Hank III Hits the Nashville Honky-Tonks
I try not to ever miss a Hank III show, especially one that is free and at Layla’s Bluegrass Inn. Last night, the tiny Lower Broad venue was packed with people who love his quick, twangy guitar licks and hard-living songs as much as I do. I have never seen a club resemble an Old West saloon so much. Beer flew through the air and the crowd was rowdy, to say the least. Many were diehard fans wanting to hear his new material and others were just curious to see the grandson of Hank Williams. He did not disappoint with a set list that mixed old standards and songs from his new album, Damn Right Rebel Proud, out on Oct. 21. I have yet to hear it in its entirety but there are three tracks available on his MySpace page. I highly recommend seeing one of his shows but come prepared, they’re intense. A poncho might be a good idea.

He’s a crazed country rebel! Let’s put it this way…if you’re fans of Urban or Flatts…you might want to stay away from Hank. He’ll chew you up and spit you out, them dump beer all over you.

Just go to youtube and bring up some Hank III concert footage. That pretty much says it all, only not as loud as live!

as a fan of country far & wide (yes, I’ll admit to enjoying a pop-country song now & again), give Hank III a shot! I am a die-hard fan & it just plain gets you in the mood to FIGHT! Shelton Hank Williams III is an inspiration to a lot of us, and should be to other musicians. His against the grain style has won over an ARMY’s worth of fans. He refuses to conform to pop country, and will be it’s demise. Pick up a six pack of beer, the collectors tin, and Damn Right and Rebel Proud you will not regret it
