Trace Adkins Says Fans Want Songs, Not Politics

Posted: December 3rd, 2008 at 3:11 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Trace Adkins Artist PageIn case you missed it, Trace Adkins was on The O'Reilly Factor on Monday (Dec. 1). And boy, did he have some things to say about some things. Getting a spot on the hit news talk show can be a double-edged sword. Host Bill O'Reilly admits, "I look for guests who will stand up and verbally battle for what they believe in," but that doesn't always mean he'll let you say what's on your mind. But Adkins did get the chance to tell the world why he doesn't use the stage as a political platform: "People don't ... spend their hard-earned money to buy tickets to come to my show to hear me get on stage and preach to them my political philosophy. I get up there and sing the songs that they've heard on the radio, the other songs that they've heard on my albums." He added that fans probably think, "I just want to hear the tunes and I don't want to hear you puke up your liberal, you know, stuff on me." He summed it all up nicely at the end, telling O'Reilly, "I'm a singer, man. I sing country songs."

Good for you, Trace! The term “shut up and sing” is not so bad after all. I’m not even remotely interested in an entertainers political views. Even if they are in line with my own. I just don’t like famous people using fame to push their persoanl agenda on me.

    Amen to your comment TxAgg.

I believe Trace’s buddy, Toby Keith, can get pretty political, even on stage. What he’s saying isn’t liberal though, so it’s okay, right?

THANK YOU TRACE ADKINS, well said, ‘just sing’ is GOOD when a person had paid for that concert ticket.

He should also be calling out Toby Keith, John Rich, and Hank Williams Jr. for being political and partisan right wingers.

Adkins loses all credibility when he states that he sings country songs.

No, he sings country, just not YOUR kind of Roots/Americana country. Pop Country is just fine with the majority of us.

Wow!!! I thought Toby Keith admitted to being a registered democrat!!!

Then he should say what he means instead of misleading people. Of course Pop Country is just fine with the majority. That’s part of the definition.

Because as you know, MOST people DON’T differentiate one style of country over another, it’s just plain country. I’m not saying it’s right, or not valid, just the way it is.

RedMaZ, at least you’re consistent.:) I’m not giving you a hard time, but I wonder why you read the CMT blog if you hate the kind of music it promotes and represents. You seem to be one of the more avid readers on here. I tend to stay awayfrom sites for music that I really can’t relate to, which is why I ask.

cmt.com, and the cmt blogs feature more than just Pop Music. Almost everyone I listen to is featured here. Also there are blogs outside of the Pop industry. I visit many blog sites, web sites, articles, reviews, etc. It’s what I do. I feel if I take the time to listen to music, I have every right to comment on it. Just as you do.

Ah, I never meant to suggest that you don’t have a right to comment here! I’m certainly not territorial of CMT’s blog by any means. I was just wondering, because I notice many of your comments focused on pop country oriented blog posts here.

Many of my comments are focused on the rest of today’s Country too(and beyond). The first thing I refuse to do is limit myself. You never know what you like, or don’t like unless you listen to it. You have just as much right to comment on Roots music as I do on Pop music, and vise-versa, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve never seen an “Anonymous” comment.

I love Trace Adkins. He really represents himself and country music so well. He is one of the best, in my opinion, in country music. I love his voice and all of his songs. Plus, it doesn’t hurt any that he is so darn goodlookin.

If we are calling people out lets not forget the dixie chicks. I believe everyone knows they started alot of the junk.

But I agree, I don’t care what your beliefs are I just want to hear music.

But I do love here things about supporting our troops. I wish more of our country music stars would get there behinds over to where are boys and girls are.. They need to know that we ALL support them.
