Resolving to Live Life More Country

Posted: December 31st, 2008 at 2:55 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

After too many years of too many of the same New Year's resolutions, I've grown completely bored with my own list. Probably because it always sounds just like everybody else's litany of self-improvement. Eat less. Jog more. Stop cussing like a sailor. Be more charitable. Never pay retail. It's like a broken record. Just one I never really seem to listen to.

This year will be different, I swear. Because this year, I looked to country music for inspiration for my resolutions. And it's not just a live-like-you-were-dying kind of thing. It's more of a wish list for living life a little more country. So in 2009, I promise to:

Go "Fishin' in the Dark."

"Start a Band," perhaps with a "Band of Brothers," and always "Play Something Country."

"Pray About Everything" and consider being baptized in that "Muddy Water."

Remember that "I Ain't Dead Yet."

Always keep "One Wing in the Fire."

"Be More Like Her."

Occasionally, "Get Drunk and Be Somebody" but stop before I start "Drinkin' and Dialin'."

Never end up "Flat on the Floor."

Never forget how it felt to be "Fifteen," a time when I felt like I was "Already Gone."

Write more "Happy Endings" and always see them "In Color."

Tell everyone the "Key's in the Conch Shell," then "Let It Go."

Always ask for "Good Directions" to the nearest "Redneck Yacht Club," so I don't have to take "The Long Way Around."

"Pledge Allegiance to the Hag."

Order my "Chicken Fried."

Always be "One Bud Wiser."

Remember that "Home Is Where the Heart Is," especially in "My Next Thirty Years."

"Bless the Broken Road" and always ask myself "Where Did I Go Right?"

I resolve to “Close Up the Honky Tonks,” commit “Murder on Music Row,” spend less time with pop country and Americana and more time doing more meaningful things.

I resolve have the guts to tell some people I know that they are “country my ass” and to have no more “lonely east texas nights.” I will drive “a long way from town” till i’m “ragged as the road” and have a “good time”. I will like it “when it rains”. “don’t do me no good” to act like I’m “forever young”. I am “old enogh” to be more responsible but will “let me” take time for an occasional “eight second ride.”

In 2009 I vow to help my boyfriend pick out “Our Song” so I can wipe off the “Teardrops On My Guitar” because he promised me “Forever and Always” and I vow to go see a “Tim McCraw” concert. When I first met my boyfriend I felt like I couldn’t “Breathe” he was so hot I didn’t want to “Change” a thing, he gave me “The Best Day” when I was “Fifteen”, we were “Fearless” and “Tied Together With a Smile”. I know I “Should’ve Said No” but I didn’t want to feel “Invisible” and he has “A Perfectly Good Heart” and I was tired of being on “The Outside”. Our relationship was just like a “Love Story”, “White Horse” and all! I knew we had found, “A Place In This World” together and would celebrate many New years to come!

For me, like if i’m french, my heart is “only in america” with a “long neck bottle” or “ten rounds with jose cuervo”. Be sure “that don’t make me a bad guy” !

I don’t want to spend any more time “Wasted” and realize that love isn’t “Just A Dream”. I “Want To” find “Something More” and not start “Settlin’” for anything else.

I’ve been “Prayin’ for Time” because I felt “Wasted” but “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” that I don’t have regrets but “All I Want To Do” is be “Somebody”, Love “Everybody”, begin life again by “Living on a Prayer” and not just wake up to find that it was all “Just A Dream”!!

Is Alison from New York City or somewhere else up north? How stereotypical she must think country people are. This list is so fake and bogus that it made me throw up on my computer screen.

I mean.. “Pray About Everything”? Is this a joke? I’m seriously wondering why Alison has a job with CMT.

Hey King if you threw up on you computer then how come you can still keep posting so many comments? What do you have against Luke and “Pray” anyway? He’s not stereotypical at all–he is as real as they come. Thats just one good song but he has a whol album full of traditional country ones.

I resolve to enlighten “Everybody” like Andrew they might as well leave the radio off then, because Taylor isn’t going away and she’s always on heavy rotation! & I couldn’t be happier for her, and the rest of her millions of fans! :)

I vow to be a fan of Taylor Swift “Forever and Always,” my love for her music will never “Change.” I resolve to find a guy who will take me off on his “White Horse” so we can create a “Love Story” together. I hope that Taylor will “Stay Beautiful” and always remember to take time “Breathe” when things get crazy for her. I resolve to find someone who can “Tell Me Why” they don’t like Taylor Swift. In 2009, maybe I’ll find my “Place In This World” and leave behind who I was at “Fifteen.” I plan to have blood, sweat, and “Teardrops on My Guitar” while I learn how to play. Mostly though, I hope to be “Fearless” in everything I do and to meet Taylor Swift because that would be “The Best Day” of my life.
    :)

I resolve to remember to still make “some mistakes”, and that “cowgirls don’t cry.” I vow to never learn “the hard way” that “tequila makes her clothes fall off.” To never listen to the stupid “things people say” and that everything in life is “only what you make of it” To make a “stand” before “the sand runs out.” To soak up every second of these “fast cars and freedom”, cause “you’re gonna miss this.”

  • Emily says:

I resolve to go out with my friends in my “Red High Heels” and have “The Best Day” with them. I promise to remember “These Days” and to never let the “Days Go By”. To never “Change” who I am for somebody. To always be “Lookin for a goodtime”. Try to be “More Than a mememory”. To learn how to “Drive”. “Pray for Daylight” when somebody “brings on the rain”. and to achieve “All I ever Wanted”

  • Rachie says:

I reslove to have a “Good Time” this year even thought it might not turn out like a “Love Story”. Things will “Change” and I might “Cry” a few times, but I will always “Stay Beautiful” and “Take off this Pain”. This year, I can get “Another Try” at being “Fearless”, and “Live Like [I] was Dyin’” because “[I'm]Gonna Miss This”. “Sweet Dreams”!!

  • Rachie says:

    Posted: January 4th, 2009 at 10:47 pm

Oh yeah, and there will be “Lessons Learned”.
