New Videos From Jake Owen and Kristy Lee Cook; Jimmy Wayne Revisited
Two new music videos made a starring appearance for the CMT New Music Video evaluation team this week. And an amended version of a Jimmy Wayne reel got its first look.
Artist: Jake Owen
Video: "Don't Think I Can't Love You"
Director: David McClister
The song and video are a slow, deliberate celebration of life's little pleasures. Jake and band perform it outdoors in a gritty urban warehouse district. Hard to describe, nice to look at.
Comments: "I love his voice on this." "The song is very good." "It's strange that she just kissed him on the cheek." "Well, I guess that is tame for a country video." "The story line wanders off sometimes." "I think overall it's a standout for Jake."
Artist: Kristy Lee Cook
Video: "15 Minutes of Shame"
Director: Erwin Brothers
Remember the famous Andy Warhol dictum that in the future everyone will enjoy 15 minutes of fame? Well, it's re-surfaced as the title of this song and video. And it depicts the narrator catching her love interest getting kissy-poo with a rival. Then she describes how she will banish him to his 15 minutes of shame. Complete with a right to the jaw.
Comments: "That's a fun, catchy radio song." "The video captures some of that, but I'm not sure it gets it all." "It does feel a little understated. But it's still fun." "I think that scene where she slugs him needs to be cut back a little."
Artist: Jimmy Wayne
Video: "I Will"
Director: Deaton Flanigen
Note: the video has been edited since this post was written. See the results in the update below.
Video opens with Wayne saying goodbye to his girlfriend who is off to the big city to become a famous model. But once she's modeling, the photographer doesn't like her and starts yelling at her! She calls Jimmy in tears, saying she's quitting. He tells her to "go back out there and show ‘em what you're made of!" So she does.
Comments: "It would be a lot better without any of that cheesy dialogue." "Yeah. Even if they just dropped the dialogue without changing the video at all, you would still know what's going on." "It's a good song." "It was actually a good video without the dialogue." "Models and singers are not good actors."
Update: The edits on the dialogue have been done, were applauded by the panel and the video goes to medium rotation on Nov. 10.
Consensus: The new Jimmy Wayne goes to medium rotation on Monday (Nov. 10), as does the Jake Owen video.

someone who knows says:
Jimmy Wayne’s has my vote this week.
RedMaZ says:
Those were painful to watch and hear.
CJ says:
I really like Kristy’s voice.
Verticle Horizon says:
Like Jake’s. Kristy Lee’s voice is good, nut the song is largely unoriginal. That’s just another annoying breakup anthem. get over it. Beating that dead horse to no end.
Kevin says:
RedMaz, why do you have to be so dramatic. If you didnt like the songs or videos thats fine.. but I doubt it actually caused you pain to listen to them.
Jimmy Wayne fan too says:
I love Jimmy Wayne too by the way “someone who knows” and I enjoy this song.
Daniel says:
I love the Kristy Lee video. It is great, fun and she has a great voice. As far as beating a dead horse, with one of the the leading causes of divorce being cheating, I think we could be getting allot more.
BruceW says:
OK, The punch is great. Good form, and you can tell she definately can deliver a good one, leave it alone, that’s character. I love this video. Wish she would one from Like my mother does
KAREN K says:
I liked them all–got a kick out of Kristy’s when she punched him–he deserved it!! I think I liked the first Jimmy Wayne video with the dialogue because it enhanced the song but either way its a great song and Jimmy is good-looking enough to get my vote same with Jakes video!!!
hollie thacker says:
I love the Kristy Lee Cook video. It needs to be played and showcased more on cmt. I think it is a #1 quality video. I hope she gets to walk the red carpet at the cma awards.
Jake Owen Fan says:
Ive only seen Jake’s and Jimmy’s videos so i wont comment on Kristy’s. Jimmy’s was disappointing. Very cheesy dialogue, storyline of a bad tv movie, Jimmy in front of lights. Its all been done before. I’m not a huge fan of the song to begin with but I think the video could have been much better.
Okay on to Jake. Big fan of his and his debut album. Had it in my car for months. I love his voice but this song just doesn’t do it for me. And whats with the hair and leather jacket? Were they trying to channel Elvis? I also didnt like the look of the woman cast as his “girlfriend”. Looking forward to his sophomore effort but I’ll be skipoing this track for sure.
All these good looking guys makes me wish there was a video for “Tangled Up” by Billy Currington. Now that’s a video I’d like to have seen made.
LeeLand says:
I didn’t mind the dialogue in the middle at all. I liked hearing Jimmy Wayne’s voice but it’s fine without it too. I also don’t agree with the comment that models and singers can’t act. I think Jimmy Wayne CAN act and the model in the video did a fine job too. The main thing is that “I Will” is a wonderful love song of great passion and heartfelt devotion and I really look forward to seeing it on CMT.
Debbie says:
Love Kristy’s video.Great voice,lots of fun,awesome punch.Gotta love!!!!!!!!!!the little cowgirl.
Derek says:
Who is the girl in the Jake Owen video. She reminds me a little of a young Shania Twain.
