My Summer Will Revolve Around June 13 and Kenny Chesney

Posted: January 14th, 2009 at 6:34 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Kenny Chesney Artist PageThere it is, circled three times with a big red marker: June 13. Like a beacon in the otherwise empty pages of my June month-at-a-glance calendar. It's the day Kenny Chesney will bring his Sun City Carnival tour through my town. And I have to say, thank God, he finally announced his dates. Because I have kids' summer camps to register for, vacations to book, backyard barbecues to plan and now, trips to Fan Fair to cancel. But I was not about to firm up any plans until I had some Chesney on my calendar.

Plenty of you, I know, are turning up your noses at me. Tsk-tsking me for not putting family first and all that. But then there are those of you who get it. The ones who do exactly what I'm doing. You might be die-hard Chesney fans -- or new Miranda Lambert fans or Lady Antebellum fans. But you know exactly who you are and exactly how this works. You sincerely want everyone in your life to have a fun-filled summer. But you also don't want to book your vacation at Lake of the Ozarks only to find out that Kenny Chesney is coming to your town just as you're pulling into Silver Dollar City. So you plan ahead, using his tour schedule as if it was your own.

It's nothing to be ashamed of. Chesney shows, whether you are madly in love with him or just kind of like his music, have become summer staples. Kind of like the Fourth of July. So go ahead, look up the dates on his Web site and plan around them. He starts in Connecticut on April 17 and stops in about 50 towns until he lands in Indianapolis on Sept. 19. And be proud that you are as passionate about country music as he is.

I can’t wait to see him in Seattle. I hear that Sugarland and Montgomery Gentry will play some of the stadium shows. Personally I’m getting a little sick of seeing Sugarland at Kenny’s concerts but guess I can use that time to go to the bathroom and get something to drink.

Janet, First you say Kenny don’t deserve all this hype, you sound bitter that TIM MCGRAW anit getting it.
Both Tim & Kenny have worked so very hard to get where they are today, so why sing Timmy’s praises and try belittle Kenny? They are very good friends. Just go be Tim’s biggest fan and don’t worry about Kenny if you don’t like him why waste your time getting on here and looking so jealous.

And as far as Kenny having the guts to do what Tim did why should he Kenny brings a bunch for the money it’s worth going to Kennys show and see several than pay the higher price to just see Tim & Faith’s love fest.

I never heard Lady A say that at the award show they were just happy and humble to be there.

BTW, if you are gonna compare Tim & Kenny you forgot between the ACM’s and the CMA’s Kenny has 8 ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR AWARDS and Tim has 1!! And Kenny has sold the first stadium out in 10 min’s this year already with out saying who was gonna be on tour with him.

I’m not sure about you but I didn’t get to go to to many shows last year and may not this year money is tight for just about everyone so I’d say thats why some of Kenny’s shows didn’t sell out but he still played to over 1 million fans for the past 6 years. Tim Didn’t.

    Everyone has their own opinion!!!

I couldn’t agree with you more. I have young children and don’t get out much anymore. But you better believe this concert will be one of the few times I leave the kids with Mom and Dad for the weekend (gasp!) and take off to fully enjoy Kenny’s show. Anyone who doesn’t like Kenny can feel free to keep their butts at home. And anyone who can’t bear to leave the kids for a day or two needs to get a life. The date for Dallas, TX (May 2nd) is on my calendar and our sitter is already scheduled.

A Kenny concert is such a mind-altering experience, in that you forget about your troubles and cares for a couple of hours and really just get lost. I love it!

Great blog Alison. I love it when people stand up for who they are a fan of. You work hard and have every right to have a night to yourself. I think a lot of mothers should take a little time for themselves makes you a better mother. As for Kenny you are so lucky to see him in person.

I will definitely keep my butt home! Been to several Kenny concerts and he just doesn’t do anything for me. I was more entertained by some of the “guest” he brought along. Glad you all love him, but Kenny is just not my taste. Something about him from the very beginning was a turn off to me.

    Im With You There Sister!!

I dont plan anything for summer until I have the words “Kenny Chesney Concert” posted on my summer calendar. I love counting down the days til I go and see him live. It’s gotten even crazier since I have decided to follow him around Texas to all 3 shows. For the past summer and have already started looking at hotels, times I need to leave and have already asked off for work. No one unless you are a Kenny Fan understand just how FABULOUS his shows are and it is worth every penny I spend and believe me as anyone knows you spend a WHOLE LOT of pennies on T-shirt, Tickets and of course a cold drink chillin in your right hand.

I just have to tell Gail..Your on crack if you dont thing Kenny’s good in concert. . (Remember My Opinion.. No Offense..)

What in the world do you not like about Kenny in concert. He is all over the place and puts everything out there for his fans and is so involved in the crowd. He hits all the right spots and makes you feel like your on stage with him.

According to Bob, Waylon said that lame people like lame music. Guess that’s why I’m not a Waylon fan.

  • Gail says:

    Posted: January 15th, 2009 at 3:33 pm

See Lindsey, I think you are the one that’s on crack (ha,ha)because you think he’s so amazing. I said I’m glad you adore him, but I don’t. He just turns me off…his actions, his looks, his voice….just about everything about him. You asked, so I’m telling you! He may sound ok on CD but I don’t like his voice live. I’m more of a Keith Urban fan. His talents as a musician and singer do more for me. And I’m not here to argue about the two of them, one being greater than the other, if you know what I mean. I just lean more towards Keith’s kind of talents and entertainment. But I felt that way about Kenny way before Keith came into the picture. In fact I was at a Kenny concert with my daughter when I first saw Keith. I then realized Keith was what I was looking for. To each their own.

One year at CMA Fest, Kenny just showed up! We got up at 6am to see him at the Riverfront Stage. I got some of the best pictures of him ever.

I like Kenny Chesney alot and I want to see him this summer!

  • K says:

    Posted: January 16th, 2009 at 12:56 pm

And, for those trying to say Kenny brings in all the fans…don’t believe it! He always has four or five other acts with him on every tour- and they certainly aren’t all Kenny fans!

Several acts this year, including Carrie Underwood and Martina, sold over a million tickets as well- and they didn’t have four other opening acts to sell tickets. I’d believe Kenny deserved praise if he brought in all the fans by himself- but he didn’t, as evidenced by all the others he has to bring with him.

  • mg says:

    Posted: January 16th, 2009 at 2:53 pm

I do not believe that Kenny “has” to bring anybody with him…he is committed to putting on the best show and part of that is sharing the stage with other great acts! I really think he is a great entertainer and do not understand why people continually put him down. I really enjoy his shows…it is fun to see the opening acts that I would not be seeing otherwise and then to close the day with Kenny and all his wonderful hits!

I know EXACTLY what you are saying!! My summer is not complete until I go to his concert. It is the most fun I have ever had. We get to the parking lot around 10:30 am and party all day long. I am a middle aged woman and last year played “flip cup” with a group of under 25 year olds and felt like I was the same age! We all just had a grand ole time. Aug 22nd in Detroit for me! Yeee Ha!!!

Sorry, it’s just my opinion that he is incredibly OVERRATED for having such an average voice and songs that all sound the same.

  • Linda says:

    Posted: January 18th, 2009 at 7:42 am

I already have tickets for his Summer concert. He’s awesome in concert. His voice is great and he has a stage presence that many don’t. Most of all his concerts are fun.

Not everybody likes the same music. Don’t see why you negative people waste time writing a negative post. Your lives must be miserable.

  • K says:

    Posted: January 18th, 2009 at 4:36 pm

Because we think there are more talented people with better voices, better music, and better concerts than Kenny who deserve success over him. He’s mediocre in every way, and there are dozens of other artists who deserve a fair crack at this business. But many don’t get that chance, because an overrated artist like KC gets all the attention.

I’ll be there with you…June 13th at Soldier Field. The show was amazing last year, even if I saw it from the Nosebleeds. Hey I did have an amazing view of the lake too :) .

    I can’t wait for this year’s show.

I want to see him sooooo bad. He will be in Southern Cali. once at the Stagecoach Festival, but I cannot go. I hope he plays at an arena somewhere else in Southern Cali. =]

I would see Kenny even if he was the only was playing. The fact that he has others open for him is just a bonus.

    Posted: January 21st, 2009 at 12:20 pm

K…Why do you come on a blog about an artist that you think is overrated? Kenny is a great talent that has worked very hard to get where he is today!! This was not handed to him…he earned every award with hard work and never giving up. He was not accepted at first…he had to earn the respect of the Nashville elite. Kenny really knows how to put on a good show. Hey, he learned from one of the best…King George!

Anybody know when Kenny is going to release a Live concert DVD? I love to go to the shows, but the DVDs aford better views and better audio mixing. Yes, we’ll keep going to the shows but I need a show in my library just in case I need a fix.

Please, anyone out there with insight on this?

MG- I chose to come on blogs when I have a strong opinion on something. Not always just because I like an artist. I have an opinion on KC and that is he is incredibly overrated. Yes, he might work hard for his success, but so do a lot of people in music industry, who don’t get half as much attention as him.

Kenny is an awesome artist, but I do think people have a right to choose if they like his music or not. His concerts make me feel young again. Although, his attitude is a bit overbearing. He seems to conceited. Kenny is a cute guy but he is not all that. My husband doesn’t care for Kenny either. I don’t know why though. His music touches your soul and takes you back to fun days and times. I am excited for June 25th. He makes you want to get out of your seat and dance.

I as much of you enjoy seeing this man in action! This is the 2nd concert he has done at AT&T Park in SF! Last years concert left a vitual memory of how amazing all the openers as well as Kenny were. He played on and on…even having Sammy Hager come out at the end! AMAZING!!!
There was such a build up from last year that when I heard he was coming again this year I was all over it! Only to be bummed…Sugarland was a no show; the other 2 openers were good but played what they were expected to play and off they went. 2 hours went by with nothing…9pm, kenny got on stage (great opening) and played for 1 1/2 hrs! Didn’t even come back out. It was a real disappointment since last years concert blew everyone away! Next year I’ll be spending my money on something else. Real bummer… :(
