Stagecoach May Be the Last of a Dying Breed

StagecoachIs it too early to start thinking about Stagecoach? Or as I like to call it, Spring Break Country-Style? Chesney, Paisley, McEntire, Lambert, Rucker, Cagle, Kid Rock, Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum don't think so. They're already booked for this late April country festival in Indio, Calif. (just a couple of hours east of Los Angeles). And with all the recent fest cancellations, Stagecoach may be our last chance to see country music in such abundance outside of the CMA Music Festival in Nashville. My gut tells me that with the economy the way it is, fans will be less likely to spend hundreds of dollars on two-day passes for events like this, making promoters less likely to book top tier talent. So I say, get it while you can. Tickets go on sale next week.

Maybe if tickets didn’t cost so much and artists werent getting so rich then maybe more people would go, but the asking prices for passes to things like this are out of reach for most.

Apparently you’ve never heard of the “Hardly Strickly Bluegrass Festival”, or the “Americana Music Association Honors and Awards”, or “Twangfest” or a little festival held in the the “Live Music Capital of the World”, known as South By Southwest.(SXSW)

Amen. I’m on that bandwagon too. Lets see how many big stars show up to Stagecoach if they don’t get payed. there are other festivals that aren’t too expensive and are good stuff. The big ones have to cancel because they can’t pay for them. A lot of artists need to put a pro bono concert or two where their “oh for the love of music” mouth is. Hey, it might just help those “average everyday, country guy/girl” images they parade to the magazines.

Oh, and Merlefest. Did I mention Merlefest? Just so you know, it’s not about Merle Haggard either.

i too agree with ya’ll above. but, i do love the fact that stagecoach has a $99 two day ticket that can be bought with layaway. i think they are actually in touch with the bad economy. last year the cheapest ticket was $180 for 2 days. and then they added a third day that was $80 more….. so cowboy kudos to the stagecoach folk that are trying to make it happen.

Now I can add another festival. The World United Music Festival and Radio Conference. Nov. 14, 15, 16, in San Marcos, Texas. 150 artists with 8 stages. Only $35.00 a day or $70.00 for a three day pass. Plus a portion of the procedes benifit the families of wounded soldiers overseas.
