A Quick Visit to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame
Last week, I was driving through northern Alabama, and happened to pass by the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in Tuscumbia, Ala. I stopped in, thinking it couldn't take very long to go through it. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of big country artists who hail from the Heart of Dixie. Personal highlights from the exhibit include a suit worn by Hank Williams (one of only four remaining, according to the display) and the first bus owned by the group Alabama, with the door wide open for tourists.
Other members of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame who are also in the Country Music Hall of Fame include the Delmore Brothers, Emmylou Harris, Sonny James, the Louvin Brothers, Sam Phillips and Tammy Wynette (who was born in Itawamba County, Miss., just barely over the state line). Of course, the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section gets some recognition in the Hall, as well as influential pioneers like Nat King Cole, W.C. Handy and Dinah Washington. And I was thrilled to see the stage costumes worn by the Commodores, one of my all-time favorite groups. The museum is hoping to eventually build a music venue behind the building, but in the meantime, you'll probably leave the Alabama Music Hall of Fame with quite a few famous songs rolling around in your head.

Did they mention that one of the suits owned by Hank is now in the hands of Marty Stuart? It was personally given to him by the late Don Helms. The one and only time I met Don, he told me about it. That was a wonderful day.

Big whoop! I’m waiting to see if anyone else thinks it is.

“Big Whoop”??? Have you been listening to Whoop-De-Do by Keith Gattis?
luvncountry says:
Never heard of him.
