Carrie Underwood, Boys and Dogs

Posted: September 18th, 2008 at 5:49 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Carrie UnderwoodSometimes new country artists get pigeon-holed. This one sings about redneck life, that one tackles the tear-jerkers, this one goes for the patriotic edge. But I'm glad to see that never happened to Carrie Underwood.

After her first two gigantic hits, "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Don't Forget to Remember Me," I thought for sure she was destined to be just another big balladeer. But then she surprised us all with two bad-girl moves: "Before He Cheats" and "Last Name." And now, after rediscovering her Carnival Ride CD in my car, I've determined that she is also very capable of nailing the novelty song.

"The More Boys I Meet" starts out like it might be just another looking-for-love song. But when she gets to the hook about the more boys I meet, the more I love my dog, I find that just as funny as it is believable. (Maybe because I have a dog I love the way she loves her rat terrier, Ace.) So exactly what kind of guys are turning Underwood off? The ones who are into cage fights, PlayStation, X-games, Raider Nation, oversize pants and egos to match. Any girl who has the unconditional love of a dog knows exactly what Underwood's talking about. Sure, there's someone out there for everyone. But it's kind of hard to find the perfect guy when you have a perfect dog as your benchmark.

Even though she didn't write it, I think songs like this one demonstrate that an artist has a sense of humor. And any time you can show off another side of your personality, you can appeal to even more fans. In this case, country-lovin' dog owners everywhere.

There’s a Country song with the same theme as that from 2005 by Sonny Burgess(no not the Rockabilly cat) from his CD “Stronger” called “The more I’m around some people, the more I like my dog”. It’s Country though, so you may not have heard it.

It’s not my favorite vocal performance from Carrie, but I agree it’s a funny novelty song. And I agree it’s nice to see that Carrie’s emotional range includes a wry sense of humor. Hoping there’s more where that came from.

Carrie can sing “Paradise City”, “Jesus Take the Wheel”, “The Sound of Music”, “Just Stand UP”, and good country songs like “I Told You So”, “Stand By Your Man” and an amazing, “How Great Thou Art” with intensity and soul. She is a talent that can sing anything…much like Martina, Allison, Trisha, Reba, Faith, Lee Ann and Patty. She is the best young singer out there today with a very long bright future. God Bless you Carrie!

Carrie can carry any type of song with dramatic aplomb. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it!

Ever since Simon Cowell told her she needed to get into a song emotionally before her final win. She has a left a trail of wonderment about her abilities.

“Just A Dream” is the best song in my opinion that she has done since Jesus Take The Wheel. That songs just captures your attention and many many people that have husbands or loved ones that have served this country can relate to broken dreams for the right reasons. Carrie you rock with this song.

Carrie has not sang anything I did not like. Her voice is so good. She shows class in everything she does. She has a great sence of humor. As long as she makes music I will be there to buy them.

I love all of her music. She is a great singer and has been wise enough to choose a lot of music that fits with her followers age groups. She has lots of music that anyone can relate to but is wise enough to get the attention of younger listeners. Keep it up. You had my vote from the very begining.

One of the most underrated songs on the cd. It has it all, melody, message, great chours, hook, and vocal. I wouldn’t be surprised if she released it. But, CR has so many other great songs for it to compete with. ‘Flat on the Floor”, “Get out of this town”, and “I know you won’t” are just some examples. It’s a nice problem to have. JAD will be her 4th straight number one from CR, IMO. And, who knows what else she’ll decide to release from this great cd.

Hey you need to listen to Carrie’s CD Carnival Ride. It has some of her best songs on it. And you have to listen to Jesus Take The Wheel. I love Carrie’s songs and she is one of my favorite singers.

“The More Boys I Meet” is definitely one of my favorite songs on Carnival Ride. But, then again, EVERY song off CR is my favorite, is it’s one of my ‘favorite favorites’. LOL!

Seriously, Carrie is a wonderful vocalist and can sing anything. She’s my favorite singer and probably always will be.

She definitely has the vocal abilities to sing all genres of music. She loves country music and it’s where her heart is. She also has a great sense of humor and even Last Name is really tongue-in-cheek humor. Her love of animals is obvious in The More Boys I Meet. This is a song that almost made it on Some Hearts. It was the last cut, but thankfully was still available for Carnival Ride. No matter how you cut it, it’s Carrie’s great vocals tht make all these songs so awesome. She will never be pigon-holed. She just has too much talent for that and also wants to give her fans the very best. Thank you Carrie for all the great music from country to gospel to rock to Christmas. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

I love this song - all Carrie’s songs, in fact. She’s a wonderfully versatile singer and performer, and I look forward to hearing a lot more from her. I have a female rat terrier named Allie, and I’m looking to fix her up with Ace!

From the beginning, I have loved this song. The first time I heard it my friend and I were driving and listening to her CD for the first time. When it came to “the more boys I meet, the more I love my DOG” we just lost it. We ended up playing it over and over and over again until we were exhausted, tears rolling down our faces from laughing so hard. Part of why we were laughing is that we thought at the time, it was probably true. My favorite, unexpected Carrie memory. Carrie is the best! With fans from the teens to the Seniors…who can do that except her!!!

Love the song “The more boys I meet” because it shows off Carries personality and the fact that she likes to have fun– otherwise life is dull and boring!!! I believe that this album is her very best because I love every song on it and its one of those albums you can listen to over and over and never get bored or tired of the songs on it–in fact I have one copy and I am in the proces of ordering another copy to keep in the car and to have as a backup in the event it gets scratched or something!! Definetly this album is one that any person of any age can truly enjoy–my granddaughters are 8 and they just love Carrie Underwood and they know all the words to every song on both of her albums!! Carrie is the best person in country music IMO anyways!!!

does anyone not love this girl?? (besides Jessica anyways??)

  • JaneDoe says:

    Posted: September 20th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

I’ll risk the criticism and say that that whole thing was overblown, and 90 percent of it probably wasn’t true. Jessica says she respects Carrie, and even requested one of her songs during a radio interview. All those things that Jessica supposedly said about her shouldn’t really matter because there were some pretty nasty things that Carrie supposedly said about Jess. i think that’s a very dead issue and from now on there should be respectful silence from both ladies and all their so-called “pals”.

  • JaneDoe says:

    Posted: September 21st, 2008 at 10:21 am

I might have to take that back. there’s a story out there now that jess stormed off after a fan told her that her performance was good at the Opry, and then (don’t ask me why this person thought this was ok, you kinda don’t do things like that) told jess what they thought about Carrie. i personally don’t blame jess though. that was rude, and fans as people, should know better than to try to cause trouble.

  • JaneDoe says:

    Posted: September 21st, 2008 at 10:24 am

anyway, dead issue. Carrie’s doing real well, and this is a cute song for sure.

Thats why she should just Marry Bryan. You know, the Family Guy dog. Woof Woof Carrie ! I’ll give you “kisses”. (yuck, don’t worry / human ones) I’ll “play dead” when there is housework to be done. I’ll “fetch” the paper for you. Most importantly I’ll “stay” by your side and be a faithful “companion”.
    Ruff, Ruff, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…Love Bryan Garten.
Marry Me Carrie and our Baby Girl can even ride around on my back.

What I want to know is how many amateur songwriters went out and tried to recreate this song. It’s just one of those one of a kind things that you wish you’d written… but somebody was more clever than you.

Personally, I’ve loved this tune from the beginning. But I think Carrie is capable of doing ANY song justice.

I’ve only heard Underwood sing Pop Music. Can’t imagine her singing any Roots music.

  • Kevin says:

    Posted: September 29th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Maybe you need to find some roots music blogs to comment on. I think you would be a happier person. Its very obvious that you dont like anything that is ever blogged about here. So you like “roots” music better than “pop” music. We understand. Not everybody sings “roots” and not everybody likes “roots”… so everybody is free to form their own opinion. You have your opinion and thats fine, but why do you have to express your opinion in such a negative way and continue to disrespect other forms of music every chance you get. I judge music based on each individual song. I dont care what genre or industry or anything else it is.. if i think its a good song i have no problem liking it. If i DONT like it then i just dont listen to it and i keep my mouth shut about it because i know that there are some people who do and im ok with that! I dont have to treat them like they are less of a human being to make myself feel better about the music i do like.

Well Kevin, I do comment on Roots blogs. If you look back at the posts, I wasn’t the one who said CU could sing any genre of music. I simply said I can’t imagine her singing Roots music. I too judge music based on each induvidual song. I comment on no music before I listen to it. I feel I have every right to do so, just as you do. So that’s where we differ, I’m all about basic music fundamentals and genre description, and I express my opinion and love and dislike for music I listen to, while you keep your mouth shut.
