I Met Chuck Wicks Through CMT Music Pass

Posted: December 8th, 2008 at 4:53 pm  |  By: Katie Towns

Katie Towns and Chuck WicksI've been told I have an obsessive personality, but it's hard not to when you're around people like Chuck Wicks. Before his concert at Brick Street Bar in Oxford, Ohio, he took me and seven other fans on his bus where we had some beer and fruit, he played a new song for us and chatted about all kinds of things -- from his girlfriend Julianne Hough ("Did you see the headlines today? Apparently we're married," he said with a laugh) to his musical preferences (Brian McKnight is his "man crush") to Swedish Fish candy -- the red ones are his favorite, and he bit his tongue eating one the other day. Before singing us a song he just wrote called "High School Baby," he explained to us that when he writes songs, he writes them all as ballads so he can focus on the lyrics easier. After taking pictures and providing free merchandise and autographs, they then ushered us into the venue before the doors opened, and we all lined up in the front row. As he sang almost every song on his album, a new song and a couple covers, he was energetic and interacted with the crowd non-stop. Whether you're sitting on his bus with him, he's singing a song for you or you're watching him onstage, Chuck Wicks is one of the most charismatic, genuine, down-to-earth people you'll meet.

Editor's note: Katie Towns met Chuck Wicks after winning free concert tickets through CMT Music Pass.

Great job, Katie. You could be a journalist!

I could be wrong but to charge $100 to go on the bus and hang out seems a little steep. Luke Bryan played in Oxford earlier in the year and he spent some time with just about anyone who wanted to before and after and charged nothing. I watched the Chuck show though and I think I need to be a girl to understand. Keep supporting country music in Oxford. My friend was in the opening band.
