Emmylou Harris Urges Dogs to Come Inside
Emmylou Harris has long been a champion of dogs, especially the ones who are down and out and homeless. Now she's helping PETA get the word out about keeping dogs inside because chaining one up or locking one in an outdoor pen is about the worst thing a person can ever do to a dog. "It hurts his body and his mind," Harris warns. Plus she wants every dog to be spayed or neutered. She's getting the message out with public service announcements on the radio and by thanking everyone for being a dog's best friend. Even if you are already doing all the right dog things, it never hurts to hear it again. I am on the verge of adopting one of these down-and-out dogs from a friend in Nashville. She followed Harris' advice to speak up when she saw a dog being abused. And now, thanks to her, I will be that dog's new best friend and she will be warm, fed and loved.

That’s right. For those who don’t know, Emmylou Harris has crusaded for animals for a very long time. Beautiful artist with a heart and soul to match. I am so tired of hearing about people picking out “designer breed” dogs, while loving companion animals sit waiting in shelters. Animals are not fashion accessories. There are far too many homeless animals in our world. Show your humanity: Spay, neuter and ADOPT!!

Thank you, Emmylou. Dogs are social animals. They want to be with their “pack”, whether four-legged or two. Bring them indoors and treat them like family; they might just turn out to be the most loving and loyal family member in the house. Vincent, I love your comment about dogs not being fashion accessories. Paris Hilton isn’t the only one who does this, although she’s probably the most famous for doing so.
