A Tender Moment With Montgomery Gentry

![]()
I never imagined that I'd actually start crying at a Montgomery Gentry concert, but that's exactly what happened last week when I saw their show in Atlanta. Since it was toward the end of their set, I figured they'd probably sing "My Town" and then make way for Toby Keith. Instead they brought out a special guest - a young boy from Arizona who's Make-a-Wish dream was about to come true.
I immediately started welling up because my 4-year-old cousin and her family just returned from a Make-a-Wish trip to Disney World. She's been going back-and-forth to the Children's Hospital for a year-and-a-half now, and she's still in the midst of treatment for leukemia. She's such a strong kid, though, and on her good days her smile can light up a room. You could tell that the boy at the Montgomery Gentry concert was having the best day of his life. You'd never guess that he was sick, the way he belted out "My Town" into the mike. And the way he pumped his fist at the crowd, it's clear that he's seen more than a few Montgomery Gentry videos. When his little voice shouted out the chorus, the crowd went completely wild. I couldn't keep from wiping away tears, even though the whole situation was somehow uplifting. On behalf of my own family, I just want to say thanks to Montgomery Gentry for being a part of Make-a-Wish. It's more than just the kid that remembers these moments.

As a mom whose son received his Make A Wish in January of 1999. The memories and emotions of his perma grin that weekend come flooding back with every Make A Wish story. And as a big fan of Montgomery Gentry(saw them with Toby this summer),they just gave me another reason to continue my support and love for them and their music. THANK YOU

God bless the young people that are having to deal with the worst thing in life. Hats off to Montgomery Gentry for giving him his wish….. May God heal all of them.

That is so great, that is why they fit so well with Toby. Toby brought Trevor Scott out a few years ago and he had him on stage to sing American Soldier. Toby got down to his level and let Trevor sing the song by himself. What an honor that was. I love to see it when Artists do things for children with special needs, makes me love Toby and now Montgomery Gentry all the more. Thanks guys. You rock.

The tame bear shooting incident has irrevocably changed the way I look at Troy Gentry but it’s nice to see he’s capable of making a positive difference for someone else.

I have loved MG since they first came out. In fact, it is their CD in my car that is currently blasting for ALL to hear. lol That said, I pay little mind to their personal lives, realizing they are just regular folk who happen to be in the public eye & under constant scrutiny. They are just as capable of doing stupid deeds as anyone else NOT in the public eye. That incident is water under the bridge and it appears Troy boy is moving on. It’s like their “You Do Your Thing and I’ll Do Mine” lyric says about not judging, because we will ALL be judged someday.

I wonder if that bear had a wish? I’ll bet he did. Gentry had a wish too. Now the bear is dead, so who’s wish came true?

Hi, Craig, this is Annie’s grammy. I enjoyed your Make A Wish story. They are a fantastic organization! Your support means a lot to all the kids in her family.

It seems like it is hard for some to let go. Toy made a mistake he appoligized and he is paying for that mistake. MG helped bring me to country 4-5 years back, and now they’ve proven what good people they really are.

Hey there to the poet who should know it(some tact) would be nice when bringing a wish child into petty opinions.Whatever YOU may think of Troy and the bear situation you should leave kids out of all that. Makes me wonder if you’ve ever had to wish you would could go through hell instead of your child????????????????
