When You Call Jessica Simpson, She Hears Hank
Call it a little musical self-affirmation. Jessica Simpson has her cell phone ringtone set to Hank Williams' "Hey Good Lookin'" right now. In fact, Life & Style Weekly magazine reports that that's just one of the classic country tunes she's rocking on her playlist. She may have a little Springsteen and Aerosmith in the mix, but it looks like the rest of her faves are some of country's finest. She likes "Just to See You Smile" by Tim McGraw because "it actually does end up making me smile." And "The Beautiful Lie" by Dolly Parton because "it just touches a certain place in my heart and reminds me of a certain someone." Then there's Willie Nelson's "Bloody Mary Morning" because, she says, "I think we've all had those Bloody Mary mornings." The last one on the list is about hatin' on all those cheatin' men out there: Shania Twain's "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?"

first of all jessica simpson doesnt know who she is unless she has a man by her side, whether its tony today and some other sucker later, men define her. the genre of music isnt the problem with her, the problem is she cant sing sure she sounds better then me or the average joe,but in the music industry where it counts with the pro’s she can not compare… she screams her songs and forces her voice to the point it really is painful to watch and hear “no joke”. she did have a accent a small texan accent, but now all of a sudden she is over doing her twang…she says lawf(life) and nawce(nice) and much much more ridiculous word for her so called twang…its not even real…she looks like an idiot.shes rude to paps, always looks like shes having a bad day,i mean seriously what worries does she have she has nice homes,cars, her family is taken care of she goes on vacations that some people can only wish, she is famous and thats what she wanted so the paps comes with the territory…stop whining and deal with it.she changes her persona for men. she’s a ditz who got famous because of a few comments she said she never got famous for her so called talent. she jealous envious catty girl and will put people down if it makes her look better…on radio for something silly.thats a few reasons why people slam her because she is FAKE and a wannabe country singer, and i wish CMT would please stop playing her music, we want to hear real talent please CMT please do us a favor a play people who can really sing because country fans do not accept her…65k is not impressive look up real singers and what they make in a week…and tell me if thats impressive

Cricket on Froggy, I was just thinking the same thing. I can always remember hearing her southern accent. Another thing,I’m sure Willie and Dolly have all the control when it comes to their career. I don’t think they are simpletons. I doubt they are going to support Jessica unless they believed in her. People are always dogging her for not being able to make her mind up about her music. Is she pop, country, etc. I think this is just an excuse to hate her. There are plenty of artists who start out in one and for whatever reason head to another. WHO CARES!!! People change or reinvent themselves all the time. If she were ugly and couldn’t get a man then nobody would care.
P.S. Garth Brooks really couldn’t sing that great either but he was/is a great performer. It’s not always the best singers that make it. (I’m a huge Garth fan just stating the truth about his singing abilities.)

audrina, I don’t think your comments make you a hater. I really respect someone who can state their opinion without spewing disgusting comments. It just shows you don’t like her and you are totally entitled to your opinion. There are certain artists for whatever reason I don’t like either. I personally think she sounds good and it doesn’t bother me one bit how she dresses or talks. I do have something I’d like to share with you though. I ride horses and rodeo. I see alot of people who have never roped or barrel raced who want to. Some of those have lived in the city or just weren’t interested in horses before. Alot of people refer to them as “Wanna be’s.” Next thing you know they buy a pair of Wranglers, they buy a horse, they take lessons or what have you and then they are at a competition kicking your butt. Most importantly they are living their dream. My point is people change direction in their lives all the time. Just because you change the way you dress or your hobbies or your career doesn’t mean you’re a fraud. Just something to think about.

My point is the constant bagging on her for making this change to country or the way she dresses or her need for a man…. Really, what does that have to do with her singing? If a person doesn’t like her voice then that’s one thing all this other stuff is just nonsense. Also, if someone feels she needs to earn respect etc atleast give her the chance to do that. She’s not like my favorite female artist by any means but I like some of her songs and I just bought her new CD. For me (not everyone) I really liked it. The way she dresses is part of her videos and shows,so, just like her singing it is fair to critique it. If it is not fair for someone to say they don’t like her clothing, then it’s not fair for her fans to say they do like it.
She makes her need for a man part of her public persona by talking about it in shows and in interviews. If she only wants the public to comment on her singing, then she should keep quiet about her personal life and just sing.

What people like Rosebud forget, is that music isn’t just about asthetically pleasing notes and lyrics…it is the expression of an entire culture.
Lately, these sorts of “cross overs” are being “foisted” on country fans in what I am forced to call a “war” against our culture.
If Ms. Simpson wants to sing country, then great! Let her do it organically…not because of a marketing ploy dreampt up by some VIACOM aide.
(I personally think she is doing this organically…but that her wish to sing a little country is being exploited for market gains by her producers.)
