Men’s Health: Don’t Fear Country Music

Posted: October 20th, 2008 at 9:45 am  |  By: Craig Shelburne

Merle HaggardMen’s Health doesn’t want you to be afraid of country music. Here’s what it says in its October issue: “Your snobbery betrays ignorance. Some of the greatest songs in the North American canon have come out of this genre. Also, if you think you have problems, just listen to some Merle Haggard. You’ll feel a lot better.”

Once you’ve overcome your issues with country music, the magazine insists that tea, snuggling and small dogs are worth considering too. Yet, somehow I can’t see the Hag cozying up on the couch with a chai latte and a Chihuahua.

Did you know Merle is an animal lover and has had many chihuahua’s? I guess you didn’t, but it’s true. For example, just take a look at his album cover on “The Best of The Best of Merle Haggard”. He’s holding one of his little friends on it. He also had a picture of one of his chihuahua friends laminated on the headstock of one of his guitars.

I bet our chi is bigger than his chi. Tino’s my hubby’s pooch first, then ours.

Merle’s most loved dog was named Tuffy. In fact he named his guitar the Tuffy Telecaster in memory of that dog. He has it’s picture on the headstock of the guitar.
