Emily and Eric's Big Redneck Wedding

Posted: October 20th, 2008 at 5:00 pm  |  By: Kim Sorensen

Emily and EricEmily and Eric were married on CMT's hit show My Big Redneck Wedding. They share the story of their big day.

Eric and I decided to do things a little differently for our wedding because we have been to so many weddings that were, well sorry to say, boring. Plus, we have been together and lived together so long that we thought what does it matter anyway? After all, it was just a piece of paper to us!

So I started planning. I had hoped to put my bridesmaids in Mossy Oak camo dresses but all I could find was lingerie at Glendive's local Ace Hardware, so I went with it. What could it hurt, it was cheap and I knew a few seamstresses! I had hoped to put the men in Hunter's orange vests and ties but I couldn't find any one who carried the right color until I walked into a magic shop! Of all places this magic shop had Mossy Oak vests and ties, so how could I turn that down?

My mother was a florist at one point in her life, so I gave her Eric's giant tub of deer horns and random critter skulls! And to my surprise, everyone just loved the bouques and centerpieces! In fact Eric's aunt stopped at the house not long after the wedding and snagged a couple of my centerpieces to decorate her house with!
For our cakes my husband Eric was eating at Billings local Soup and Such and happened to see the owner making a cake to look like a deer. So he dragged my mother and myself down there to look at her cake making abilities. They were awesome! Eric had his cake made to look like an Elk and I had mine made to look like log slices held up by beer cans instead of tiers! Of course my mother didn't think that was the greatest idea but after all it was my wedding!

As for the wedding itself we had tons of redneck games like bobbing for pig's feet and toilet seat horse shoes! Heck we even had people doing Keg stands! We had a slip and slide for the kids which of course looked like too much fun and had to try myself! I was right, WAY too much fun! Eric's Father's band Plum Blue was nice enough to play through the day for us. They play mostly oldies and a few original songs. Needless to say people were more than disappointed when we had to shut them down for the actual DJ to start playing for the evening dance. He was the only thing that didn't go well. We shut him down after about an hour of playing. He even tried to do the dollar dance and I (the bride) wasn't even in the building!! Who does that!?

All in all it was a long but more than fun day! People loved being able to come and go to the wedding as they pleased. Especially when it was 98 degrees outside! To anyone who is thinking about a redneck wedding, despite what people might say to you while you are planning it, it is more than a good idea!

I loved your wedding. I will be having a redneck as some people call it wedding next year in the Mossy Oak Theme. I loved your cake the most. I saw one picture of it and I wish I could see more pictures because that was such an awesome design that I think people here would love to see a cake like that. Thanks for the great advise I have already heard what some people think of how I am planning it but it only happens once (I Hope) and I want it to be the best wedding anyone has ever gone too. I am planning on having the grooms cake to be a big ole catfish. Thanks for the great show and good luck in your marriage! :-)

Your wedding was really neat!!! Your ideas were very creative. Would you be able to send a pic or some instructions on the barbed wire and cope roses? I make barbed wire wreaths and thought that would be neat to try something a little different.

Hey every one! For those still looking for the roses I have started selling them on ebay! I am just testing the waters right now so if the lots that I have put up don’t sell I prob. will stop selling them there! If they do sell I will be putting up quite a few more lots!
