Cledus T. Judd Counts the Days "Waitin' on Obama"
"Son, ever since George W., I've been waitin' on Obama." Sound familiar? Like it might be that Brad Paisley song? Well it isn't, but it's close. It's country music's funnyman Cledus T. Judd, doing his take on "Waitin' on a Woman," only his version is less about a girl and more about checking off the days (12) until president-elect Barack Obama becomes official on Jan. 20. Judd, ever the master of relevant song parodies, sings "When McCain picked her as his running mate/I thought for sure that they'd be great/‘til she spent 100,000 just on clothing." He goes on to sing, "The last eight years have been so long/seems like everything's gone wrong/but as far as Republicans go she's sure a hottie/Have we lost our minds?/We'll know in time." So it goes, with lyrics about getting troops out of Afghanistan, lowering taxes and no more stickin' it to the man. As parodies go, I've heard worse. And whether or not you hear the humor in the lyrics, you have to admit the guitar and fiddle sound just like the real thing.

um, ew?
Ham says:
Has he lost a gigantic amount of weight or is that the wrong photo?
Craig Shelburne says:
That was indeed the right photo, but we found this patriotic shot to use instead. He also looks more like himself on the “album” art, which you can see at Amazon.
countryiscool says:
I love Cledus, and yes, he HAS lost a lot of weight. In one article, he attributed the loss to his new baby, for whom he wanted to be around to enjoy for many years. I love his parodies.
Chris N. says:
This from the guy who did not one but two songs bashing the Dixie Chicks. Any way the wind blows, I guess.
Leeann says:
He’s no Wierd Al.
countryiscool says:
Which is a GOOD thing Leeann, not that fond of ole Al, although he IS weird, I’ll give ya that.
Leeann says:
I like Al much better…and he can sing.
Leeann says:
You’re calling Al wierd when we’re talking about Cletus?:)
countryiscool says:
Cletus is funny though, not Al so much. And part of the charm
of Cletus parodies IS his singing (or lack thereof).
countryiscool says:
Well I beg to differ that Cledus voice ruins it, but then I happen to like him over Al, so my preference is clear. To each his own, and yes hm, I tend to agree I wouldn’t want to hear ANY of them over & over, just periodically.
Leeann says:
Fair enough. I just don’t find Cletus funny or charming in any way though. It’s not like I’m a huge fan of Al either. It’s just if I had to choose, which, fortunately I don’t…
countryiscool says:
Wow Leeann, you realize we agreed to disagree without getting nasty about it? I think we’re on to something.
lol Have a good day!
Leanne says:
Well, he WAS a novelty. But the jingle should have been:
‘Waitin for NoBama!’
Big Al says:
What ever you think he sings the truth.
Leeann says:
Note the different spelling of the other Leeann (Leanne); we’re not the same person.:)
Yeah Countryiscool, what a novelty.
countryiscool says:
Thanks Leeann for pointing out the name spell, I wasn’t paying close attention. I knew it was YOU I was responding to though (re: agreeing to disagree).
Cody says:
i love Cledus T. Judd he has been my favorite country artist since i first heard him 8 or 9 years ago and i love this new song!! hopefully he comes out with a new cd soon with some more parodies
David Nisbet, Scotland says:
This song is GOLD.
PS Roll on Tuesday :-)
Jill says:
Well said milsurf. I can only say, I’m disgusted.
Lynd says:
My opinion…. it sucks! I didn’t realize that Cletus had such a skewed view. Please do not get between me and the radio dial the next time that it comes on, you might be injured as I rush to change the channel!
Alison says:
Back on the weight loss comment earlier in the thread, from what I can tell of the video for this song, it looks like he’s gained a lot of weight back. Check out pictures from his Celebrity Fit Club days. He was down to 180 lbs and looked like Mark Miller’s (Sawyer Brown) brother. It made me happy to see him in such great shape, but I suppose if he’s happy where he is, that is most important. The guy has a big heart, so I can only hope he’s doing well.
nick says:
i think that its good. i love his songs and i think he bashed the chicks 4 times on his ep the origonal chick hick. he had a weite loss article in country weeklly a while ago. i have only heard weird al ounce with who let the cows in but he sounded funny and good. and everybody who called him cletus need to learn that his name is cledus or u can call him by his real name. i forgot what it is but its at wikipedia.org

Cledus was a cleberity DJ for 94.9 The Bull in Atlanta for about 8 months. He had his own show called the Cledus T. Party. He was awesome and brought some humor to the Atlanta air waves. He used to claim that he lost alot of his weight while using a product called Ultra 90. He resides in Cartersville, GA
