garrett says:
GREAT VIDEO FOR A GOOD CAUSE!!!
Kimi says:
OK, i like and respect Carrie and Miley. Just stand up is a great thing to be part of, but why wasn’t Leann Rimes mentioned in the headline the same way they were? Why does CMT not want to mention Leann?
Ali says:
Because Leann did not perform on the show, just the recorded version.
Diann says:
so what? she’s still part of country music i thought. (more than miley for sure)
Valerie says:
She was sick and not able to perform. Yes they should give her equal treatment. Not just to their favorites of the month.
Steph says:
why didn’t they mention she was sick and couldn’t preform? that should have been a headline of its own.
Valerie: “favorite of the month”? don’t you mean favorite of the last few years?
Emma says:
WOW! This is a phenominal song with an even better meaning! It’s so great to see so many wonderful artists from differnet genres and completly different worlds come together for such a great cause! You don’t see many famous people that will take time to do something so special for something that’s good. Wonderful blog Whitney. :)
Caroline says:
I think Miley cyrus sounded horrible!
lauren says:
I can’t believe you people. Here we are listening to a song that has a wonderful meaning that people die of everyday, and all you have to say is how come leann rimes wasnt mentioned. Thats really sad.And now your talking bad about another artist who was apart of it. that doesnt make sense to me.
Steph says:
hey don’t pull that lauren. i had my grandad, my my grandmother and my confirmation sponsor all die of cancer in my lifetime (i am 19!!) my other grandad and a good friend of my mom’s are survivors. i was pulling for leann rimes to get the credit she deserves as a part of this thing “that has a wonderful meaning”, not diminish the message of the song. it hit home with me too.
i was agreeing with previous posts. i looked at this blog in the first place to read about country acts participating and as a huge leann fan i was disappointed because i didn’t think she was given the proper credit for being part of Stand Up.
Steph says:
Sorry, got a little emotional about the Leann thing. Garrett and Emma have the right idea. thanks you two!
and of course Whitney for promoting the video in the first place.
selena says:
i love carrie and leann both are crazy talented i too was disappointed not to see her there however regardless of how great or bad they sound…they are standing up for a cause that effects all of us in some way…so my respects goes out to all of them who participated in this…..
miley hater says:
i had a friend who died of cancer but even then, i think that miley cyrus shouldnt be here!people like rihanna, carrie, mariah, fergie, leona lewis and so on have got good, poweful voices and as for miley,,, its her annoying lil girl voice which i dun even consider singing…OH MAN’!WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO?!?PEOPLE EVEN CONSIDER SOMEONE LIKE MILEY CYRUS TALENTED!look people!please find more good singers if you really want this cancer thing to be spread…dun get people like miley just for the sake of popularityOH, AND FOR GODDNESS SAKE,,,JUST GO BACK TO DOING HANNAH MONTANA, MILEY CYRUS!
sayyyruhhh says:
LMAOOO im laughing soo hard at these comments lmao wooow you people are soooo freaking stupiddd except for this ‘laurn’ person or whatever… lmaoo hahah WOOW u people are RETARDEDDDDDD hahah whoo the freaking hell caresss who the hell is singing it or how popular or unpopular they are, wow its a beautiful song and has ACTUAL freaking meaning unlike half the songs these singers sing, lol hahah that was funny
LeeAnn says:
I agree with the above comment…..COME ON….this is not the BLOG to voice your opinions on how a person sings or how talented they are. These artists were chosen based on their “celebrity” to hopefully get people to purchase the song, and watch the TV special, AND to donate money….they were trying to reach ALL age groups and genres…I think they did a wonderful job……and the amount of money keeps pouring in….I am quite sure that these women were more than honored to be a part of this and would use their celebrity status again, and again if it meant raising money for a great cause, regardless of whether everyone liked them as an artist or not!
Amy says:
Hey theres no need to get nasty. what good is these people’s “celebrity status” if the industry they work in doesn’t recognize them? it was a simple question that someone at the top asked innocently. you people are reading too much into it, and then letting the whole thing get out of hand. Someone (who apparently has a lot of personal interest in this program) just wanted to give THEIR favorite a shout out for participating. and then openly wondered why leann wasn’t mentioned as much. come on. This is a forum for discussion, and someone saw something they didn’t like and called it to other people’s attention. everyone agrees that this is a good thing to be part of, but the problem they saw was that not everyone was equally recognized for their work, which isn’t fair. thats all.
Steph says:
I guess anyone who dissents against the almighty Hollywood-country crowd gets branded “freakin’ stupid.” I guess i’d rather be freakin stupid than not stand up for someone and something i care about. thank you very little.
Child of the 90’s says:
sounds like country hospitality and freedom of speech/discussion at its finest on this one…yeesh…
i agree with Amy. and Steph, don’t let them get you down. I agree that this “very meaningful song” has a lot more meaning when you hear it from you favorite artist. ‘just stand up” to these people the best you can!
Riki says:
Hey everybody,i’ve got a great idea lets start a new controversy! Lets all get into a fight about how there seemed to be a whole lot more women than men!
i read above that L. Armstrong was there, but why is he (seemingly) the only guy? guys get cancer too ya know!!! I see a problem with this, i’m calling it to other people’s attention on a public blog, so i must be a petty, “freakin’ stupid” “retard”! but just the same, whats up with that? where was say Patrick Swayze? (sp)
I, seriously, do like and respect the artists involved in this. its a great thing to be part of, thanks for your time celebrities…blah blah blah…
i did buy the single and donate money to the organization, just so someone doesn’t start slamming me at 1 in the morning.
Kim says:
Just out of observation, why is it always (or nearly) the Carrie, Miley, Taylor Kellie fans that seem to have to most hateful posts on their blogs? their message boards are hard to read there is so much crap going on. go to the Jamey Johnson/Lee Ann Womack blog, and read what those people say. it never gets like this. Granted there are some disrespectful things, but the overall discussion is reasonable.
I agree with Amy. This is way blown out of proportion, and the posters at the very top were asking questions, not putting anyone down.
jdoe says:
Riki, Patrick Swayze was there. He was the first celebrity to speak on the televised portion of the show. And let me tell you, for someone who was supposed to only have a few weeks to live he looked exceptionally well, a little thinner than before, but it was great to see him looking as good as he did.
As for the song, the message was great, but I didn’t think it sounded that good. Everyone one of those artists was trying to make it their song and it sounded dysfuctional to me. That’s just my opinion, I really don’t care what anyone else thinks.
Riki says:
Sorry, i must have missed that part with PS. Still, i’d like to know where the guys were.
I agree with you about the song, maybe it would have been better to have each artist have their own version, or put them into groups of 4 or 5 maybe.
Summer says:
well I creid through all of it. I am a breast cancer survivor and only 34 years old. Life is to short and precious to fight and bicker over how someone sounded or who got credit for what. I’am more than gratefull to the artists and everone who did the show because they took time out of their life for someone like me. So THANK YOU!
LeeAnn says:
PERFECTLY said Summer!!! God Bless, take care, and hope you never have to fight the fight again!!! :)
JameyFAn says:
God bless Summer! you’re hope to all who are fighting now.
Steph-God bless you as well, that sounds hard.
I think its important to remember that this blog is only a really really tiny forum. None of us know each other, and a solitary comment shouldn’t be judged so harshly. i think everyone got emotional, especially over that sayyyruhhh and their comments. there is certainly no need for that kind of belittlement. That was just plan mean, i think especially after reading Steph’s comments, and then an admission that she was over-emotional, apologized and called attention to the cause of the program.
this is a public forum, and the fact that any stops to post at all means they read it and appreciated it.
Statistically speaking, everyone is affected in some way, so everyone has something to tell, and something emotionally invested here.
I think when reading a blog like this, on a music website, the overall approach to reading the story is different. The blogger was promoting country artists. Most people came here to read about the artists themselves, not the actual program. Solitary comments made after it are just that;the first thing that strikes a reader, that they then leave out in the open for others.
Read it again: there isn’t anything reported other than the song and its availability and a couple lines about the artists involved. You have to go elsewhere to get real details about it. This blog was to credit the artists.
Amy, you comments were great.
JSUTC isn’t all that new a deal. i heard about it through the last baseball all-star game in the bronx. there was a special there as well.
LORI says:
I think its a great cause to be a part of but Miley can’t sing to save her life. She’s horrible especially live!!! I think the head line should have at least put LeAnn in there too. Its not like Carrie and Miley were the only ones that were a part of it.
Lolly says:
I don’t think it really matters who sang the song. The only thing that matters is the fact that these people care about those who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Even if Miley doesn’t sound good at least she has enough heart to sing it. The words is what matters anyways.
countryfan11 says:
Kim, I have to agree with you in part. Some of the CMT message boards and blogs DO tend to get nasty. It’s like you’re not allowed to like more than ONE artist and THEIRS is the BEST- period. Frankly, it’s rather juvenile so you have to wonder about the age group that comments. I love Kellie, Carrie, LeAnne, and LOTS of artists, and don’t lay claim to one being best over the other. They are individual artists with individual talent, sounds and styles, and appeal to more than ONE person. It’s all a matter of taste and preference without bashing the others. btw, I love Jamie J too. I think the fans get more offended over injustices than the artists themselves.
Kim says:
Thanks. JameyFAn had some interesting things to say. i think they should post that on the blog homepage.
Amazing how editorialized this has gotten. We were talking about Standing up to cancer…
Yeah the fans do get more offended than the artists. The artists couldn’t get offended at every little thing or they wouldn’t be able to handle it. Other fans should realize this! ignore it!
The age groups thing could have something to do with it, but I have to wonder if it has more to do with the “crossover” type fans. not all are nasty i realize, but you have to wonder why they all seem to show up on say carrie’s board, and not josh turner’s.
BTW Lolly: this wasn’t just about breast cancer. it was about cancer of all kinds. Even Better! They care about everyone!
Kim says:
Hey Countryfan11, read your discussion with Steph on the Crystal Shawanda post. Good stuff.
You should host a board for people who enjoy good discussion.
Thanks, you’re great!
haley says:
I HATE MIEY SHES SUCH A NUT
countryfan11 says:
Wow, thanks Kim. I just made another comment on the other blog (Crystal’s)about the NW. btw, Kim is also my daughter-in-law’s name. You’ll have to check out my comment so you know what I’m referring to.
btw, Who are YOUR faves? It’s funny, I was just reading a CMT column about Kellie Pickler loving Jamey J and she tells everyone about him, has his CD playing in her car. Cool!
Kim says:
LOL. Steph, you’re goofy! “peroxide patrol!” “drown in all the rain!” haha! Great stuff you two!
I am a proud Brunette too! and i’m from tx! this could be fun!
My fav’s are Willie, Gretchen, Terri, Jo Dee, Leann, Taylor, the rascal’s, Jake Owen, Trent T, Miranda. i’m falling love with crystal s. too. lets see..sugarland (which is a town down here!) Jamey j., billy, Mont. Gentry, lots more.
I’m also into radio free tx, so guys like Pat Green, (I think sometimes we’d crown him king if we could!)Wade bowen, Stoney larue, the randy rogers band, joel hoffman band, south texas destroyers, brandon rhyder, cross canadian ragweed etc are on my playlist.
I like many different genres. like right now, while cruising Cmt’s site and i’m blaring nickleback!
But all in all, i’m really picky, i’m told. I like some crossover stuff, but not all. some people just go to far to be country. i’m not for revolutionizing country, but progress isn’t bad. I read an article on patsy cline that said critics said she was “too cosmopolitan” for country. but today, she’s one of the standards! I think music styles are progressive; they’re always changing. but ‘where do you drawn the line?’ is the big question.
Y tu?
Kim says:
oops… left out Whiskey Myers! big FAN!
Valerie says:
I like both Carrie and LeAnn. Sorry about my earlier comment. Just think there are alot of great female artists. LeAnn won Dove award last year. CMT has yet to post it. Carrie did a great job in her performance. Miley was kinda annoying. Like pretty much the rest of the performers sometimes. The cause was great. Sorry LeAnn could not make it.
Danny says:
Yeah, I think that whole thing above was more rooted in people getting sick of seeing carrie underwood all over the freakin’ place! i’m a fan -not a die hard fan, but i still like her music-and i’m sick of her! hello! there are other artists out there! i was in wal-mart the once, and she was on the cover of THREE different magazines AT ONCE!! and they were not tabloids! they were exclusive interview articles! its getting ridiculous! the past 3 CW magazines have managed to put her in there somehow as well. wish the industry would be a little more discreet about their favorites!
*deep breath* anyway…i agree with you about leann. wish she coulda made it! Great cause!
linda says:
CARRIE UNDERWOOD HAS BROUGHT SOMETHING GREAT TO COUNTRY MUSIC. I THINK ITS GREAT SHE HAS DONE SO WELL. SHE DESERVED TO TAKE PART IN THAT SONG AND SHE IS WELL DESERVED TO BE AS POPULAR AS SHE IS. EVERYONE BE HAPPY AND POSITIVE. THAT’S WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD TODAY– THERE IS TOO MUCH NEGATIVITY!
GermanChocolate says:
Other people deserve that same credit, Linda.
sprinkles says:
i think that the other singers should be recognized too because even though carrie underwood is a good singer and miley cyrus is ok, beyonce, keyshia cole leona lewis mary j blige ashanti maraih carey are all great singers, and just to put carrie underwood and miley cyrus in big font like there all that isnt right. just to recognize certin people isnt right because there are way greater singers in thats song then just them 2. but yes it is a really great song. the person i like the most in this song thoguh is beyonce mary j blige an leona lewis
Hannah says:
I think this song is great, mostly because it’s for cancer, but just the thought that ALL these people really care. In some places, that’s really hard to find. Great job to all of them(there is no favoritism on my part)!!!!
linda says:
why be down on carrie and miley? it’s not their fault the media and tv didn’t announce anything about leann and her part in the song!
Valerie says:
I never gave Miley a second glance.
jordyn barr says:
i was so happy when i found out carrie was gonna be on this song! thats the main reason i watched it. to see carrie :)
Emily Rochester says:
we should stand up to cancer i think every human should give atleast a dollar to the cancer society.
Lupita says:
Well to me this song sure has alott of meaning since my uncle died of cancer and my grandma has cancer and it doesnt matter who was mentioned and who wasnt its all for a great cause not for more fame for the people in the song.
ITS ALL ABOUT THE CHARITY PEOPLE says:
Alright whats up with people hating on Mailey Cyrus really get a life and stop hating everybody makes mistakes plus we should all remember its all for a good cause for real u people have problems
Juliee. says:
umm hi everyonee. :)
just out of curiosity, what do you think this song means?? the main reason of what the lyrics mean to you. and what lines in the song that are your favoritee.
DJ Nana @ Malaysia says:
The first time I heard the song, I thought it was a great song. Pointless for degrading everyone who sang the song as all of them ARE making more money than you & I combined. Whatever the case, the song was designed for a good cause. Everyone should play a part, not only the singers singing the song, but we all as citizens all over. Cancer is on the rise. The right mentality & attitude is to help the patients, not condemn any singers. No preferances for anyone, but accept everything with an open heart. Perhaps that would do better to all. Peace.
NaNz says:
seriously…. Miley screwed her part up… she should be performing for 13 year olds until her voice matures…. or until she has one. Singing next to Rihhanna and Beyonce didn’t do her much justice either. But good job on everyone elses part. Yeah Melissa rep the 808 well!!
MileyRules says:
What is with this hating on miley cyrus stuff?
Her pappy died of cancer and my poppa has cancer.
I think this is a great cause and the more people that do it the better
