SingStar Country for the Karaoke Diva in Us All
If you're a country music fan and love singing karaoke, then SingStar Country on PS2 might be for you. The game has 30 songs from artists like Alan Jackson, Johnny Cash, Martina McBride and Taylor Swift. You can play the game with two microphones, making it a fun choice for a party. I played it today along with some other CMT bloggers (getting the absolute lowest score, mind you) and can say that it is definitely an engaging, and at times hilarious, group activity. We sang Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman," Kenny Chesney's "Big Star," Jackson's "Chattahoochee," even "Pancho and Lefty" by Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard. Jewel and Jessica Simpson are in there, too. Afterward, some of us commented that it may be a better game for groups than Rock Band or Guitar Hero since the actual music video plays during the game rather than animation. Plus, those not playing don't have to listen to constant clicking of plastic guitar buttons, just suffer through questionable singing. You can sing solo or duet, battle an opponent or play in a pass-the-mic, hot potato mode. Learning is quite easy. Personally, I still prefer the guitar games, but that's only because I'm a horrendous "singer." This thing is a good time.

We shall be the judge of your singing skills. Post a video unless you are chicken…

After checking out the track listing, it does look like a fun set of songs - even a Keith Urban song (Days Go By). Hmmm!!! This may actually be the very first video game I’d ever put on my Christmas (or any gift) list!!
We have all the Guitar Hero versions, and Rock Band, AND the American Idol games, and our whole family enjoys them. But I’m really happy to see some country songs in a performance video game!
Amy says:
I got the game and actually just got done playing it, haha…already at singstar status of course, haha. buuut, where are Sugarland and Carrie Underwood?!!! I was SO mad they were not in there…they are some of my favorites!
Rachel says:
I am with Amy. I just viewed the track list and cannot believe the makers chose Jessica Simpson over Sugarland or Carrie Underwood. I won’t be getting this game, just because I am not into things like this. But I was still surprised to see the track list.
Ms. Feathers says:
Well, “natalie portman #1 fan”, “Ms. Feathers” my Secret Service Code Name… or wait, maybe it’s my Witness Protection name… I get them confused all the time… And since “natalie portman #1 fan” was taken, I thought “natalie portman #2 fan” would sound a bit copy-cattish. Just don’t tell Vinnie “The Tank” Corleone that I post here, okay?

I’m with Amy and Rachel. They made a big mistake not putting carrie underwood and sugarland on there. It is pretty much required to have carrie, feamale vocalist of the year for 3 years in a row, on singstar country. I highly doubt i’ll get this game now. I thought for sure they put carrie on there. For them to put willie nelson on instead of carie. I have to admit i was pretty disappointed with singstar pop too. I hope they make a singstar country 2 and put carrie’s best song on there. I was mad with the choice of taylor’s song too. They should have picked one of her new songs.
