Reese Witherspoon's a True Country Fan

Posted: November 13th, 2008 at 6:27 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Reese WitherspoonWhen Reese Witherspoon acted all overjoyed at being back in her hometown of Nashville to present an award at the CMA Awards, I thought, "She's probably just acting." But then I read that she had taken her daughter, Ava, to a Carrie Underwood concert when she was at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last week. So, clearly, it was not an act. Maybe growing up in Tennessee cemented her status as a true country girl. Or maybe it was immersing herself in the June Carter Cash character in Walk the Line. Whatever it is, though, she was the perfect choice as the CMA's token Hollywood celeb presenter who was born in the U.S.

I’m not much of a Reese Witherspoon fan, but I do think she is sincere.

Ok, ok ok…I’ll admit it…I kind of liked Sweet Home Alabama…(even though they glorified the immoral character traits of some characters.)

All in all, I’d say she’s a breath of fresh air in an otherwise smelly theatre.

(And if you’re the FBI reading this…No…I’m not literally trying to sniff Reese Witherspoon, nor am I trying to stalk her…so go read another blog…)

I loved her in “Man In the Moon” when she was like 12 or something. She did a great job as JCC too- she’s a cutie!

So how does Reese taking her daughter to a Carrie Underwood concert have anything to do with proving she likes “country” music? Unless you are using the CMA’s definition that is…..

Rick, it’s probably more of the fact that she listens to country music on a regular basis, and presents country cultural values on the silver screen…(at least she does sometimes.)

I know this doesn’t concern Reese, but everyone should go see Carrie in concert, that girl is amazing live. I seen her in San Diego last week. She should be nominated for entertainer of the year for the ACM Awards next year. Seriously! see her in concert one of these days. One of the best concerts I have been to this year.

Are you not open to new things, why wouldn’t you go and see a Carrie concert? maybe it would solidify all the negative things that are said of her. Or are you worried that it might actually be a good concert and all the nay sayers are wrong, which I assume would be yourself. I am the farthest from a Kenny fan but my sister wanted me to go so I went why turn down a night of fun, cause whether I like him or not I was sure there was fun to be had. So I went and I am still not a fan of his, I enjoyed his many openers almost to many it could be lalapaloooza instead of a Kenny concert, but I can say he sure does work hard and that is something I couldn’t say about him before.

Going to a concert doestnt mean anything, being who you are and the values you show are what makes you who you are and people can see if your sincere or not, Reese seems to be sincere as far as i can tell because this is not the first time she has been seen at the cma’s

I heard that Reese and Kenny hooked up after the show.
That would be nice because I think shes a nice girl.
But Kenny needs to leave the movie stars a lone!!

I thought Reese did an awesome job in “Walk the line”. Whether or not she is a country girl and fan, is hard to define now days. Language with it’s definitions are constantly changing and re-defined. Country music started out as a WAY of life not some genre or style of music. Country music was born from America’s backcountry rural farm and rancher type people, not city folk. The roots of country music came from hard working people who were generally poor and had little or no entertainment but to sit in the shade after a long hard days work on the front porch or wherever and express his or her soul of ordinary country life lived everyday in the form of music. Most of the instruments used back then were homemade guitars, fiddles, banjos, mandolins, and what not. Over a period of time, music of this nature developed into a genre or style and became very popular.

Now days just because someone produces a certain sound or style, they feel they are country. The problem is… that certain sound has evolved over the years into something entirely different than it’s roots, not only the music but also the lyrics. Country music no longer is clearly defined as country. There has always been a rift and lack of understanding between country people and city people. Country people feel they are more closely in touch with the land and therefore feel more of a simple down home connection with nature and the earth. City folk commonly do not have the same connection with the country way of life and therefore do not feel or express their souls with the same style of music. Consequently, Country music and city music were mostly very different in the lyric style as well as musical score. Now that most feel it’s all about the style or genre instead of a way of life, the true definition of country music has been lost. Genre’s and musical categories are subject to constant change…not so with the country way of life. The country way of life and it’s people change very slowly if at all.

Because of this, the genre or style of country music has changed dramatically as more and more city people have gained access to the country music industry. It takes lots of money to produce music and push it over the air waves. City people seem to have more of the green stuff so naturally the style of country music has been altered by people who were born in the city and have very little real connection with the original grass roots country music sound. Like it or not, this is the TRUE story about whether or not this or that person is COUNTRY!

If you have to do it, you might as well do it right.
