Nashville's (Officially) the New L.A.

Posted: January 5th, 2009 at 5:55 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Nashville... And that is not just my qualitative opinion. That is a quantifiable fact, according to the Internal Revenue Service tax filings that count up the 462 folks who moved to Nashville from Los Angeles between 2006 and 2007.  That makes Los Angeles County the second-largest population contributor, and it makes for very hip T-shirts declaring Nashville's newfound fame. The Tennessean has its theories on why so many are heading east, like jobs, affordable housing and peace and quiet. There's also the lack of crime, pollution and traffic. Then again, L.A. has plenty of offerings that Nashville does not. But if I had to choose one over the other, I'm pretty sure I'd pick Tennessee. I'd want to be where the music I love lives. Which spot would you call home?

Unfortunately, you can notice another trait from LA in the early morning drive into downtown. Dunno if I’m just seeing things, bit over the last couple weeks, I think I’ve noticed the wonderful haze of smog surrounding our fair city boundaries as well.

So if we get the population, the traffic, and the smog, can Bredesen do something about a beach and a consistent sunny and 75 degrees too?

I dont blame people for wanting to move from LA to Nashville..I love Nashville….but for the sake of it remaining a place I love and retaining the qualities that draw people to it now, I hope the people that are moving arent bringing the negative aspects of LA with them to Nashville. If thats the case, Id rather them just stay in LA.

I don’t think I’d want to live in either Nashville or L.A.; neither city much appeals to me as a place to live although I have enjoyed vacations in both cities.

If those were my only choices….. Nashville hands down. But I’m also rather partial to where I live now….. TEXAS.

…I guess the college isn’t that “grat” or “awsome”. Maybe THIS is why people from L.A are moving to Nashville. It reminds me of the cornfield scene, just before the apes are first seen by the astronauts. Remember that Heston line?

Nashville all the way. For one, it’s cleaner and two, I think it’s a better place to have and raise a family. That may be why a lot of stars are moving out there. There’s probably a more genuine feel to Nashville.

I’m with Pam: Texas it is. and DFW is right on the heels of Nashville in the population growth thing.

I don’t want to spoil the party, gee, sounds like a good song title, but anyway, the exodus would be because the line between the movie moguls and people wanting to make honest music might be getting too blurred in Los Angeles. The threat of course, is that it’s “the same conference”, politically speaking (from California).

LA has a cool country scene that is actually way better than the local country scene in Nashville. The two cities are totally different.. Nashville is great, but small.

funny, because Tennessee has way more CRIME than California! Tennessee is #5 most crime state in the US, California is 13, and thats sad because there’s more people in Cali and bigger cities… Nashville is also ahead of LA in crime… LOL, Nashville is 31st, LA is 94th. not to mention Memphis was #3 in 2008 and Knoxville was ahead of LA, w Chattanooga not to far behind. Yeah TN may be cheaper housing wise, but thats it. Education both grade school and college goes to Cali. Vandy is a good school but Stanford is better. UT… yeah try Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, Cal Tech, UC Davis, U.San Diego
