The Political Possibilities of Tim McGraw

Posted: December 11th, 2008 at 3:02 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Tim McGrawA few years ago, former President Bill Clinton told Esquire magazine this about Tim McGraw's potential as a politician: "I think he's got it. The Democrats need candidates whom people can relate to in a personal way, people who understand their lives and their concerns and share their values. And I think that's something Tim can do without even pretending." Fast forward to the end of 2008, and now The Tennessean newspaper is drawing parallels to Roy Acuff, the late country legend who thought some old-time religion and a little fiddling would help save Tennessee some 60 years ago. Acuff won the Republican primary but ultimately lost to the Democrat candidate at the time. McGraw's publicist has no comment on the topic, and McGraw himself certainly never makes any political statements when he's on tour. But look at Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan. It may seem like a gimmick when a celeb runs for office -- at least until they win and start making some much-needed changes.

I remember awhile back when the topic of Tim going political was first being covered in the media. At that time Tim made a comment along the lines of “I consider Bill Clinton to be the finest President the United States has ever had”. I was literally dumbfounded at the shallowness and naivete of such a comment.

Nowadays if Tim replaces Bill with Obama in such a statement when he does run in the future, he will tap into a huge voting block! I’d love to see Tim up against Bocephus in such an election race as their politics could not be more different.

Bocephus? Please…no more Rednecks! My vote is for James McMurtry.

I think when Tim made the remark about Bill Clinton,I think he referred it to his work. I think he was a good President of what he did for the country. The economy was great, many jobs, good health benefits and so forth.

But…what Bill did that there is not enough words to describe that makes him a horrible person.

I am not want to sound sexist, I am not. But maybe Tim found no wrong on what he did and SOME guys may feel the same way.

Tim already said before he is not running until his daughters are older. So, he won’t be running for years.

I hope Tim remembers that when running for office, his private life because the fore front. Tim has a lot of skeletons in his closet that’s for sure.

Jason how do you know what skeltons he has. Are you his close friend. I am sure he had his party days in the past, but he is a decent, honest, good man and would be great imo.

Janet asks Jason how Jason knows tim has skeletons in his closet. But one might ask of Janet the same question - how do you know he is “a decent, honest, good man?”

I am not sure what Tim McGraw’s “Skeletons” are, if any, but they will definately become public knowledge should he choose to run for public office. However, I seriously doubt that he has done anything so awful that he would humiliate himself in the political arena. But who knows….nothing shocks me anymore!
