Keith Urban Jonesing for Tour

Posted: December 29th, 2008 at 5:26 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Imagine listening to your voicemails one day and hearing this amid the litany of nonsense from friends and family: "Hey, everyone, this is Keith Urban." At first I thought he was just calling me, which would've been totally weird. Awesome, but weird. Then I quickly realized I must've signed up for some mobile update club at a concert somewhere. Still, it's a cool message. He goes on to say "We're at Castle Recording Studio in Franklin, Tenn., working on the album." And then, "I'm sort of jonesing to get back on the road right now. As soon as record's finished, before we know it, it will be February, March and than we'll be into rehearsals for the tour." He thanks everyone for the cards and letters from his fans -- and especially one that says he's the entertainer of the year forever and always. "Eat that, Kenny Chesney," Urban jokes. Nothing like a little healthy competition right there in my voicemail inbox to brighten my day.

So now he’s badmouthing other country artists? I thought you had a problem with that?

  • Alison says:

    Not when it’s meant as a joke, I don’t.

I see… It’s amazing how you can seperate between a fact and a joke, and differenciate which offends you or not. So a country artists stating an opinion based on fact is badmouthing, and a trash talking joke about a country artists is acceptable? There’s a little truth behind every joke.

he was not badmouthing another artist. Fans put their money together and gave him their own version of the Entertainer of the Year Award and it was inscribed saying he will be their ETOY for Ever. So as he was reading it, he was laughing and said, Take that Kenny Chesney Forever. It was a joke, it was tickled that his fans would do that for him.

Not to mention Keith is good friends with Kenny… he did get a motorcycle from him once… he is just joking around.

    Calm Down! seriously
Kenny and Keith are great friends.

I’ve heard Keith say that Kenny was just like a brother to him. I viewed the video of Keith making that statement and it was definitely a joke!! They seem to have a lot of respect for one another. Keith’s fans were just showing him how much that love him. I thought it was a neat thing to do! I cannot wait until March and to get Keith’s new CD!

He was showing the fans how much he appreciates them and how much that award touched him, I thought it was cool that he acknowledged getting it and how much it meant to him. I’m jonesing too Keith for that new music and tour, I’m sure it will be aussome as always and am looking forward to it! I’m totally loving “Sweet Thing” right now! He has nothing but admiration for Kenny, and they have both said they are the greatest of friends. It’s all good.

I watched the video of Keith thanking his fans for the award, their loyalty to him and everything we do for him. Keith was only reading the inscription his Monkeyville fans voted on. If you watched the video you would know he was only joking. He and Kenny have been the best of friends since Keith toured with him years ago. Keith probably called Kenny, after he called Nicole, to tell him about the award from his fans!

Now that he’s badmouthing other country artists, it may be a little too late, and he may be a little too wrong.

He was not bad mouthing Kenny and he and Kenny are good friends. He was speaking directly to all of his fans for an award that WE had made ONLY for him, that said he was OUR ETOY Forever and Always. It was something special that we did for him and he was speaking ONLY to his fans!
He was thanking us and wishing us a happy holiday. He was filling us in on his new upcoming CD and Tour and WE are all thrilled about it!
Why do people that are not fans feel the need to read and comment on things that they aren’t even interested in…don’t you have artists that you are interested in that you can post on their threads?

    Dude! Chill…Puffy Cheeks!

Keith and Kenny are very good friends and there is nothing but love between them for each others careers! There is always going to be competition between fine talented artists Country Stars or otherwise!

I had the pleasure of seeing Keith this past weekend at the Ryman and he is the most down to earth guy you’ll ever meet! I also received the same voicemail and watched the video after he received the fan’s award to him. We are a faithful bunch and love Keith and his family and band very much!

Anyone in Nashville you talk to will tell you that…I know I was there!

    Enjoy a Happy New Year…

    Always and forever a Monkey!

Loved getting this voice mail from Keith! But anyone who takes it the wrong way needs to get over it! It was just a funny comment made by Keith about his best friend. Keith and Kenny have been long time friends for many years and I am sure they both joke about things like this. In fact, Keith has won many awards including the prestige CMA Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year(2 times ACM, 3 times CMA, 2 Grammys and Album of the Year (ACM) not to mention he is still nominated for these awards every year. So with all of his recognition along with a beautiful wife and baby girl why in the world would Keith even have to bad mouth any artist. Keith is one of the most humble and nicest guy in country music today and I am sure that he and Kenny are both laughing at the joke. Although in my opinion, Keith should win the ACM and CMA Entertainer of The Year. Although Kenny is a great entertainer, anyone who attends a Keith Urban concert would have to agree that Keith’s passion for his music and high energy leaves you breathless! Now that’s what I call an ENTERTAINER! Too bad they don’t give out two entertainer awards then they could both be our entertainers of the year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to both Keith and Kenny and all of their fans!

    A Faithful Monkey,
    Faye

I think RedMaz knows that Keith was just having fun with the comment. Seems RedMaz is just trying to stir up some trouble and get everyone in a tizzy.
Seems people with nothing better to do like to come online and get people worked up with stupid comments.

Thanks Keith for the message! Love that you and your team thought to send us voicemails! They are a real treat for us!

Im tired of Kenny getting credit for something that Keith helped him to accomplish…like all those ticket sales when KU was on the venue for example.

We the members of Monkeyville all worked together and picked out a trophy, an engravement, and a card and sent it to Keith as our entertainer of the year. Keith made a video for his KU Tube thanking us for the award and make that hilarious joke about Kenny Chesney. KC is overrated…and Keith is the best performer I have ever seen. <3

Awwww how cute the crazy fans gave Keith his own award. Too bad it’s the only way he’s winning any.

  • DebinPA says:

    Posted: December 31st, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Sue - we are NOT crazy fans, we are devoted fans. The only reason Kenny wins the awards is because he has people like Keith opening up for him. I would like to see Kenny fill stadiums with somebody like the “Wreckers” opening up for him. I went to see Kenny this past summer with Keith and all Kenny’s fans were interested in was drinking, they weren’t even paying attention to his singing. I admit, I like Kenny Chesney’s songs but Keith is an all around much better performer and vocalist.

  • RedMaZ says:

Thanks, but there’s no need for me to get a life. I already have one. If you’d pay attention, my reply wasn’t really about Urban or Chesney(I’ve checked them both out, and have heard enough of them to last a lifetime). My reply was to the author of this blog, and how one persons opinion based on fact is badmouthing, while anothers off the cuff remark is just kidding around. Like I said, there’s a little bit of truth behind every joke.

Well, ice pricess, glad you joined the conversation. Now look at the facts. How many country artists are there? 100s. How many are nominated in their category? At most - 5. Check back at the nominations for the past several years and see who has been consistently on those short lists. See any familiar names???? Dang right!! The greats! And Keith Urban is one of ‘em! He has perfected his craft and that is why anyone who loves music loves this man - not just the fans but his peers, too. Including Kenny!

Oh, and while I’m on the subject, take a look at nominations for ACM and Grammy awards and you just might be shocked that his name is there, too! Hmmmmm???

In defense of RedMaz, he or she did not really say anything bad about Keith. They were commenting on the whether the writer of this blog was being hypocritical. However, Red Maz, it was a very poor example to use since it is very obvious that Keith was joking around about his buddy Kenny and showing his fans how touched he was by the award. Keith Urban is by far the most passionate & naturally talented singer/songwriter/musician/entertainer in the business today and the most humble one at that. He hasn’t a jealous bone in him and is always giving others credit instead of taking it for himself so to anyone who knows that, hearing him say,”Eat that Kenny Chesney!” was just hilarious. Nuff said.

No matter what you all think Keith Urban is our “Entertainer of the Year” forever and always! and now he knows how we feel. If he ever forgets that, he has a special award that was thought of, paid for, and made by his fans to remind him that we love him. He would never bad mouth anyone by the way, he was just saying in fun to Kenny, look what I’ve got, a real EOTY award from the ones that really matter to me. Anything else is just something to collect dust.

I too got Keiths message and loved it and I am a big Kenny Chesney fan!! But it sounds like to me that some of you Keith lovers are bad mouthing Kenny…I saw Keith twice this summer with Kenny and I loved both of there performances. And, not all of Kenny’s fans are there getting drunk and not paying attention. I hear the same thing happens at all the shows…RF, King George and KU! I just hate it when people trash another artist. People think that Kenny is overrated but he is one of the most devoted artist and is very caring while trying to give his fans the best show for their money! Enough said…Happy New Year!!!

When will all commenters LEARN to just SKIP OVER any and all comments posted by RedMaZ. Let him’her vent but DO NOT address him/her AT ALL, you are just encouraging him/her to keep up with the bashing negative comments. That will be all you ever get from this person. If you do not have an “ignore” key on your board, as in self-restraint, then you are just looking for more of the same. Consider yourselves blog educated. There is no need to defend your fave artist against a person bent on maligning every pop country artist.

It’s not a joke. It’s a fact, Keith has been and always will be better than Kenny Chesney. Have you seen them on stage? There is no comparison. Can Kenny actually play the guitar or just one or two cords?

  • RedMaZ says:

I agree with luvncountry. If you are as limited, and narrow minded as him/her, there’s no sense in replying to me. I am only interested in talking to more knowledgeable people or people who are interested in learning and who have a passion for music. Not someone who just turns their radio on. Anyone can do that.

I am happy to be a fan of Keith Urban’s. I know that Kenny and Keith are very good friends. Keith always says he has the greatest fans. I, as a Monkeyville member, am proud to be a part of the award given to Keith. RedMaZ, I always see you posting on almost every Keith Urban article, and they are always negative. Seriously, please stop. If you dont have anything nice to say, you shouldnt say it at all. The phone messages mainly go to the Monkeyville members, and all of us know what he meant by that.

    Good Day.

I got the call on New Year’s day and I thought that it was really cool that he would think of us all. KC is over rated. Some of his songs are pretty good but his live preformance isn’t nearly as good as Keith’s. That’s how I became a devoted fan. I was a fan of Carrie and I went to see them together live and I walked out that night a HUGE Keith fan becuse his live show was that AMAZING! Keith has done so much over the past year to show that he is EOTY. If yall remeber he did play a couple shows with a slipped disk in his back. Now that’s dedication! =)
I thought it was wounderful that everybody over at monkeyville made the trophy for him. I’m a member of the street team my parnets won’t let me join monkeyville even though I want to REALLY bad! It was perfect! Everybody did a good job on it! That was clearly just a joke when you watch the video.
I will always love Keith Urban!
