Dolly Parton Documentary Is Open Book

Posted: September 24th, 2008 at 1:46 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Dolly PartonDocumentaries are for film snobs. But this one is more of a Dollymentary. Canadian Filmmaker Natasha Ryan is the one behind The Book Lady, and says the contradiction of Dolly Parton having a literacy project was massive. But once she got to know Parton's Imagination Library project better, she ended up making a film about everything Parton is doing to get books into kids' eager hands early. Keith Urban and Miley Cyrus have roles in the film, too. And there's even a few seconds of a kindergarten-aged Dolly running towards the camera. The film debuted at last weekend's Atlantic Film Festival.
