Free Country Music Available Just About Everywhere

Posted: December 31st, 2008 at 2:30 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Isn’t it good to know that with all the economic strife around us, it’s free and easy to get country music anytime you want? Just turn on your radio. There are 2,024 country radio stations across America, so chances are there is one near you. Sure, you have to listen to a few monotonous commercials and some mind-numbing DJs, but that comes with plenty of good music from Taylor, Sugarland, Carrie, Alan, Toby, Brad, Kenny, Trace, Dierks, Keith, Tim and Martina. In fact, according to Billboard magazine, country is very much the No. 1 music format in radio. Even after losing 30 stations in the past year, country music is still on top. (News/talk stations are ahead of country, but that’s probably just because everyone wants to hear about said economic strife.) So turn it on, turn it up, and enjoy this free country of ours.

I would rather pay for my own music then listen to radio stations that will play the same song over and over and over again. Might as well buy an mp3 player and download whatever you want to listen to. It is better then what radio is doing.

I like to listen to the radio but sometimes I get sick of the same songs over and over. After going to the CMA festival in Nashville I have found that there are many good artists who never get play time. I look for them on itunes and download them. Nice to have variety.

I would listen to country radio more, if they played something besides taylor, carrie, kenny, and rascal flatts…a little variety would go a long way….

The radio station in my area plays EVERYTHING. It’s sometimes a little annoying because I’m in the mood for the new stuff, but once in a while, a good old song comes on and it’s all good again :-) I think some radio stations actually DO play a variety of things and other stations don’t. Maybe it’s just the luck of the draw?

Troubled Country Radio. That’s right. I wouldn’t say Country Music is FREE. Country Radio plays the same artists. Sure you can streamline a competitive amount of Country Radio stations and the majority is the same as the next. Whoopi! When an artist releases a new song to radio if it does not appear on there TOP 40 Countdowns or billboards FORGET IT. Country Radio will not PLAY the song and you’re not getting FREE Country Music. In return you are fortunate enough to listen to the same song you heard 53 minutes ago. I find that to be very UNCERTAIN to LISTENERS who look forward to requesting and hearing there favorite artist. Not only has Country Radio forced listeners like me to listen to whole different format of music than COUNTRY MUSIC. I purchased one Country Music CD in 2008. James Otto’s Sunset Man. It’s sad when I couldn’t find any reason more to buy another since all I had to do was turn FREE country Radio on.

Be lucky in USA to have so many radio station, because, we have 0 radio station in france…..too bad! We do the FACM country shows in france to promote country music. You can listen to facm.free.fr 3 hours each month with all news CDs on podcast. I listen many US radio station via internet, and i am not agree to say that DJs play the same artists. You can find station for bluegrass, for news, for texas country, ect…There are many possibilities to listen many kind of country.

As someone who works at a country station, I’d say you’re better off with an mp3 player. For every one good song, you have to suffer through three bad ones. Country radio plays singers who are not country (Kid Rock, Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift, etc.), while ignoring actual artists like Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson and Justin Townes Earle.

I think it is wonderful that we have the freedom to listen to what we want to hear. Thank God we do not have to listen to the ones that can not sing. Radio gives us a choice to listen or not. Simple as that! Everyone has an opinion but not always an educated opinion.

If you like your Mp3 player better than your local radio stations then by all means burn your radios in a huge neighborhood bonfire and listen to your MP3 Player.

With that being said MP3 players can not offer you the new artist that come on the scene. And it can not offer you the entertainment of good Morning Shows with talented DJs, yeah you have podcast, but how long can you listen to the same podcast over and over? As for the commercials, without them you have no station and no station is no music and no music…is…well, a sad world.

You probably don’t like to load the washing machine and you probably don’t like to fold the clothes when they are dry…but if you want clean clothes you (or someone) will do it. Maybe you should apply the same principle and grit your teeth when Chesney comes on or change the station when Swift’s ex-boyfriend Shoulda Said No. Thats why their are preset buttons.

I couldn’t imagine listening to Commercial Pop radio. The dumbing down of society continues. It’s just not my thing. I know most people don’t, but I prefer to look for my music as opposed to sitting around waiting for it to come to me in the form of a limited airplay format, screaming dj’s and mind numbing commercials. Not my idea of entertainment.

Andrew, Kasey, Shane and Justin are not played on Pop radio because they are not Pop acts. There music is played on Roots radio where it belongs. “Rattlin’ Bones” was the #1 album on the AMA chart(which is based on airplay spins). Justin is also on the AMA chart. so these artist are being played on radio…a lot. Follow the genre, and you’ll find the music.

all i hear on my country radio station is kenny chesney. seriously. you probably hear him about 3 or 4 times every 50 minutes. its ridiculous and very sad. theres more people out there besides him. why dont they play someone else?

Even better is satellite radio like Sirius and XM. You don’t have to listen to commercials and annoying djs. And they play a lot of new music before you hear it anywhere else.

I mostly hear Taylor Swift on the radio, and I generally change between three stations. I mostly listen to it in the car, and when there’s a bunch of new singles for new albums I listen to it a lot.

The rest of the time I’d rather listen to my ipod. A lot of the best songs are the ones on the CD’s that never get played on radio.

    I live in southern California
we have probably 3 country stations out here
I rarely listen to the radio and when I do it’s mostly my fave country station
But I enjoy listening to my iPod
which basically is just Taylor Swift’s CD lol
I get excited when Taylor’s songs come on the radio though, so I request them at least once a day
    :)

I like hearing Kenny chesney on the radio, also like taylor, Brad, and Keith Urban. I don’t mind the new stuff.

I love country radio, but in my town, they play too much stuff from artists I’ve never heard of, and not enough of the taylor, carrie, kenny and such

I’m not sure how people can listen to satellite radio…the quality is awful. I’d never pay for that. It’s not quite as bad with iPod and such, but you’re still listening to a low quality audio file if it’s mp3.

I have the good fortune to work at a small town radio station that doesn’t subscribe to corporate values, and whose DJ’s don’t think they walk on water.

Well there are 0 country radio stations in the NYC area…the only country songs you may hear is Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats, which has been played millions of times since 2006, and Taylor Swift, who basically crossed over to pop…and the occasional Rascal Flatts song. Plus you really can’t listen to sirius or XM because of all the interference…The only way I get to listen to country is on the computer or t.v.

Thank goodness for Texas music/musicians and some folks down here with a whole lot better music sense than mainstream “country” radio programmin’ suits!

    Gotta have my ROOTS!!!

Satellite radio’s have to be placed in the proper position to get the best single and it has to be kept clear of obstructions otherwise you can get very good radio quality with the station that suits your needs such as new country bluegrass and even Elvis, and NASCAR radio.
