J.D. Souther Hits California Stage
If I wasn't having a party on Saturday, and I lived in San Francisco, I'd be elbowing my way up to the front to see J.D. Souther perform. Don't know him? Sure you do. He's the guy behind 1979's "You're Only Lonely." That, and countless country-rock songs he wrote for the Eagles, Brooks & Dunn, the Dixie Chicks, George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Jimmy Buffett and so many more. And now he's done what so many singer-songwriters eventually do: recorded his own stuff in Nashville. (Souther actually moved to Nashville in 2003 and says, "Nashville's a nice town ... but I do miss that ocean.") His latest solo album, If the World Was You, stars Souther's distinctive tenor voice, which he says comes from his decision to give up smoking. As for his return to performing, he told the San Francisco Chronicle, "I've forgotten how much fun it is. There's no set list. I can do anything in any order I want -- grab a different guitar, sit down at the piano and go wherever it takes me." If you live anywhere near San Fran, and like what he describes as "an interface of traditional country music and whatever you want to call it," please go to the show and then report back here on Monday.

RedMaZ says:
I’ve been a fan of J.D Souther’s music since the 70’s Although I’ve only heard a little of the CD “If The World was You” so far, I’m glad he’s back recording music.
Rick says:
J.D. was performing here in Los Angeles as well at McCabe’s Guitar Shop and the concert sold out almost immediately. He still has a dedicated fan following to be sure and maybe the success of these shows will get him out touring more often in the future.

Why does his name sound so familiar? O know I’ve heard of him back when but can’t remember what he sang?
Jerry says:
Just thought you’d like to know how the show went at the church. He was in fine vocal form, and totally engaging with the audience. More than a little rusty on the guitar, but what was surprising was that the complex arrangements of the new tunes were successfully reduced for guitar. He said he’s touring again with a trio and a bigger band, so I’m sure you’ll catch him then.
