Kevin Costner Goes Country?

Posted: September 30th, 2008 at 12:03 pm  |  By: Chris Parton

Kevin CostnerKevin Costner tells People magazine that he and his band, Modern West, have a country album coming out this November and plan to tour late this year and into 2009. Costner fronts the band and says he and some of the members have been playing together for 20 years. There are some song samples on Modern West’s MySpace for you to check out, and the article says several songs will be available for country radio this week. He is far from the first movie star to make the jump. I really like Billy Bob Thornton’s work with the Boxmasters, but Costner caught me off guard a little. Then again, he was pretty cool in 3000 Miles to Graceland.

I really hope people keep an open mind about Kevin Costner. I have been crazy about him since I was a kid. I bet I saw Siverado a hundred times.lol. I heard he had an album coming out so I was thrilled to see this blog. I will definately be checking it out.

Hi again Rosebud. I had to laugh when I read this, but I’ve read for YEARS that Costner has had a band- with different names I think. Anyway, I too will keep an open mind. I love most of his movies- the baseball ones, Open Range, and can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Dances With Wolves. I think most people tho will just see him as someone trying to cash in on country’s “cool.” Hopefully some will actually give him a shot before they comment or condemn. If he’s good, he’s good, if he’s not, the #’s will show. Either way, he’ll get some attention. You & I seem to be on the same wavelength in a number of blogs. I just answered yours on the Tim McGraw one.

I love Kevin Costner and he could not be any worse than a washed up pop star who’s album is going nowhere and forgets the words to her songs. She also forgets to use her new country twang when she sings or talks. SO FAKE!!! However, I am tired of so many “want to be country artist” trying to push themselves on us. Makes you want to turn the channel or turn the radio off when their songs are playing. Think I will do that!!!!!

Well countryfan11 let the bashing begin. Just as I suspected people want to put artists into one category. If you are a good singer sing, if you’re a good actor act, if you’re good at both do both. What’s the problem? As for trying to push themselves on us, we buy their albums or we don’t. We control their destiny!!!!! Again I say what’s the problem.

Amen to that Rosebud. If I don’t like it, I won’t buy it just because I like him in a movie. I don’t like Jessica Simpson and will NEVER buy her CD, but that is MY “choice.” I’m less bothered by artists wanting to be country than if they’re GOOD. For example, I could never have told you what Darius Rucker sang as leader of Hootie and the Blowfish, but I like the sound of his voice in his debut country single, so I may want to listen to more of him. It’s personal preference.

So, like it? Buy it. If not, don’t. Simple as that.

WOW! Can’t wait to get this one! My mom and I (especially my mom) Love Kevin Costner. I saw where he was in Durham, NC July 4 of this year for the “Bull Durham” anniversary, but we were not able to make it. I think Kevin should do a duet with Josh Turner since Josh is a big fan of his. It could happen because Randy Travis did an awesome duet with Clint Eastwood. Anyways, looking forward to this album!

i’m with countryfan11 and rosebud on this! love Silerado! he and glenn campbell are so great together. it seems like he’s doing this for fun because he’s passionate about it. no problem there for me there. he’s not trying to salvage his career, he’s not trying to get press time. he’s just kevin being kevin and having his usual good time.

Costner is not going country. If you took the time to visit his myspace page, he lists his music as Rock/Roots Music/Americana. As far as Billy Bob…Look for the Boxmasters CD to receive a Grammy nomination.
