Gone Country 3: Sheila E.

Sheila E. is one of the celebrities participating in this season of Gone Country 3. She shares her thoughts about the upcoming experience.
My name is Sheila E., and people might know me as the girl who played "The Glamorous Life." That was a song done in 1984, and I was pretty much one of the first female percussion players to form her own band, and that's what people know me for, and for being very sexy in what I didn't wear on stage. The newest project I have is with my family. We just did a CD that will be released in February. And it's the whole family, my dad, Pete Escovedo, who stills plays percussion, my brother Juan and my brother Peter Michael. And then we have special guests on the CD, we have Gloria Estefan, Earth Wind and Fire, Joss Stone, Prince, Raphael Saadiq, Israel Houghton and George Duke. And I also have an all-girls band called C.O.E.D., which means Chronicles of Every Diva, and that's a fun band. And I have a foundation called Elevate Hope Foundation for abused children, which I've had for about seven years, and we deal with kids in the Foster Care system.
I really wanted to do this show because I love country music. I've always been a fan of country music. I listen to a lot of Christian and Gospel music which sometimes is country and contemporary. To be able to write a song with some of the best country songwriters and producers, it would be pretty awesome, and it's a good door for me to walk into, and a challenge. I think I can write a country song, I have the tools to do it. It's just figuring out what to do. Lyrically I could possibly do it because that's what I can relate to with country artists, are the lyrics and being honest and sincere about our lives. We write about situations or someone else's, but musically it's going to be different, so I'm excited about that. It's going to be challenging, but I'm going to try and make this as fun as possible. I would be one to say that I would never do a reality television show, because I'm one to watch and go, "I would never do that." And the only reason why I'm doing it is because of the songwriting. So if that's what it takes to get through all that to do this, then it's worth it.
I think my fans should watch it because this is something that I've never done before, and I have really good fans. They always support me, and this is something totally different for them and I think they'll enjoy it. And the great thing about it is to try to win over the country fans because they are awesome people and that's another great experience for me. I want to see what JR can teach me, see what he can do!

Why not, most people today in Country Music have flopped trying to get back into Pop music. Country music has really gone to hell.
Matt Vessell says:
Hey Sheila. I am not a very big fan of the reality tv genre but I must say i am very excited to see your involvement in Gone Country. I think this will be a natural fit for your many talents. I always thought “Wednesday Like A River” had a country vibe to it, and it is an incredible song. Looking forward to watching you throughout the series.
I do have one question…when is the “Waters of Life” COED cd going to be released? Your fans have been patiently waiting for well over a year now. Please give us a hint.
Best of Luck!

Whutz good Ms. E,
Country music? Reality Tv? I don’t know about this one, but I do support your desire to try something different. If any one can make that leap it’s definitely you. I’m sure country music fans will love you the moment you step on stage. How can they not, the greatest musician ever has Gone Country. Well for a little bit anyway. After that we’re gonna need you back.

The great thing about you is your humbleness about being in the biz. I have enjoyed your music for years and your passion for music is evident when you play and sing. I’ll pray for your journey during this season and I will pray for all the musicians involved during Gone Country 3. Knock’em alive! God Bless You!
Jenny says:
I love the show, everything about it. But early on in the show John Rich said to Tara Connor. When he was introducing her to the stage, about “she was the first Miss Kentucky”. And as much as I’m a fan of John Rich, sorry John you were wrong. Heather French was the first to be crowned Miss Ky., in 2000. So ya might want to check your facts.

Hey Sheila,
I hope with your experiment with country music, you and George Clinton, get together and do an album with some “CountryFunk”. Especially with both your creative music skills, you can start a new genre of music with that, and that would be very cool. Good luck and blessings with your adventure on the show.

you really tear up on those drums. give it your all sheil e.
Philly Jazz says:
Many of us know about the Sheila E that plays drums, but it has been a pleasure to see Sheila the person. You are a hands down favorite to watch. Your energy and enthusiasm on the show is enspiring.
It wasn’t popular being the skinny kid with toting the trombone all around, but I did it in a rough area and I am better person for it. We all know that music is a great gift, but the person who makes the music beautiful is the wrapping paper.
Keep on playing and living life. You’ve again inspired.
Dana says:
You’re just eating up the competition with your competitive spirit. I have to agree with Philly Jazz; I’m watching this show to see you.
stinkyboy says:

Teia Burton says:
Sheila, I really enjoy the show! I’ve told everybody that u’ve “Gone Country” and they where like, Whaaat? I have to say, if it wasn’t 4U being on the show, I wouldn’t be too interested in watchin it. I would check to see what George was up to but, that’s about it. I tape the show every week, call to remind people it’s about to come on and discuss it with friends. It really shows that u r a REAL & DONE TO EARTH PERSON but, I knew that anyway! Did U bring enough shoes? I ain’t made at u. I’m a shoe lover too! And as far as how u use to dress back in the day being sexy. As a female, to me, it didn’t take away from you being a talented, beautiful, smart woman with class and you still are! You are an inspiration! Yeah, the vegan thing through me too. Glad u cleared that up. Nothin wrong with being one but, I did wonder, what do u eat to have the energy u have to play!!?? To me it’s about the kind of meat and how much. I hope u have/had a good time and experience on the show, can’t wait till U and the family CD is finally released, good luck and God Bless U and your future endeavor.

Congrats Sheila! Glorious Train is a very uplifting tune, I’m not sure it was ‘country’ as I know ‘country music’ but it is terrific. All the songs had merit and you proved your drive and mettle in all the competitions. Best wishes to you.
