Wynonna Sings Holiday Notes From Home

WynonnaI can't remember a holiday without the Judds. Last night, I had the true pleasure of seeing Wynonna Judd perform a Christmas special, Holiday Notes From Home: A Christmas Tribute for the Troops at the Grand Ole Opry House. Her mother Naomi even joined her onstage for a couple of the carols. I have to say, I was on a musical high when I left. Not only was I ready for Christmas, but Wynonna's voice sounded so beautiful, so strong, that I spent the rest of the evening with goose bumps.

Around the holidays, there are certain family traditions that my family always carries out. For example, Christmas Eve dinner is spent at El Rancherito, we'll laugh hysterically as to how my father is a mirrored image of Clark Griswold, and of course, Christmas Time With the Judds will be piped throughout the entire house from his dingy speakers. To this day whenever I hear the Judds, they still take me home.

But the Judds weren't singing through old and worn-out speakers last night and though I was there, they sure weren't singing just for me either. Instead, backed by the band of the Air Force Reserve and the Air Force Strings, they were singing for all of the soldiers that won't make it home for the holidays. (The concert will air on the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service later this year.) My only hope is that the Judds will take those soldiers home when they see this, even if only for a moment, like they did for me last night.

I saw Wynonna perform with a symphony a few weeks ago and had chills the entire time. She is definitely the perfect person to give the troops a taste of home at Christmas!

Wynonna truly has a powerful gift when it comes to singing. I also loved her music with her mother too. I will look forward to hearing this music as the holiday season approaches. At least I shall have something to look forward to instead of all the noise coming from Wall Street. Allowing us to read and hear your blogs Whitney takes us all away from the worries of everyday life. Thanks again…….

I hope mom doesn’t break her ankle and make the El Rancherito crew carry her to the table again hahaha. Nicely written Whitney!

Oh Whitney, I love to hear your stories and I especially loved this one. It’s nice to hear that everyone has some great old family traditions left for the holidays and what better way to usher them in than with Wynonna. She’s truly one of the greats!
