Waylon Jennings Album Finally Completed by Shooter Jennings

Waylon JenningsWaylon Jennings has a new album due out Oct. 21 on Vagrant Records. Waylon Forever is a collaboration between him, his son Shooter Jennings and Shooter's band the .357's. The project started in back in 1995, but was only finished recently when Shooter went back into the studio to record tracks to underscore his late father's vocals. The first single is an updated version of "Lonesome, On'ry and Mean" and, for a limited time, you can listen to it free on CMT.com.
The new track is decidedly Waylon, but as a fan of Shooter I can say the production is distinctively his. It becomes fuller, smoother and reflects the southern rock gun-slinging that is on all of Shooter's albums. Just listen to the guitar solo at the end and you might think it goes beyond that even. Waylon's voice warbles slightly, probably just from so much use, but there is an element of joy that comes through and I suspect it has something to do with working with his son. This is the type of project that every father wants to take on.

I haven’t heard more than the one single Shooter had that played on radio but I liked it, I also enjoy Waylon, Willie, and the Boys, so I imagine this one will be one to enjoy.

That remake of Lonesome Onry & Mean is sick. Shooter did his father proud.

Gave it a listen. Dissappointed to say the least. Waylon was a great songwriter and performer. His son is basically trying to out outlaw his dad, and that dog won’t hunt hoss! The production of this album is just the dumbing down of Waylon, so sad to see it happen. But then again I’m just an over the hill country rocker who thinks true talent doesn’t have to use four letter words to make up for a lack of talent. Just the same as great guitar pickers don’t need a multituse of effects to sound good.
