ve got it flaunt it, if you don’t, fake it”
Dani says:
Great headline Whitney!
JB says:
ech, she shouldnt be opening for them. Taylor Swift or Randy Houser should
Amy B. says:
My point being at 19, a full time bra is needed, whether you are A, B, C and so on. Especially when your the one supposedly family-friendly.
And as I mentioned before, we found the illustrious Dolly Parton on the cover of playboy. Jessica, like Dolly uses her “assets.” I have no problem with it or how she does it. No matter how she plays it, DD is not that subtle!
Taylor says:
Who is Randy Houser? And no not just anyone can sing like her, and im guessing youve never heard her live either.
Great Performance says:
She was outstanding!
sjcamp3212 says:
Greatdivide08 - her cd was #1 for about a second, and has since quickly dropped on the charts. Its around #60 now which is horrible considering all the promotion leading up to its release. Its a “bust” just like her last pop album.
Sunkie says:
Awe, I agree with Magneto, go back to pop!!!!!! Whitney, I too loved your headliner, catchy. Let us just hope that Jessica doesn’t catch a cold, man now that would be a bust.
William says:
Even though I normally don’t oppose a little cleavage, this is a bit much to take. Someone needs to tell her that less is more.
Taylor says:
I agree that maybe there was a little to much cleavage. But the point I was trying to make is that if someone with smaller boobs wore the exact same outfit nothing would be said, so basically your criticizing her body and not her outfit.
Taylor says:
Innocent? She sure doesnt dress like shes innocent.
Amy B. says:
Mrs. Joe Don Rooney (Tiffany Fallon) was Playmate of the year. She’s not worried.
Amy B. says:
Allison Demarcus was a model. Mrs. Levox is very pretty from the rare pictures of her.
BWH says:
Will it plain to see that the like Jessica, dislike Jessica is about a 50 - 50 split. Jessica is an attractive women. There is nothing wrong with the stage outfit. She has the body to wear it…why not show it. Dolly and Shania have showed just as much. Leave Jessica alone….her country album is more country than thing that Shania has released, yet the county fan base adopted Shania. Dolly and Shania have place their breast out there. Leave Jessica alone…Let her sing…
Sarah says:
If it was anyone other than JS we wouldn’t be here. period. Its one of those things.
Chuck S. says:
Make me want to play for the Dallas Cowboys!
Donna S. says:
Ok lets all pick on Jessica…Well,I saw her at Country Thunder in Wisconsin last July and I have to say,I thought she was fantastic.Yes some in the crowd booed her as was reported by the media, but that was only a handful out of approx 40,000 in attendance.Where I was sitting a standing ovation was observed.Have you listened to her CD yet??? It is VERY good.I have never really paid any attention to Jessica before but since she released her new CD,I personally have to welcome her!!So she wore a dress that could very well be a “throw away” of Dolly’s….BIG DEAL!!Get over it!!
Dustin says:
I bought Jessica’s country album because I am so what of a fan of hers when she was singing pop… I also LOOOOOVE country music even MORE than pop so I was very happy to hear that Jessica was switching and I must say I was let down big time. Her album is ok but it doesnt get anymore than 2 out of 5 stars from me at all… as for this picture, it just seems to me that Jessica is trying WAY TOO HARD to fit into country music she must not realize that we, the country music fans will except anyone for who they are as long as they are true to themselves and I dont believe Jessica is that way with herself at all, unfortunally.
Faye Hilbert says:
I too feel that Jessica Simpson has a terrific voice. It’s just a shame she feels she has to flaunt herself in the fashion she does in order to get noticed. For example, her dress at the Grand Ole Opry was a disgrace. That kind of cleavage should be left for a photo shoot and not for an historical place such as the Opry. She should show more class and if she feels she can open up for great acts such as Rascal Flatts, then maybe she should prove that by her singing and not by her other “assets”. There are many other “GREAT” female singers in country that don’t have to use their bodies to sell their work, case in point, MARTINA MCBRIDE, to me the BEST female country singer with the most class! Jessica and a few others could learn a thing or two from Martina both in the singing and class category!
Triniti K. says:
FYI: shes famous and successful… theres no need for a wardrobe approval for her to be. Therefore, she should be able to wear what she pleases as long as shes happy. She can pull it off and if someone else could im sure they would she wouldn’t let her god given talented voice go to waste so why let her god given looks???
lauren says:
Amy B. and taylor are obviousley jessica fans. First of all i would like to know how carrie underwood and taylor swift were brought into this discussion, i thought we were talking about jessicas way too “out there” outfit? also amy, you say ” those that have minds also use their sex appeal, not just the morons” what i have to say about this is jessica is the one who thought tuna was chicken.! come on now. i now that and i was about 10 years younger than her when she made that statement! anyways, back to the subject at hand, jessica looked trashy and i’m not fond of her voice.
Jay says:
That outfit looks awful! Obviously, she wore that for attention and she got it. I’m sorry but she comes off as clueless and not much class. I guess if she can’t get people to come and listen to her sing…she’ll give them a peep show. Not for me!
Niki Lou says:
One other thing…………I am personally more inclined to read post’s that appear to be from people who can actually spell and use proper grammar and punctuation. This is a message board, not a text message! You know who you are.
Jenn D. says:
Jess looks like a real southern woman should! Being an Oklahoma girl, curviness is what country boys like and country girls take pride in being.
diane says:
Was At the concert..she cant sing and she looked like a trollop..end of story..Carries changing of outfits was just fun..Reba does it all of the time….And her outfit in before he cheats was nothing like this…Just my opinion..
countryiscool says:
Curviness, now there’s a new definition. I thought that was for the whole body, not squeezed in, falling out, balloon inflated boobs. Makes me kinda glad and proud to be a northern girl. I prefer intellect in my men too, not just beefcake.
Ham says:
How on earth is that outfit any different than some of the stuff Kellie Pickler has worn? This blog is a tempest in a teacup.
Joao Santos says:
i love jessica
i love country music
Michael says:
I love her and her music. Keep it up, she is very talented and an extremely sexy woman. I love to watch her entertain. A strong and confident woman.
MM says:
I like all of her.
She also can sing
April says:
The boobs are Jessica’s backup plan. She gets no attention for her singing. Maybe Vegas would be a good place for her to take her act. She’s a horrible misfit in country music.
lisa says:
Yes, she is beautiful, but whether what god (or a doctor) gave her is big or not…we don’t need to see every inch of it. What about the young ladies in the audience? What does this tell them?
JOHN says:
Well I might as well throw in my two cents: She is a beautiful Lady, and the Dress looks nice. I dont understand what all the fuss is over. I’m sure she could have found a skimpier outfit to wear. It seems most Female artists, at one time or another, show some cleavege or more. I really dont see any problem. She is of course OF AGE!!!!!!!
jenn says:
I was at her concert & she looked gorgeous & did such a great job. Love her!! Give the girl a break…..
Emily_T says:
Jessica is a beautiful girl i never said she was not. just that she does not need to have her boobs hanging out!! Carrie is not anorexic just because she is in shape. yes she has lost weight from her idol days but just by working out. she has said many times that she loves to eat junk food but she has a trainer out on the road with her and she works out 5-6 days a week god-forbid someone is in shape and they are not anorexic. sounds to be that your the one jealous Brianna
michelle says:
I love Jessica! I now listen to the country channel. She has made me switch.
Allie says:
Have you read her lyrics or actually listened to her sing? God has blessed this woman with more than just looks which initially grab your attention. She is beyond talented and it’s honestly disgusting people put her down so much after she’s opened her heart to country music about everything she’s been through. Everyone else show’s off.. so what if she’s made “ditzy” comments in the past… She even admitted that she got a pay raise for each one she said. Who wouldn’t say stuff like that for money! She is so much smarter than any of us think. She may not need to have low cut items all the time, but she didn’t dress herself for this… wardrobe did so lets sit back, and identify with her music, and let those dressing her do their jobs while we do ours.
hill says:
I don’t like her. I don’t think she is beautiful. I don’t think the cleavage she is displaying is alluring…it is peculiar looking. I don’t think she has a nice voice.
hill says:
“so what if she’s made “ditzy” comments in the past… She even admitted that she got a pay raise for each one she said. Who wouldn’t say stuff like that for money!”
Maybe a person with a shred of self respect who has some standards and won’t do absolutely anything for money.
“…so lets sit back, and identify with her music…”
Based on her album sales, people do not identify with her music.
“She is so much smarter than any of us think…but she didn’t dress herself for this… wardrobe did”
If she is so smart, why can’t she dress herself?
Gabby says:
Im going to see Rascal Flatts in Feburary. Not looking forward to seeing Jessica Simpson…now im REALLY not looking forward to seeing Jessica Simpson! I hope she doesnt wear that. I will sit through anything for Rascal Flatts though. LOVE THEM!!
BubbaG says:
Dang, when’s her next showing, opps I mean concert. I want to see her other outfits! Looking good as usual. She’s not a bad singer either, I’d rather see Jessica Simpson than Cher or Brittney Spears up there.
countryiscool says:
Cherry, when I saw Pickler in concert this summer, she had a nice sweater & comfy jeans on- she looked GREAT! I know she has worn some glam dresses for special occasions that showed her off too, but more often than not, she dresses pretty casual. I would rather SHE had dressed more discreetly too, but then, I love Kellie’s humor, personality, and VOICE as well, can’t say the same for Jessica.
bulldog1 says:
I like everything about Jessica including her singing. She is the best.
amy says:
Jess is a good girl. She is funny & alot smarter than anyone gives her credit for. Jess is just adorable. I like her alot. I will be seeing her in concert tomorrow. Can’t wait.
BURTON DUKE says:
Well i think there is some definite cleavage showing !!!
Just a lil bit .. There is more pressure building up there than a texas oil well .
maybe i should stop ..
Courtney says:
No self-respect. Period.
Amanda says:
I went to see her last night in NC. I she wore something like that too, However she was a little more in it. I am not a big fan of her, but she did a okay job.
Hum…. says:
P.S. to my above comment…Rascal Flatts were wonderful!!! Just a tad bit confused by the stage set up! I was in the fan club section and had to keep turning around in circles to take pictures.
TxAgg says:
I’m just grateful Kenny Chesney didn’t pick her to tour with him. Not sure what RF was thinkin’.
countryiscool says:
I believe every headlining act should look for/use accompanying acts that can actually sing, and have stage presence- not rely on SIMPLE eye-candy. People pay good $$ to see a WHOLE show, and I would be disgusted to HAVE to pay for an act I had NO desire to see. I’d rather pay more to see the headliner for longer with no other act.
I sure hope Kellie comes back our way. She was fun, funny, very interactive with the audience, sounded just as great LIVE as she does on CD, and very sweet. She looked/acted very comfortable and at ease on stage, and dressed simply in jeans and sweater.
Taylor says:
Yaw, say that its not good for little kids to see cleavage, but then you have Rascal Flatts on stage cusing, and nothing gets said. I was at the concert so I heard it!
cindy says:
Her body maybe God given but it’s never meant to charm in that way. The good Lord would want his children to dress
modestly as well also.
cindy says:
and that’s 1 Timothy 2:9
emma says:
My husband’s comment to the picture was,’Well at least with Dolly Parton’s figure you knew that girl could do everything and cook biscuits.’ He is not so sure about Jessica. Personally i feel that outfit crosses the line.
Kim White says:
Looks pretty much like what she had on last night in Winston-Salem, NC. Just not a good look for country music. I’m sure a lot of the guys are enjoying seeing all that.
countryiscool says:
Greatdivide, you have to watch GAC if you actually want to see music videos and shows other than repeats and stupid redneck shows. btw, Shania could NEVER look cheap. I’m a straight chick, but I would choose Shania or any other chick over Jessica were I of that pursuasion. Mainly because everyone else has something going for them other than boobs.
countryiscool says:
You’re in good company David, I, along with many others have been deleted. I think it has more to do with censorship than
anything. They want us all to be positive sheeple on here.
Michael says:
Well, I guess Jessica is just trying to use her only asset(s) since her career is going nowhere. lol She is a pretty girl, but this makes her look like white trash.
Brian says:
I’d sure hit it!!
Sandy says:
I’ll have to go with d. other, make that dd. other. I thought she liked football but someone call the NBA because that looks like a couple of basketballs dying to be dribbled.
Greatdivide08 -Jessica is 10 times hotter than Dolly, Kellie, and Lee Ann? LOL Kellie won Country Weekly most beautiful women of 2008. Poor Jessica came in last place with less than 1% of the votes. LOL Many women are hotter Carrie, Kellie, Taylor, LeAnn, Lee Ann, Martina, Miranda, heck ALL the women are hotter! When they wear something sexy it looks HOT, not cheap with waaaaaaaaaaaay too much cleavage showing.
KA says:
So you are a chubby chaser, Brian. I’m sure “it” would allow your “hit” as long as you promised to further “its” career in some way. Could you provide another straight to dvd movie, another endorsement deal, or another reality show?
Tammy H says:
I think she is “AWESOME”…and blessed with beauty and talent…and she dresses like this “because she can!!!” and anyone that says different is jealous or flat chested!!!
Sandy says:
BWH:
Will it plain to see that the like Jessica, dislike Jessica is about a 50 - 50 split.
Really I didn’t realize it was that high for Jessica.
Leave Jessica alone….her country album is more country than thing that Shania has released, yet the county fan base adopted Shania. Dolly and Shania have place their breast out there. Leave Jessica alone…Let her sing…
LOL you have got to be kidding with this. Jessica has nowhere near the country, voice, album, or beauty of Shania. The only thing they have in common is Jessica’s song has the same name as Shania’s album that sold a zillion times more. The county fan base adopted Shania because she’s the best.
countryiscool says:
No jealousy here, I wouldn’t want to be carrying those basketballs around, couldn’t without choking & gagging.
I’ll take brains over brawn anyday, guy OR gal. I’m with
Sandy. All the other “country” women are way hotter!
Brian says:
Ummm Yeah… I’d still hit it!!!
countryiscool says:
Yeah Brian, go for it, I’m sure she’d drop Romo for you. lol
gypsygirl says:
And FWIW other posters, she can’t help what her nose (or her boobs) look like - that’s what God gave her, but she CAN downplay them a bit.
gypsygirl says:
Verrrrrrrry interesting that the message board is GONE from her page here on CMT.
I hope Jessica and/or her daddy sees some of these comments and takes stock in public opinion, as it were.
amy says:
Love Jessica!! Listen to her cd everyday. She is the prettiest girl in country or pop music! Interesting to see all the jealousy going on here. She is the sweetest thing & I don’t get the negative comments. JEALOUSY!!
alexis says:
Why should she hide what god gave her. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s not like she posing for Playboy. She is a sexy girl.
MGR says:
I think there have been many country women past and present using their assests - Dolly Parton and Kelly Pickler (both have implants and work them!) Shania Twain looks like she has had at least a lift in recent years and always bared her midriff. No one has complained about them so I say “Go Jessica”! If I had those things, I would work them. Women pay big bucks for breasts because they give women power. She is one smart woman for using what she has and I always heard she was a dumb blonde. She looks like she knows what she is doing to me and she did end up with the cowboy.
Todd says:
MGR it doesn’t matter what Dolly and others did with their assets because they are real country and always were. They have vocal and artistic power, not just big breasts. Jess is not in the same league, she was an average pop singer and never will be a country star. You either have the talent or not she she does not have the chops to sing country.
Someone said Dolly was on the Playboy cover. It was for an interview and she did not pose nude. It was in October 1978, years after she became a big country star, the QUEEN of country with many albums and #1 hits. The headline on the cover is “OOOEEE! A HIT INTERVIEW WITH COUNTRY QUEEN DOLLY PARTON.” She earned the right to do an interview with Playboy. Dolly has always been a top country artist who started country then later crossed into pop, not the other way around. Big difference.
pamela says:
What I have a hard time understanding is why people who want to be known for their singing ability go for a wardrobe that definitely takes people’s minds off of the song. I wonder who would be the stars today if all we had was radio. Imagine live on the Grand Ole Opry, no mixing, no wardrobe, no sexy stances…my gosh, we might be able to cull out true talent. Ah, for the good old days!!!
Bernie says:
I think she is putting on a show and following certain conventions…tried and true conventions.
Stop Bashing People! says:
First off I’m not a Jessica fan, nor a Jessica basher. To be totally honest I don’t think I’ve even heard a full song of hers nor watched one of her videos so therefore I can’t comment on her singing abilities or lack of them.
The one thing I can comment on is what a bunch of hateful bashers 90% of you posters are! Just because Jessica isn’t ‘YOUR’ favorite artist getting blogged doesn’t mean she is fair game to your hateful bashing remarks you lot of jackels.
You people are horrible at times on these blogs! How does it feel to get bashed? Not so nice huh?
Oh I almost forgot, the person doing the Bible quoting. I believe I read in the Bible, “remove the rafter out of your own eye so that you may see clearly how to remove the splinter out of your brothers eye.”
Last if it were Dolly in that picture 90% of these post wouldn’t even exist! Next time think before you post!
Ringlord says:
Sorry folks, but there is nothing wrong with her dress or her cleavage, she is not showing too much, she is still covered far more than she is exposed. Yes other female artists even in country music have shown as much before including Kellie Pickler, I suppose you think it is more “moral” to show that kind of cleavage at an awards show on national TV than at individual concerts? Hypocrites is what you all are. Carrie and Kellie both have been played on pop radio stations purely because they came from American Idol. I have nothing against either of them and Kellie acts just as if not more ditzy than Jessica and she plaed it up intentionally for AI when she was on the show just because it got her attention so what? If any of you haters actually ever just listened to her voice you would have to say she is talented and can sing, you just don’t like where she comes from or probably blame her for the Dallas Cowboys problems each season. She came from “Pop” music to country and people seem to think that is wrong yet are ok with artists who start as country and go the other way, seems a bit one sided to me. No wonder people who don’t like country music stereotype those who do as ignorant rednecks. “Pop” music was created as a genre by the recording industry to categorize songs and artists that did not fit the other categories of rock, country, jazz, blues, or motown, heck Taylor Swift’s label is Motown Records so should she be considered motown? Btw whoever it was that said Taylor Swift should be opening for Rascal Flats is way off, Taylor is a headliner and not an opening act, Jessica is new to country and is paying her dues so she is perfect as an opening act atm.
Greatdivide08 says:
CMT you need to list the real rules here. You can only bash Jessica Simpson for boobage and not Pickler,Twain or Dolly or your post will be removed.
And nor is right. For some strange reason Dolly,Kellie and Shania get respected for wearing the same type of things.Shania gets respected for sounding 100 times more pop than what Jessica does. Shaina gets respected for being the leader in turning country music to pop music, along with her ROCK producer ex-hubby Mutt Lange.Dolly gets respected for looking cheap and singing Wang Chung songs LOL.Kellie who really doesn’t have a good voice at all, get’s respected for her fake boobs and being dumb..It’s hard to figure you people out.You just read the tabloids and make your decision.Let others do your thinking for you like good little sheep.
And great post Ringlord.Too bad it will be gone by tomorrow morning.
Greatdivide08 says:
I was one of the first to comment on this blog. There would probably be over 200 posts on here by now, most by people sticking up for Simpson. Why do those keep dissapearing?
m16manda says:
i clicked on the picture because she’s hot. quite frankly i don’t think anything other than that. i don’t care about what she’s thinking when she puts on her clothes. there are more important things in the world. what i do think about is how critical and shallow most people are. maybe you should get an opinion about things that matter and get behind a cause besides fashion.
jm says:
A lot of the comments have disappeared, but it is mostly the negative ones that are gone. It would look a lot worse for Simpson if CMT had allowed all the negative comments to stay.
jeanie says:
I put in this comment earlier, but somehow it isn’t there anymore. It’s obvious that Jessica’s getting the attention she wanted probably just by all of us writing in.
We do have an interest in her or why wouldn’t we just ignore any publicity regarding her? I think when she
first started coming out with CDs she had class and modesty. But it all started with her letting everyone in
on her first year as a newlywed. I could see that marriage ending before it even had a chance. Was she trying to teach us all something? And why does the public
go for that? If we don’t watch, she doesn’t make money and thus the end of her story…at least in the public eye.
I think she has some talent….but she has stripped herself of all innocence, modesty, and class. She doesn’t even come close to comparing to Carrie Underwood who I shouldn’t even be mentioning under the same breath as
Jessica. Carrie is a role model. I think Jessica started out wanting to be that, but her desire for fame
and fortune overrode any common sense.
Jessica and Brittney Spears are two of a kind. I hope
they can both straighten out their lives. Getting away
from the limelight and living a normal life would be a good
start.
I’m not happy with Rascal Flatts having her on their road show. It put them down a notch for me. Anything for a
buck. It seems that all that matters is the green stuff.
Forget about decency and morality.
But it does matter. In the end of our lives it does matter. And what we do inbetween our birth and our death
matters. Ask the pilot whose preparation saved 155 lives
just recently with his expert emergency landing on water.
Every minute we breathe matters.
Let’s all quit wasting our days on foolishness.
jeanie says:
To Jim, that explains why my previous comments were
eliminated. I wondered what had happened. My second
post is longer, so it will probably be eliminated too.
K says:
“Yaw, say that its not good for little kids to see cleavage, but then you have Rascal Flatts on stage cusing, and nothing gets said. I was at the concert so I heard it!”
I’m sure these kids have heard much worse from their own parents! Or siblings, or peers, or even strangers. These guys say nothing worse than something most kids hear on a daily baisis anyway. Besides, a lot of the things that are said onstage are for entertainment value- nothing more.
Considering the “Bob That Head” tour played to over one million people last year, they must be doing something right! Besides, not all children or teens attend RF concerts, there are people of all ages. And I know, I’ve been to a few. Sometimes you can’t “censor” your language to please a child and his parents- it just doesn’t work that way.
CJ says:
She goes way to far. Country singers through the past 50 years did not have to use sex to sell there cd’s. Even Dolly who is well indowed does not flant her brests. She is always covered very well. When I saw Jessica on the opery she had on a dress that made her look like a hooker. She was on with Loretta and Schwanda and they sure were not dressed like that. She is not a good representive of country music. All she has going for her is blond hair and she is pretty. Not enough
K says:
And, I respect RF for at least giving Jessica a chance. They have given tons of new artists (even a lot who have never been on tour) a huge chance for major exposure.
They give a lot of new artists exposure before their careers have had a chance to do anything, which is pretty gutsy, if you ask me. You know they don’t have Jessica with them to gain more fans- but they gave her a chance anyway. No one knew who Taylor Swift was before she opened for them- they gave her a chance without knowing she’d grow so huge.
But I do hope that they realize many of their fans are not happy Jessica is opening for them.
K says:
I don’t understand why so many people are saying they’ve “lost respect” for RF because JS is opening for them. How ridculous. If you’re going to lose respect for them do it for a liget reason- like you don’t like their music! Not, “your opening act is a trashy pop artist, so we don’t like you”
I respect RF for taking a chance on Jessica.
sugarlandfan says:
eeeeeeeeeeeek. That’s not country. …and yes Dolly did the same but at least she can sing… pretty sure what you guys heard was the CD playing… neither her or her sister can sing… and i think that was proven on SNL….
And I think she looks like a drag queen personally..
JS = trash.
countryiscool says:
Personally, I’ve only seen 3 people really get bashed on these threads- all for different reasons; Jessica, Carrie
& Taylor. They seem to get the most posts, while we (me included) put all the other artists on the back burner. I hope some NEW blogs come up soon, something actually about MUSIC.
kayko says:
This blog and the responses have IMO brought CMT to a new low. Talk about double standards and petty remarks, you can find them all right here.
April says:
Since the blogger deleted my comment I won’t bother to read his blog anymore. Now delete this one cause I know you will.
solongsowrong says:
That’s a nice thought countryiscool… about having blogs that are actually about music. The primary objectives of pop music, no matter what the genre, are audience enjoyment and commercial success. The music itself always takes a backseat, as long as the other elements are intact. A large part of the Mainstream audience talk about what they know… and that’s fashion, gossip, personal issues, and who is or isn’t their favorites. That’s why it’s part of the Pop culture. Country Pop is just as much a part of that as any other genre.
This blog did exactly what it was intended to do, and proves that the music itself isn’t the main selling point.

Gee I kinda think Jennifer Nettles sounds like a cat with it’s tail on fire. That horrible wAhaAHHaaahHAAAAAhhaa twang she has hurts my ears and most of Surgarlands songs are far less country sounding than the songs that are on Jessica Simpsons country cd!!! As far as Dolly goes, most of her songs are re-created covers of former POP/ROCK hits that she destroys. The woman hasn’t been country since the 70’s!!
countryiscool says:
I love Jennifer AND Dolly.

since when it showing off the “girls” a sign of lack of talent? As many have pointed out Dolly Parton has had her funbags on display for the better part of 30 years. I dare anyone to say she’s not talented. Its a concert outfit, not her everyday clothing.
IlikewhatIlike says:
Showing off the “girls” is a sign of lack of talent, when that is all you can get noticed for. She may have gained a few new fans, but not by anyone who cares a thing about her singing.
bkb says:
nothing was said about twain showing off her breasts so why condem simpson for doing the same thing. i do think twain has a little more talent than simpson. there are many country singers that have put their tops out there so don’t focus on just one.
maryanna says:
well, when she comes to memphis on march.5th,the outfit better be appropriate!!!
Justin says:
Like many others have said, this is a huge double-standard. It’s okay for Shania to dress like she has, for Faith Hill to roll around in a bed and turn it into a video, and for Reba to wear her red dress at an awards show, etc, etc, but it’s not cool for Jessica Simpson to do it. And the argument can’t be because Jessica’s “not country,” because Shania and Faith haven’t been “country” for a very long time.
She can show them or try to hide them, and it’s okay with me. I’m more concerned with her music and whether she can find good songs.
Here’sYourSign says:
Showing off the “girls” is not a sign of lack of talent. The sign that Jessica Simpson lacks talent is the sounds she makes when she opens her mouth to “sing”.
Justin says:
Maryanna: Or here’s another idea. If you know Jessica Simpson will wear outfits like this, and if that upsets you, you can always choose to not go to a Jessica Simpson concert.
countryiscool says:
With me, it’s not a matter of a double standard Jessica vs the others. To me, the others- Dolly, Shania, Kellie, etc, can actually SING and are known for their music FIRST, not what they wear. Most of these other women also do the glam look for “special” occasions/award shows, NOT in concert and everyday attire. Dolly’s are going to show regardless but she still dresses nice, and she doesn’t always have them spilling out of a too-small shirt. The whole thing for Jessica is using her assets to make up for LACK of talent otherwise.
gypsygirl says:
First of all, no one is going to a Jessica Simpson concert. They’re going to see Rascal Flatts and she’s opening.
Secondly, the focus here is on Jessica because CMT has her photo splattered on the front page. THEY chose which photo to run.
Thirdly, is Miss Simpson wishes to be taken seriously for her singing ability, she should maybe go back to dressing more conservatively, get some voice lessons and try again. She certainly isn’t awful, but she’s getting noticed for the wrong reasons (IMNSHO). Sex sells, true, but it’s a shame she’s fallen prey to that line of thinking.
Marybeth says:
Jessica Simpson sucks. She should go back to where she comes from and dont come back ever again. She could not make it in the pop music. So she thought she would make it in country music. But she failed.
Pink says:
As a BREST CANCER survivor. I would just like to say that all of this is junk. However I do not hate J.S. because she is well endowed, it is all so shallow. I think the main point is if you want to be know for your singing ablity then let that be what people see and remember. If you want to look nice and pretty that is fine. If you want to do porn then do that at a different time and place. I totally love Taylor Swift, she dresses nice and looks real pretty, she has more talent in the first diget of her pinky that J.S. has ever or ever will have. Also Carrie Underwood is very talented and beautiful while keeping it real so to speak. As far as the other ladies mentioned by some, they are know for there singing first. Maybe sometimes they may show a little much, but that is not why we remember them.
NoDoubleStandard says:
The argument is that the fans who object to it, are willing to excuse “Shania to dress like she has, for Faith Hill to roll around in a bed and turn it into a video, and for Reba to wear her red dress at an awards show, etc, etc,” to get to hear them sing.
With Jessica Simpson, there is no redeeming quality. There’s only an objectionable voice behind the objectionable dress.
It’s not a double standard. If as many people liked Jessica Simpson’s voice as liked the voices of these other artists, her clothing choices would be excused too. If she wants people to stop commenting on her clothes, she should get a better voice.
Ken says:
If I remember right Faith Hill got a ton of flack over that video of her laying in the bed and I am not a fan of Faith’s. To me there is no double standard when someone (artist) appears for shows showing that much breast. I being a guy go to concerts to hear people sing and not watch a girl lose all self respect for herself. There are other venues to watch that.
dallas says:
SHE SHOULDN’T OPEN FOR THE BEST BAND IN COUNTRY MUSIC
Taylor says:
Like ive said before 90% of yall have never heard her live so yall dont know whether she can sing or not! If shania, taylor, carrie, and many others were so country they wouldnt be played on pop radio!
And for those of you who still continue to say her breasts are fake, you need to do your research! Look back at old teenage pictures, watch her driven, or E hollywood story. They were just as big back then.
Countrylord says:
Ringlord: I don’t know where you get your information but most of it is way off.
I can’t believe anyone would compare Jessica to the best new country artists like Carrie, Kellie, and Taylor and it’s not a good comparison. Compare her to Jewel, Darius, and the other artists coming over from pop.
Kellie has never shown this much before and she couldn’t because she doesn’t have “too much” to show. She always looks great. When she was touring with Rascal Flatts she wore a slightly similar black outfit once and it didn’t show anywhere near as much cleavage as Jessica is showing in this photo. Kellie never debuted DDs on the Opry stage and she always dresses well. I won’t say there’s anything wrong with it but IMO Jessica needs to rein her huge DD girls in some and don’t wear tops that squish them up and together so much.
“Carrie and Kellie both have been played on pop radio stations purely because they came from American Idol.”
Wrong. Have you even looked at the pop chart? Kellie’s songs have never been played on anything but country radio. Her best pop crossover songs deserve to be and should be played on pop radio like Carrie and Taylor but since her label has not released them to pop stations they can’t play them because they can only play songs released to them. Carrie and Taylor are the only country gals played on pop radio and it has nothing to do with American Idol. It’s because of the type of diverse country/pop/rock singers they are, crossover talent and songs they recorded, and the fact that their labels released some songs to pop radio. Taylor was never on Idol and she’s the most played country artist on pop radio since her label releases many of her songs to pop. Shania was a huge country/pop crossover artist and she was never on American Idol. Radio does not play songs “just because” of anything. Songs have to get released and sent to stations and accepted by listeners or they won’t get played. Carrie, Kellie, and Taylor are the only great current country/pop/rock crossover artists with enough talent to make crossover work, and they are the only current country singers with great pop/rock crossover songs. Kellie and Taylor even wrote and sang a song together and it fits and should be released to country and pop radio, so hopefully her label will do this. Kellie and Carrie are much better country AND pop/rock singers than Jessica and everything they sing is better. Jessica is older and has been a pro singer for many years yet Kellie sang better when she was just getting started on Idol with much less experience and she has improved since then.
Kellie has a great outgoing personality, she’s smart and funny and she was just being her natural funny self on Idol. She was funny so people laughed at her jokes. I never found any silly thing Jessica did on TV to be funny and she bored me so much that I couldn’t watch Newlyweds. After Idol Kellie is still funny on radio and TV interviews, at concerts and around friends so she did not “played it up intentionally for AI when she was on the show just because it got her attention.” She was being herself and she simply has the best, most outgoing and funniest personality of anyone ever on Idol. DJs say they love Kellie and she’s their favorite. Jay Leno asked her to do some correspondent work and she co-hosted The View (filled in for Barbara Walters), Dick Clark’s new year’s eve show, and the biggest national country radio shows.
Kellie is one of the two best country singers and one of the few best pop/rock singers ever on Idol and that’s why she got a record deal, made best selling albums with many positive reviews, and performed concerts with many positive reviews for her live singing. She was nominated for ACM and CMA best new artist, won three CMT country music awards including performance of the year, and won two songwriter awards. She deserves and could get a top female vocalist nomination. She’s one of the best selling new country artists of the past few years because she made great albums. Her first single Red High Heels charted higher than Jessica’s and it wasn’t even the best song on the album. You can’t say Jessica’s singles don’t get enough promotion because Come on Over was the most-added song to country radio one week with a record debut at #41 and passing other singles for awhile, probably because Sony gave it more promotion and because of her big name.
I am far from a “hater” and I just tell the truth and my honest opinion. Yes Jessica is talented and can sing. If she were a good country singer and made a good album I would say it. Did you buy her album or go to a concert? Where is your review? I have listened to her voice and never liked it as much as the good pop or country singers. I don’t like her tone, style or songs. I can’t think of one country singer she sings better than. I used to listen to pop radio and didn’t like her music then either. Christina is a much better singer and has won many awards including Best New Artist, Female Artist of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
I’m not a Dallas Cowboys fan so I don’t blame her for anything there and I’d be glad if she helped them lose.
Where she came from has nothing to do with why I don’t like her music. She’s an ok pop singer who came to country and she didn’t make a good album so that’s why. If she were a good country singer I’d change my mind. When she was in pop with Britney and many average singers she was never nominated for any major awards. The best country artists were at least nominated for best new artist or other major awards. Jessica has not earned a country award nomination and at this rate I don’t see it happening. All of her awards are for TV and movies and she does not have one single award for singing or best artist. She has won a people’s choice, a few teen choice and Razzie awards: Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Screen Couple (Simpson and her Daisy Dukes), Most Tiresome Tabloid Targets (Shared with Ashlee Simpson and Nick Lachey), and Worst Actress. Jessica is mostly a reality show and pop music star and tabloid queen. We get that she’s new to country but she’s not one of the best new artists and she has a long way to go to get there. Ask any credible country music critic or reviewer and I think you will get about the same opinion. I haven’t seen Jessica on any best new artist or best new album lists like Miranda, Kellie, Carrie, Taylor, Ashton, and others were on when they were new.
Taylor Swift’s label is not Motown Records it’s Big Machine. She has opened many shows for Rascal Flatts and recently wrapped up a tour with them last November. She is starting her first headliner tour soon.
Taylor says:
And BTW Jessica sounded way better than RF! And to say Taylor Swift has a lot of talent is funny. I feel sorry for her when I see her on awards shows.
Taylor says:
countrylord-if your refering to me. Yes i bought her album and it was very good. And yes I was at this concert and like I said she sounded good and better than Rascal Flatts. People want to say she isnt country but have not listened to her album or seen her live. You cant see a picture that shows some cleavage and assume all this stuff.
Countrylord says:
Taylor my reply is to “Ringlord” 35 posts above mine. I listened to Jessica’s album when it came out. I have heard and watched her on the Opry and other live radio and video performances with good sound. Before she went country I heard her older songs many times.
Taylor says:
o ok, she sounds way better in person than she does on tv
Salla says:
JS is simply not talented enough. Her lack of sales will prove this to be true. She nneds to take her fake self and gigantic bosoms back to Hollywood and enjoy all of the money she has made, and leave the rest of us alone. The Simpsons have shoved her so far down our throats that there is a backlash rising against her and her sister (and I think it will extend to Fall Out Bay and Romo). Please just go away from the spotlight and enjoy life.
Countrylord says:
Greatdivide08 I respect Kellie, Shania, and Dolly for everything they do and mostly for their great singing and music. Kellie has a great voice, one of the best and most real country voices in country music. That’s why she can sing country classics at the Opry and fans love it. I don’t read tabloids I listen to music.
K says:
Taylor: Jessica is opening for RF, she is not opening for them. They played to over one million people last year, so I doubt the majority of those fans were for Jessica. RF sounds awesome in concert, and JS will always be an average POP singer. She’s not great, but not horrible. RF has worked very hard to get where they are, and they earned all of their fans. They played in clubs and bars for tips just like any other country singers. They moved to Nashvile to try to get noticed as country. They worked in other bands as well.
They tour almost non-stop every year to support each album, and they come out with a new one about every year-and-a-half. In between that, they are either at award shows performing, making and/or supporting an album, doing promotional stops, and more. They worked for years to get into country music, unlike Jessica. They EARNED all thier fans by touring non-stop and supporting albums. Jessica has done NOTHING to earn her spot in country music like RF has.
Kaylin says:
I was at the concert last night. I was there for Rascal Flatts and I was not going to go to her set, but my friend wanted to, so we went. I have to say it must have been since I expected the worse, but Jessica did an okay job. She has a horrible habit of touching her hair and her ear piece and it gets very distracting, but her voice is there. Shes got it. I was also warned that she likes to blabber on about her boyfriend and other stupid things, but surprisingly she did not talk that much. It was a pleasant set. Her outfit was black, much like the photo, but her boobs were not as out there.
In my opinion, Jessica has a better voice than Taylor Swift, Julianne Hough, and Kellie Pickler.
Jen says:
Well, my other post got deleted for who knows why, but I’d like to say something. I’m by no means “bashing” Jessica. When she came into country I listened to her with an open mind. Personally, she just doesn’t do it for me. There are other country singers I feel the same way about (we all have different tastes). She’s just not country and it shows in her appearance as well. She is not what country is about. I personally think that’s whats really “annoying” people. True country fans no what it’s about (what it stands for) and it’s not her. I think the only reason she even sings “country” music is because she was no longer wanted anywhere else. Kind of a last ditch effort to save her stardom. As for the people saying that people are jealous of her. That is sooooo far fetch. There’s nothing to be jealous of. We are who we are and have our own special qualities, talents, etc. We are just stating are opinions.
countryiscool says:
Save the boobs for the red carpet, and dress down everywhere else, people might take you more seriously, although not likely Jessica because she doesn’t have the vocals, stage presence, personality to pull off a valid performance. The other female artists seem to be far more comfortable, with themselves, the fans, their mngmnt and their talent to have to resort dressing like a tart. In this case, more is NOT better, just a flimsy distraction, and show of insecurity.
Countrylord says:
Greatdivide08 says:
Gee I kinda think Jennifer Nettles sounds like a cat with it’s tail on fire. That horrible wAhaAHHaaahHAAAAAhhaa twang she has hurts my ears and most of Surgarlands songs are far less country sounding than the songs that are on Jessica Simpsons country cd!!! As far as Dolly goes, most of her songs are re-created covers of former POP/ROCK hits that she destroys. The woman hasn’t been country since the 70’s!!
Where I come from that twang is called real country and no way do Sugarland’s songs sound less country than Jessica’s. Sugarland’s albums are much better and they have won ACM and CMA top country vocalist awards. Dolly is very country and has done it all.
Taylor says:
I wasnt saying that everyone there was there to see her, and I know they wernt. But she sounded just as good if not better than Rascal Flatts. If you read this whole thing mostly everyone who has been to one of the concerts said she sounded good.
Jen says:
Okay now. Lets not say anything about Taylor. She may not have the best voice (many of people have commented on that), but she’ll get better over time. Taylor is a true country star though. Her music his coming from her. She’s writing it, playing it and singing it. Jessica ain’t doin’ all that.
Taylor says:
Umm… Jessica co wrote I think 9 of the songs on the album and has been writing her own songs since In This Skin. She wrote With You which went to number 1.
Kaylin says:
Taylor, im guessing you are a Jessica fan? I have to say, she is better than I expected. I wasnt aware she also wrote her own songs. She is not ready to headline her own tour, she still has work to do and she needs to stop touching her extensions, but I was surprised that she did not suck.
Ken says:
I checked billboard. With You only went to #14
Taylor says:
Yea im a fan and i dont think shes perfect and i too was annoyed with her touching her hair and stuff. And I agree she is not ready to headline a country concert though she has headlined several pop tours. I just wish people would give her a chance instead of automatically not liking her because she made a few ditzy comments but kellie pickler is the dumbest thing ive ever seen, or because she has big boobs and shows them off ocasionaly. I just dont think thats a good enough reason to not like someone
Taylor says:
yea on the hot 100 but not other charts
Ken says:
What other charts are there? Billboard list most charts.
Taylor says:
All I know is she said it went to number 1, it could be radio or something, i dunno
Ken says:
Jessica has only had two #1’s They are a public affair on the hot dance airplay and These boots are made for walkin on hot digital songs
Toni says:
I am a Jessica fan & I have liked her for a long time. This girl can sing very well & is extremely likable. She is so darn pretty that alot of people are obsessed & jealous of her. Know one will change my mine. I am a fan for life!!
amy says:
Jessica is thoughtful sweet & beautiful. She already has everything in her life to be happy. A great family! I hope she never changes…..
Ken says:
Wow extremely likable???? I guess all of us on here that don’t like her missed that memo. Sorry didn’t change our minds either.
bluefish@thesea says:
I am not crazy with this woman. I don’t know why!
yeahright says:
So Jessica has never gotten an Academy Award or a Grammy because the people handing those out are just jealous of her? And her movies flop and albums don’t sell because people are just so jealous of her “beauty” and “talent” they won’t buy them just to spite her?
Angelina Jolie must be so successful because she is so “ugly” and “untalented” that there’s no way movie goers could let jealousy stop them from buying a ticket.
Michael says:
Countrylord— the only reason Taylor Swift gets played on pop radio is because she remixed all her songs to pop radio to sell out. She is not country and never has been, so I say go to pop radio and stay there. No loss to me…especially since she cannot sing her way out of a paper bag.
Jessica is trying to get attention for the wrong reasons, dressing like trash. Dolly never dressed like that.. she is always respectful.
Jessica has a better voice then Taylor swift though, so I give her that. She is nothing special vocally, but at least she is somewhat on key and has some power.. unlike the Terrible Taylor. She sounds like a dying cat, she is so offkey and weak. What people see in Taylor, I will never understand.
I say, let Jessica and Taylor go on tour together, and be done with it. lol
Rachael says:
Yeahright- I agree with most of the things you said, but I disagree with your comments about Taylor. Her songs are bubblegum pop, and she borrowed alot of her ideas from stuff other people already wrote. Her lyrics are clique and juvenile…but it is her singing that really is horrendous.
anyway, neither Jessica nor Taylor are country, so they should just go back to pop. Taylor’s songs are so re-mixed that you cannot even recognize an ounce of country in them. Even in the original versions, they are not country.
Morgan says:
Jen- how can you call Taylor a “true country star” when she is from Pennsylvania, and remixes all of her songs to pop club mixes? She is about as country as Snoop Dogg.
gypsygirl says:
“But what are your thoughts about her fashion choice?”
This is, after all, the question posed in the blurb above. She has been in the biz long enough to know what gets people talking. Jessica was also quoted as saying (early on) that she was told as a young teen that she was “too sexy” for Christian music and that’s why she crossed over to pop. Papa Joe said (paraphrasing) that she can’t help it if she’s sexy. That, in and of itself is just CREEPY and I have had enough of Jessica’s so-called sexiness crammed down my throat. I didn’t go to see a burlesque show in Kansas City, I went to see RF and sat through Jessica to get them. I could not focus on what she was singing because of her wardrobe, her constant messing with the lower section of her hair on one side and the yelling and facial contortions. There was one song that she said she wrote about domestic abuse - if I could have understood her I think it would have been a poignant song, maybe even a hit, but all she did was screech. I’m just saying that whomever is “guiding” her needs to rethink their game plan in order for her to succeed.
I also thought it was funny that when RF came out, Jay was talking about God giving her extra “pretty” but said NOTHING about her vocal stylings. I’m not sure they had anything to do with her touring with them, but someone who knows how these things work may chime in.
As far as the reference to RF “cussing,” all I heard was something about “Next year it’ll be your a$$ sitting at home.” I find that way less offensive than Jessica falling out of her dress and flashing her granny panties every time she turned around to go fetch her water bottle.
gypsygirl says:
ETA: All this to say that I don;t think Jessica isn’t a nice person who possesses marginal talent. I just think she is terribly misguided and has no business on RF’s tour (or anyone else who has achieved the kind of success that they have).
Jen says:
Maybe saying Taylor is a true country star was the wrong choice of words, but she is a great ARTIST. So what if her songs are remixed to pop. A-She’s not the only country singer who has songs playing on pop stations B-The pop remixes aren’t the ones playing on my country stations. At least she started country, not pop, rap or anything else. And besides, not every country singer is from the South. If thats what makes them a country singer then we have some problems.
CountryCutie says:
I think of country as (a song that is DOWN TO EARTH and comes from the HEART), which in my opinion Taylor Swift does a good job of. Jessica really has a good voice and she didn’t need to show all of her “goods” for everyone to like her….It’s really not that big of a deal, i mean i’ve seen other country stars dress revealing, but jess just makes it look good…. Though it is kind of discouraging for young girls to see a woman that isn’t natural….
Ashley says:
Jen- I disagree with your comment that Taylor swift will not get better in time. If you have a terrible voice, you have that voice for life.
Leanne Rimes was singing circles around Taylor at age 14. She performed Blue at age 14 and it is so much better then Taylor in her wildest dreams at age 19.
By age 19, your voice is your voice. You will not get better because if you are pitchy and weak, you will always be pitchy and weak. You don’t suddenly wake up one day with a good singing voice in your 20’s. Your voice no longer changes once you are in your late teens.
Carrie and Leanne Rimes both put out demos at age 14 that blow Taylor out of the water. So no, Taylor will not improve her singing voice. She will always be terrible.
Melissa says:
Countrycutie: I agree with you that country comes from within your heart, more then where you are from. That is why Jessica Simpson is not country despite coming from Texas. She and her jimmy choo shoes are a better fit for NYC or LA.
But Taylor is not country in her heart either. If she were, she would stop selling out to pop radio with all her pop remixing, and MTV visits. She seems intent to be a pop star, rather then country. If she cared about country music in her heart, she would never sell out to pop just to sell more albums. She comes off fake and manipulative, and would remix her own mother if it helped her career. She does not come off as a sweet, country girl in my book.
Carrie and Kellie at least seem genuine. Carrie refuses to remix her songs to pop radio, and has lost some sales for that reason. Her song Before he Cheats crossed to pop on its own in the original country format, because she refused to remix it. She has not been on pop radio since then. Taylor by contrast remixes all her songs to pop radio and is remixing her entire album to pop for an international release. She clearly does not care about country music. What she cares about, is promoting Taylor Swift.
Jessica will go running back to pop music in a year after she is done with her Gone Country phase, and she will say she is back to her pop roots. Mark my words. lol
countryiscool says:
I think it’s MORE discouraging for young girls to see a woman that is intentionally spilling out of her shirt &
seen as okay. How do we teach our young girls modesty by “flaunting?” Sexy is more than the size of your bra cup
and showing your assets. Mixed media sure doesn’t help either. One headline is talking cakes and desserts, the
next has some anorexic chick on there, another speaks of
the latest fad diet, then you have Cosmo and pin-up mags that tell young girls how to make boys lust after you, etc.
I’m not saying chicks should be in black from head to toe and neck to wrist, but use some common sense and respect.
DeLana says:
Sex sells…that’s what she’s thinking. Even though to us women it is very tasteful..to the men it is exactly what they want to see. Personally, I think she needs to cover herself up!!
Leesa says:
So, some of you think Jessica is showing too much cleavage? WHAT CLEAVAGE? Cleavage is the area BETWEEN a woman’s breasts. What area? Her breasts are so pushed up and squashed together there is no area.
There is nothing wrong in showing cleavage but at least show a little class in doing so. What she is wearing isn’t even attractive.
LaDonna says:
Well said, Leesa.
countryiscool says:
I just saw Jamie O’Neal’s(sp?)new video and SHE was just perfect. Like Leesa said, she had a jacket over blouse, cleavage with a curved hint of the “girls,” & that’s it.
She looked very classy and beautiful. Jessica could take a lesson from her.
Ashley says:
I personally think that she is trying too hard. She is not a po singer anymore… this is country music and her dressing like that just doesn’t go too well.
Pink says:
I can’t believe this is still going on an on. Why has no one responded to my coments I made hours ago. Who ever keeps talking about Sugarland must not know what real music sounds like, if you don’t like it don’t listen to it. J.N. is a wounderful singer as well as Christian. They have great energy. This blog is not about Sugarland it is about J.S. and her showing to much while on tour with R.F. It is not so long ago that J.S. was having major personal problems, and I still stand behind what I said befor. But give it a rest she does need some positive feed back, at least she is trying to be productive.

Karen says:
Jennifer and Kellie win awards and sing on awards shows because they can sing. Where was Jessica during the CMAs… sitting at home with Romo? Oh I remember she snubbed the CMAs and didn’t even show up for the red carpet for photos and interviews. I guess she thinks her boobs do all the talking. Real country artists would not miss their first CMAs for the world.
Sarah says:
I believe Jessica got a boob job years ago then Ashlee got one
countryiscool says:
I half way EXPECT to see more glam (boob) shots at award shows, but NOT at concerts, or other inappropriate settings. C’mon, I don’t care if they’re real OR fake, I just don’t want to see ‘em hanging out, bunched up to the neck, in a shirt 2 sizes 2 small. I also like Jennifer & Rascal Flatts. About the ONLY thing I agree with your post is CMT’s lack of videos so I watch GAC-they cover MUSIC/ARTISTS, not repeats of stupid redneck shows and the other crap they have on there. But then, what do you expect from MTV, I mean CMT.
Ringlord says:
Countrylord check your facts please, go to Universal Records web site and look at the family of labels and check for country artists under Motown Records and you will find Taylor Swift. Ok the CD may say Big Machine on it, but they are part of Motown Records which is part of Universal.
As soon as one of these so called critics writes, sings or even is involved in producing a few hit songs I might listen to what drivel comes out of their mouths or off their pens. They are scum worse than lawyers as far as I am concerned, they get paid to give their opinion and are only listened to by people who can’t form their own opinions.
I don’t think Shania herself even considers her own music to be country that is just where here label and management stuck her. As to Kellie being played on pop stations I can tell you since I live very close to New York City where there are NO country radio stations that I have heard her songs played on the one local pop station I do listen to WPLJ. I never said there was anything wrong with Kellie Pickler,I voted for her on AI, loved all of her interviews and think she is a wonderful person, but she was just as guilty of purposely playing up the dumb blond angle in the segments she did during the finale of AI that season. She knew what she was doing and everyone had fun with it and loved it.
No I have not purchased Jessica’s country album, but I have heard it and I think it is good and I would buy it if I had any money to spare. Paying my bills and surviving come before buying new music ( haven’t bought a new CD in 2 years )As to awards big deal. I don’t listen to or not listen to an artist because of the awards hey won and I don’t think her country CD was out in time for consideration for new artist at the CMAs and I don’t know if they even have a best new category for country artist at the Grammys and no other music awards show with country as a theme or category has released their nomination lists yet.
The sad point of the silly little two paragraph article that started this whole debate was what she was wearing and the writer’s silly opinion that she was showing too much which unless you are Amish she was not showing too much. I am sure some who think she did even think that purely based on their view of any woman wearing a dress like that and not on if they like how her voice sounds.

Wow, most of you are being very harsh and very negative. What’s the old saying, “It’s not bad publicity as long as they spell your name right!” Well, If you don’t like Jessica or Taylor or Kelli or… whoever, stop talking about them… If no one is talking about them, people will forget about them…
Just because you are blogging and you are annonymously making rude, mean and cruel comments does NOT make it ok!!! How would you feel if everyone pointed out all of YOUR faults, mistakes, mishaps etc… (Yes, you have them and make them too) At least she is trying to do something and make a difference for herself and trying to bring happiness and/or entertainment to people! Can you say the same about yourself? Have you ever put yourself out there? Let those who live in glass houses throw the first stone…
I’m not a Jessica fan or foe, I’m just someone whose parents taught me to have class and to respect & love people… don’t judge them or be cruel to them cause Life stinks when all those bad things you’ve said about someone comes back to bite you in the butt!!
Leave the girl alone! She deserves kudos just for being able to get out there and try it!

Jessica Simpson is a very beautiful girl! Theres no daught about that at all. But I feel that this outfit is a little “too much.” Yes she can’t help what God gave her, BUT we all know their there & she doesn’t have to draw our attention to them by wearing low-cut shirts.

Dolly Parton, Kelly Pickler, LeeAnn Womack, Shania Twain, Cher, Gretchen Wilson, Heidi Newfeld(sp?), Jewel, and now Jessica. What is this, some sexy woman can sing and let’s the guys have a little bit of a show and you ARE hating on her. Did you even listen to the girl sing or where you hypnotized by her “golden globes”? I had a chance to buy tickets and go, but no date. Hmmmm, maybe if I’d have known she was going to wear that, I’d have gone stag and hooked up with someone after the Joe Don and the boys got done!

I was at the Greenville show as well, this show marked my 25th time seeing Rascal Flatts. I really only attended this show to see Jessica. I have been a HUGE fan of her’s since the late 90s. I was afraid that she would be a train wreck and that folks would boo her off the stage. But they did just the opposite. I was in the 4th row on the floor and by the middle of her set there were quite a few folks STANDING and APPLAUDING her preformance. Despite her attire, this girl can sing!! She has a phenomonal voice and she can really belt it out. I was very pleased with the outstanding job that she did. Yes, I might have seen up her mini skirt one too many times during the night, and heck I might have almost seen more that I paid for. But give Jessica a break. Go out and buy her country album and see for yourself that she really CAN sing. She is out there pouring her heart and soul out into these songs. She is a terrific talent if you guys would just give her a shot. Thats all she is asking for. Don’t put her down just because her top was a little too low cut, or her skirt was too short. One of her idols is Dolly Parton, maybe she figured if it worked for Dolly; then maybe it could work for her.
I give her performance an A! I would see her again and again if I could. I’m glad that Gary, Jay and Joe Don (aka Rascal Flatts, for those of you who DON’T know their names)saw something GREAT in her enough to ask her to come out and tour with them. Whether you believe it or not the headliners DO have a say so as to who opens for them. They apparently thought she was a perfect fit for them at this time. So I’d say ‘Don’t knock it before you try it’!

It’s not like the blogger put a picture of a random guy off the street and said critique his outfit.
Jessica has made herself a public figure. When she is in public, she is at work. When Jessica is on stage singing, she is at work too. This blog was about an outfit she wore to work. People are pointing out flaws in her job performance (bad voice) and uniform (ill fitting, inappropriate).
It’s no different to make a comment here about the service Jessica Simpson provides than it is to drop an anonymous comment card in restaurant’s comment box about the service your waitress provided at lunch.
Since everyone in the world is a potentional customer of Jessica Simpson, everyone has the right to an opinion about her work attire and singing ability.
The Simpsons would be smart to view the comments on these blogs as free marketing research, but if they don’t want Jessica’s job performance critiqued, she needs to get out of show business.
Brandi B. says:
“Saying the only way to give her a shot is to buy the album or buy concert tickets sounds like the pitch of Simpson employee paid to make comments here.”
.. Thanks, I appreciate that compliment. But I’m just a fan who enjoys her music and thinks she is doing a great job getting up there on that stage night after night infront of all of those fans. :-)

I gave her a shot. I heard her whole album for free on CMT and I didn’t like anything enough to give it a second listen let alone buy it.
Countrylord says:
Ringlord my facts are correct.
Big Machine is NOT part of Motown or Universal. Big Machine has an agreement with Universal to be their distributor. Universal is also distributing Taylor’s CDs worldwide. Universal distributes CDs for Big Machine and other labels.
Wow so you think ALL critics are scum, even those who gave the best artists and albums positive reviews? I disagree. Some reviews are crap and inaccurate and some are very accurate. I’ve read many accurate reviews. One does not need to be involved with producing music to have good taste and write good reviews. All it takes is a good ear and listening to many albums. My ears are fine and I don’t need to listen to critics. It’s not a good sign when an artist has many album and concert reviews and only one or a few are positive. Jamey Johnson’s That Lonesome Song is the current favorite country album of the critics and it’s one of the best albums. I won’t be surprised if he wins a Grammy or two. The Grammy nominations are out and they don’t have a best new country artist catagory. Even if you don’t believe the critics there are fan voted awards. CMT awards are voted by country music fans and MTV music awards are voted by pop fans. Jessica has four pop albums without one single nomination and it’s harder for women to make it in country music than in pop music.
When I said pop radio I was referring to Top 40/CHR radio as a group of all stations, not just one or a few stations. Kellie’s songs have never had enough spins to move up the Mediabase pop airplay charts. Only a few pop stations played Red High Heels a few times. I think Seacrest played it once when Kellie did an interview about American Idol on his station, and a few other pop stations played it a few times. If WPLJ played Red High Heels, most likely it was only for a few requests or a very brief time, not enough to make the song move up the chart at all. When Kellie opened for Rascal Flatts at Madison Square Garden it was “Presented by WPLJ” and they may have played a few spins to promote the concert. WPLJ is a Hot AC station and the Hot AC chart isn’t as big in audience size as the Top 40 chart. Top 40 radio audience size is 62 million vs. Hot AC @ 17 million per week for #1 songs. Hot AC stations play many of the same songs played on Top 40 stations because labels release many songs to both groups.
I just checked WPLJ’s playlist and none of Kellie’s songs are on it, not even in their top 100. Taylor’s Love Story is #15. Try calling WPLJ to request Kellie’s hot new pop/rock crossover single Best Days of Your Life and ask why they aren’t playing it every day. It’s her best pop/rock crossover single so far so they should add it to regular rotation and play it every day if they have it and are allowed to. Also ask “don’t you have to play it just because she was on American Idol”? and be sure to mention Taylor Swift co-wrote and sings on it.
The Idols WPLJ currently plays are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie, Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, and David Archuletta because Sony released some of their songs to Top 40 and Hot AC. Kellie’s songs have never had any significant airplay on pop radio because over 99% of stations haven’t played them and the few that did only played them a few times. Shania, Carrie and Taylor have massive airplay and some of their songs made top 10 on the pop airplay charts. We’re talking about just a few spins vs. many thousands per week for months and years. Right now Taylor’s Love Story is #5 on Top 40 with 8,273 plays and an audience of 47 million just for this week. Kellie has never had that much airplay on country radio and nothing significant on pop. That’s why Taylor’s sales are so much higher. Since many millions more people hear her music each week, millions more buy it. I don’t know why Sony doesn’t try to sell more of Kellie’s albums by releasing a few of her songs to pop radio. It would be worth a try since her crossover songs are just as good as many and better than some songs that made #1 on pop radio.

Countrylord says:
George: True, Kellie is real country and her albums are a diverse mix of pure country and country/pop/rock songs. I hear twang in her pure traditional country songs like One of the Guys. However her pop/rock crossover songs like Best Days of Your Life sound no more twangy than Carrie’s pop/rock crossover songs like Before He Cheats because both are diverse singers who can go with the flow from country classics at the Opry to rockin’ with Vince Neil at the Wildhorse and Kid Rock in Iraq. Rascal Flatts is the biggest country/pop crossover group. Compared to Kellie’s vocal on her pop/rock crossover songs, Gary sounds more twangy on Flatts songs that were played on pop and AC radio, for example look at WPLJ’s playlist and you will see What Hurts the Most at #55. So much for the theory that Kellie sounds too twangy for pop radio. As I said above, Kellie, Carrie, and Taylor are the only ones with great current country/pop/rock crossover songs that can make it on pop radio.
Following Carrie’s lead is exactly what I’m talking about. Sony released a few of her songs to pop and AC radio to try to increase her sales by millions of albums and singles, and it worked. Obviously there is no guarantee but it’s worth a try. Never say never. Kellie does not sing with twang on the Christmas classic Santa Baby yet for some strange reason Sony released it only to country radio while they released Carrie’s song on the same album to both country and AC radio. I’m sure Kellie’s Santa Baby would have done well on AC if they bothered to release it, and her vocal blows Madonna’s popular version away.
“Also, the only way you get airplay on pop radio is by remixing your songs to pop like Taylor and Shania did.”
Nope, as you said none of Carrie’s songs that got heavy pop airplay were remixed. They got pop airplay because they are great songs and Sony decided to release them to pop radio. It was no fluke it was decided and done. The best country/pop/rock crossover songs deserve to be played on country and pop radio. Why should great real country singers bother to record pop/rock crossover songs if pop radio listeners aren’t going to hear them? If Sony isn’t going to release them to pop radio then they might as well only record more traditional country songs like Jamey’s In Color.
“Kellie is better off following Carrie’s lead and staying true to country music”
I agree and I’m not talking about doing anything different from what Sony did for Carrie or “selling out” to pop as you say. I don’t like pop remixes and Kellie’s songs are fine as is. They don’t need to be remixed to get pop airplay, they just need to be released and given the same promotion by the same company that released and promoted Carrie’s. Sony already has pop divisions and promoters. Remixing songs with pop beats waters them down. I’m sure some pop fans like it though and Taylor’s label probably figures most country fans will never hear them.
K says:
Kellie doesn’t remix her songs, and has gotten no airplay, not even that much from country radio. She has always made it known she wanted to be country, and she’s from a country town.
Carrie grew up on a farm in a town of about 3,000 people, and SHE also made it known she wanted to be known and respected as a country artist. She refuses to remix her songs, and she doesn’t “double dip” by going onto MTV and pop networks.
Taylor writes country songs. She writes about real, teenage life with relatable, catchy lyrics and beats. BUT she remixes her songs, goes on MTV to promote herself, etc. Like others have said, Taylor doesn’t seem to know what genre she wants to be in: pop or country? If she wants to be country, she should market herself as so, meaning get off MTV, and start respecting your own songs as country.
I have the same problem with Jessica. She wants people to take her seriously as a country artist, yet she hasn’t done anything significant or newsworthy for the genre. Is it merely a fluke that all of her other avenues to get noticed (pop music, movies, ect.) were not successful, and she just decides to “go country” because she suddenly has “respect” for the genre? She wants people to respect her, and it seems like she wants to revamp her image, by trying a new career move. But then she decides to dress totally inapropriate, and she makes comments that do nothing for people like blabbing on about Romo. If Jessica wants a country career and she wants respect, she should DEMAND it. Which means she needs to learn how to dress apropriate, say things that will get her respected, and actually have some credible material.
Ava says:
There’s nothing wrong with her choice of dress, gown, outfit at all. Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler and Leann Rimes where low cut gowns, blouses and dresses, and nobody complains about what they wear what’s wrong with Jessica showing what God has given her? She’s prettier than Underwood, Pickler and Rimes, yet these girls get no backlash from viewers. Leave Jessica alone!
Robert says:
I agree with countrylord. When artists work hard to make great country pop crossover songs, labels should work hard to market them to country and pop radio. I don’t see what remixing songs for pop hurts as long as pop mixes aren’t played on country radio.

As usual, my comment was deleted. Jessica is not showing she wants to be taken seriously in country music, and her outfit above shows that. Artists usually make career moves because they want to start over, be known for something new. Jessica is not doing that, and is tarnishing her reputation.

Give her a break. Ever since she has came into country music she has been givin hell. She is an amazing singer and deserves everything she has worked for. She is a beautiful women no matter what she wears. I went to the concert the day after the greenville on in winston salem and to be honest I really wasn’t looking forward to seeing her but once she started performing I loved her
Mary says:
This outfit is too tight. She must have had it made prior to her holiday weight gain. It looks like the front will pop if she breathes. I’m not against cleavage; however, I am against it when you are the daughter of a minister. You can be beautiful without being slutty.
Barbara says:
Sex sells. In this case, sexy is selling the package. I don’t personally like Jessica Simpson, but I can’t criticize her for trying to market herself.
However, I agree with a previous comment. The dress she wore on the Grand Ole Opry was a DISGRACE. It looked as though she was going to pop out at any moment. Every country performer dresses more conservatively for Opry audiences. Please Jessica, learn from others, and show respect for the Opry audience.
