Will Tim McGraw Be SNL's New Garth Brooks?

Posted: November 10th, 2008 at 12:26 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Tim McGrawIt's been announced that Tim McGraw would be hosting Saturday Night Live on Nov 22. This will be his first appearance on the show. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks have all done it, but in my memory, Brooks was the standout. His late ‘90s appearances were some of my favorites, and not just for his musical performances. He seemed to have the comic timing and delivery of the show's regulars. Especially when it came time for him to play a struggling musician who reluctantly decides to sell his soul to the devil -- portrayed by Will Ferrell. I hope the current writers can do the same with McGraw and give him some really solid roles to show the world his talent runs a little deeper than most country singers.

Looks like it will be a slow weekend for SNL. THe weekend before Thanksgiving. everyone will be traveling and all of the “Real Stars” have taken a vacation. This is the only person they could find for the Saturday Night before Thanksgiving. Good Grief. Take a vacation SNL. You deserve it with the Great Pre Election Coverage. You can’t top those ratings.

I won’t be watching that’s for sure. I never understood why Tim gets so much attention. I’d rather see Dolly Parton host again. She’s a Hoot. He must be the only one available to host for a a Holiday weekend.

    Tim can’t compare to Garth.

I can’t wait to see Tim . . . He has a good sense of humor and is great with one liners. Hope the writers provide good skits to go along with Tim’s humor. He is so down to earth and is not afraid to “poke” fun at himself like so many bloggers and other entertainers refrain from doing. Also, I thought the holiday weekend was the following weekend . . . not Nov. 22!

Tim isn’t afraid to try new things which is one of the reasons his fans love him so much . . . Good Luck Tim!

Do we really have to stomach anymore Tim news? Who cares if he is on SNL. They probably could not find anyone else dumb enough to host on a pre -Holiday week. With Amy Poehler on Maternity leave and Tina Fey not doing any more appearances, the show will tank once again.

How hard up was SNL to find someone to host this show. The party is over for them. SNL made history during the election. Now, it’s more of the same.

This is awesome news for Tim fans. I don’t know why anyone would question why they would want Tim McGraw to host the show. Holiday or no holiday, the guy has many multi-platinum albums, too many honors to mention, 33 #1 singles and appearances in several movies. And, if you have seen him perform live, you know he is one of the best. I believe the largest grossing tour in country music history. Hell yes, you can compare him to Garth or anyone else. Tim has a great sense of humor and timing and will do great on the show. He is a great talent all around and is an awesome human being. One shouldn’t comment on someone they know nothing about. I will definitely be watching.

Dolly was GREAT when she hosted in’89…she did a hilarious skit where she was banished to the “planet of enormous hooters” where she was ridiculed over her small breasts…As usual, Dolly had the New York City audience eating out of her hands…Tims a great guy too, and he’ll do great!

If you’re hoping to hear Tim sing on SNL, you may be disappointed. The musical guests that night are rappers Ludacris and T-Pain; guess Taylor Swift wasn’t available.

I applaud Tim for what he did.
I thought they gave him 2 good skits. But he did a great job of hosting it. He looked hot too. Especially at the bar. But they could have given him better skits to work with.

Their were rumors that the show wasn’t doing well anymore, not sure if it was true. But you can tell, even the skits the other people had weren’t that great. I don’t usually watch this, because I had no interest.

But I would watch it again if Faith cam on or Tim came on again.

I think Tim is really an great singer. But there is no way he’s better then Garth Brooks. Garth is King og Country music for sure.No if’s or an’s about it.
