LeAnn Rimes Says Jessica Simpson’s Got the Assets
It was just one little quote. But it shows what a good sense of humor LeAnn Rimes has about her comrades in country music. When asked if she thought Jessica Simpson could be the next Dolly Parton, she told Spinner magazine, “She’s got the assets already. She’s got one thing going for her!” I just hope that wasn’t a knock against the much-loved Parton and that Rimes was trying to be funny. And that she didn’t mean that the only thing Simpson had going for her is her boobs. Because coming from the petitely-built Rimes, that’d just be sour grapes.

countryfan11 says:
Rimes has nothing to worry about -she can sing circles around Simpson ANY day- and I’m sure she has great respect for Dolly so I doubt she was dissing her. Simpson’s “front line” IS her best asset, can’t say much for anything else.
Kim says:
I agree. she was being funny. Dolly makes cracks like that about herself all the time. my favorite was the one about having to rest those “assets” on bongo stands!
tmz says:
That quote was taken from an on-the-street interview TMZ did with LeAnn. I watched it and thought LeAnn was charming…she was even nice to the paparazzi. No “sour grapes” at all. She’s a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice. She has no reason to have sour grapes.
If you follow Alison’s link to Spinner Magazine, it eventually ends up at the video.
RedMaZ says:
Seems like she could afford a nicer car though. That one is all rusty.
Gina says:
Hmmm, well Simpson may share Dolly’s plastic assets but she certainly can’t match her real ones, like her talent.
Jenny says:
Im sick of the name Jessica Simpson. Lee Ann puts her under the table and so does Carrie and everyone else for that matter. I saw the TMZ video and LeeAnn was out walking with her husband in good spirits and had wonderful words for Dolly and was nice as “possible” about Jessica.
Vicki S. says:
I agree with Jenny. Wouldn’t it be great if we never heard Jessica’s name anymore or her voice!
RedMaZ says:
Is someone forcing you to listen? Are you in the Jessica prison? Are you in solitary confinement in the Simpson cell? Maybe someday you’ll have the freedom to listen to whomever you chose like I do. Stay strong. I wish you the best of luck. How long are you in for?
aubrey says:
leann respects dolly clearly dolly is an icon already and i don’t think leann would try to put dolly down, leann is classy. as far as jessica goes i don’t think she is fond of her so she handled the question very well.all jessica has going for her is her boobs it’s why she’s famous she cant be famous certainly not for her poor vocals. leann, carrie, martina can sing circles around jessica any day jessica stands out like an amateur when put in this category with these women who can really sing! i don’t leann or any respectable country artist have respect for her artistically they may be nice and wish her the best because there classy, but she is a joke…everyone knows that she’s pretending to be country to earn respect, since it has been 10yrs and she’s still struggling, leann is younger and has been in the biz for along time too and she is so successfull carrie has only been in the biz for 3 years and already has sold more records won more awards then jessica what does that say it says they have amazing talent and jessica is and always will be a wannabe singer.
tina says:
I like Leann’s sense of humor. she was not putting down dolly or jessica. Everyone knows the only reason why jessica simpson is famous is because she showed off her boobs in men’s magazines. That is all she is about. Jessica simpson has no singing talent at all. I put her on a par with miley cyrus.
RedMaZ says:
I never hear her or see her unless it’s my choice. I’m sorry to hear about you lack of will power. I guess I live a different lifestyle. For one thing, I’m not a slave to mainstream Pop culture. When it comes to that, I’m a nonconformist and an insurgent. I like to have control of my surroundings, instead of my surroundings controlling me, and in this instant gratification world, that’s when I can dig deep inside myself, and benefit from any knowledge I’ve absorbed. But that’s me.
RedMaZ says:
Everytime I see that picture of her(above)…it freaks me out! It looks like her hand is her….well you know. Lets just say…not her hand.
Bianca says:
Leann Rimes was just trying to be nice by saying the only thing that dolly and jessica have in common is big boobs. She was just try to find a nice way to say that Jessica will never be on the same level as Dolly Parton. Jessica is only famous because her dad is the one who operates her business and PR operations. Jessica just sits around with her shirt undone and boobs hanging out.
Steph says:
Anyone remember that Dolly had part in Jessica’s album? I think that was the connection Leann was making. and it was funny.
countryfan11 says:
Jess can’t compare with the other female artists. I can ALMOST handle her singing if I don’t have to watch her twitching and herky jerky movements. Her biggest asset
IS her looks & chest (just ask my son). I’m sure daddy’s
promos don’t hurt either. RedMa must need new prescript glasses, I can see it’s her hand just fine.
BigMouth says:
maybe leann’s worried about the state of her claim in country music. look at carrie underwood: industry loves her, and they make damn good and sure if you dare criticize her you get the treatment faith hill did at whatever awards show that was, as Wy when she said she was “vanilla”, as Leann did when she took up for Faith. I think she’s worried (and rightfully so) that the industry is going to forget her and all the work she does because of all these easy to manufacture, cookie cutter artists. If she doesn’t like the crossovers and Al alum for what they stand for, fine. she has every right to do so, and i agree with her.
Kim says:
I was on here yesterday night, and there were a lot more posts than this. does anyone else think CMT’s been deleting things?
RedMaZ says:
To Rita. LeAnn, Jessica, Carrie, and Dolly are all Pop singers. Dolly of course has done some Roots music projects, but in the overall picture she’s a Pop music singer.
Kevin says:
RedMaZ, you are right about them being POP singers. You constantly put people in their place for saying one thing is pop and one is country. Yes, the country music played on mainstream country stations is pop country. Because is is popular! But, when people say one artist sings country and one sings pop or whatever the case might be…I think they say that because while its all POP…you still have radio stations that are known as either country stations or pop stations, and there is a difference in the music that is played on each one. So, when an artist or song has been primarily played on a radio station that calls itself a pop station then that artist or song is labeled as pop. Then when an artist that is known for being on pop radio decides to be marketed to the country radio audience, then they are a pop artist that is going to country…even if it is pop country. You have a point but I think you are being too literal about it and acting like nobody knows what they are talking about except you.
RedMaZ says:
Hi Kevin, thanks for the reply, however I’m just telling like it is. In this case I like dealing with the facts. From what I hear of Pop radio stations, the bottom line is there is no difference. Pop music is an industry not a specific genre, so an act crossing over from “Pop” to “Pop Country” isn’t much of a difference. The music may be a little bit different, but the definition is the same. A true crossover artist would have to go from Roots to Pop, or vise versa, wouldn’t you say?
Kevin says:
Exactly what i was saying.. even though there might not be much of a difference going from “pop” to “pop country”, there is still a difference, and the words “pop” and “country” are just words that are used to describe the two. Whether it be the most correct words or not, that is the way they are used by most people. If its played on a country station people call it country, if its played on a “pop” station people call it pop. And it doesnt take an idiot to use the words in that way. Whether they are right or not, those are the terms that are the accepted way of describing the particular music. “Pop” stations play the music that is the MOST popular among the widest audience. So that in my opinion is why that music is labeled as simply “pop”
Steph says:
So Kevin, RedMa, got a list of suggestions of real country (no pop country) artists?
RedMaZ says:
Once again, Pop Music is an industry not an induvidual genre. Pop music whether it be Rock, Hip Hop, Rap, Country etc. is music with general appeal to the masses that is overproduced and overplayed for profit. This seems to be quite difficult for people to understand. Ironically Pop Music fans have the most trouble with this. It basically boils down to this…Pop Music or Roots Music.
To Steph, If you are interested in some of todays Americana/Roots Country artists, I’ll be glad to help you with some suggestions.
Steph says:
Great! how bout it?
Kevin says:
You are still missing my point. I understand your reasoning that its an industry not a genre. However, to pretty much everybody else but you..pop is a genre as well as an industry. pop is a word that is used to describe the music that is played on radio stations that call themselves pop stations. You can tell people 10 million times that “pop is an industry, not a genre” you arent changing peoples mind. As far as pop music being music that is overproduced and overplayed for profit…i think that is just your opinion. If music was my job i sure as hell would hope it was making a profit. Also how is it being overplayed when people are requesting it…that tells me that people always want it to be played more. So here’s a question, what is the number 1 song on the roots charts this week? Whatever it is, it is Pop Roots. Right?
Steph, to me, Pop Country is REAL country and so is anything else that is close to country and wishes to be known as country. Country is country to me. So yeah, the real country artists i like are Brad Paisley, Tracy Lawrence, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, George Strait, Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, Gretchen Wilson and more.
countryfan11 says:
I’m with you Kevin, I really don’t give a hoot what it’s called, it’s country to me. I like all your artists, plus Pickler, Wynonna, Dolly, Tracy Byrd, B&D, MG, John Michael
Montgomery, Leanne, Carrie, John Anderson, LBT, Martina, Faith & Tim, etc. etc. They are COUNTRY to me and that’s all I care about. RedMa can take his/her country “Roots” and plant them somewhere else.
RedMaZ says:
Steph, thanks for taking an interest in the rest of todays music scene. Here are a few suggestions for you.
Dale Watson, Roger Wallace, Two Tons of Steel, Kevin Fowler, Sara Hamilton, Danielle Talamini, Wayne Hancock, Kasey Chambers, Duncan Earl Walters. You could also check out some Texas/Red Dirt artists, like Reckless Kelly, Stoney LaRue, and Modern Day Drifters. Since Americana/Roots music makes up about 90% of todays music scene, these are just a few suggestions. If you are interested in more, please let me know.

leann and jessica shouldn’t even be in the same sentence. leann is a talented, successful artist she has earned the respect in the music industry she has sold so many records and won so many awards…she has so many fans, she is a class-act,she didnt become famous because of some ditzy comments she said on a reality show.jessica’s music career failed she wasn’t successful like britney in pop, jess was in her shadow, and same with country she isn’t good enough to outshine anyone in country, and to be compared to miss dolly parton is ridiculous they may share the same bra size but thats about all they share.
travis says:
Leann Rimes is an insperation to all. she has done more things and acomplished more things in the past few years then most singers have done in there whole life. I have bin to Leann’s concerts and she is an amazing performer. So to say she is worried about the indistry ,she has nothing to worrie about. Leann You just keep doing what your doing and youll always have my vote!!!!
