Shania Twain Might Have the "Hottest" Country Song Someday

Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 2:33 pm  |  By: Craig Shelburne

Shania TwainI've been looking at list of the "hottest" country songs in the last 50 years by Billboard magazine, and Shania Twain's "You're Still the One" is already at No. 3, even though it's only 10 years old. However, if she wants to claim the top spot someday, she's got her work cut out for her. Johnny Horton's "The Battle of New Orleans," the enduring smash hit from 1959, is No. 1. (Funny, I never thought I'd write "hottest" and "Johnny Horton" in the same story.) Kenny Rogers' "Lady" is No. 2. Great. Now I'll have that song in my head all day: "Let me hold you in my arms fa-ah-ah evermore ..."

I just wish Shania would come back on the music scene. I’ve really missed her and her music. I also don’t care if she’s POP Country. She is beautiful AND talented & I wish her the BEST in her personal life, as well as professional one. I say, “C’MON OVER SHANIA!!!!!”

Shania is in a league of her own and a worldwide icon in pop and country and the biggest selling country femal of alltime.
Her impact can be seen all over the world including how new acts in country music are trying to copy her.
There is only one Shania and I hope she comes back very soon.

I’m a pure country granny and I like Shania and hope she come back too.She not like the junk they are trying to pass off now like Jessice. She’s not country please bring back the country sings.I do like Carrie but from there down they can go back to the pop joints.

I’m waiting for RedMa to comment on how the posters don’t differentiate between Pop & country- that it’s “POP COUNTRY.” Then we’ll hear how it’s not REAL country like American, Red Dirt, etc. Thought I’d save him/her the trouble. That said, I STILL love Shania!

Shania set the standard for success and achievement for females in country music that nobody has come close to.
She holds records in over 100 countries and has some of the most memorable songs in pop and country history.
I miss her sassy songs or her love songs and her great attitude and how she carried her career with class.
The music world needs more classy icons like Shania and I hope Shania is done with her hiatus and ready to rock the world again.
There are too many wannabes and reality tv show people trying to copy Shania.
But you can’t duplicate an original. Shania is one of a kind artist and class act.

I think YOUR STILL THE ONE is a fantastic song. I just wish she would come back to country music. I loved to listen to all her songs when she was still in the country industry. I hope maybe one day she will miss it so much that she will decide to come back!!

LOL!!!!! Your hilarious!!! But I can definently see your point. Redma does have the tendency to critize between pop and country quite often

  • RedMaZ says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Looks like I’m as popular as Shania.

“tendency to critizize between Pop and Country quite often” makes no sense at all. Pop Country is a genre of music whether you like it or not, just as Roots Country is.

  • countryfan11 says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

I also meant Americana. Yeah, I’m glad I’m not the only one that notices. It gets old. To me, country is country and if an artist crosses over to wherever else is fine with me- just shows how much appeal they have all over the world. Shania set the standard HIGH and I’m waiting for her broken heart to heal, then get back to the biz of music. For anyone else liking something else– have at it, more power to ya!

I like to correct the less informed as soon as possible. Anyone who thinks “country is country” is living in the past. Before Countrypolitan. Try joining the 21st Century.

  • countryfan11 says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Nah, I like what I like, but thanks for the offer. I’m informed, just not there for the taking. To each his/her own, that much I can give EVERYone. It’s not a matter of correction, just preference, unless you’re feeling ignored. I find only the insecure have the NEED to be right.

  • RedMaZ says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

I know some people are content with be part of the masses, and I understand that. That’s what Mainstream Pop Culture is for. I find only the uniformed have the excuse to be wrong.

  • countryfan11 says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Well, consider us ALL informed since that’s all you mention in all of these POP COUNTRY blogs. Hey, I even noticed they have a roots BLOG today, and I am SURE you’ve contributed already, right?

Anyway, I’m hoping that Shania has some good material coming up, because we all know heartbreak is a songwriter’s dream. But then, Shania is also an UPbeat person, so I expect a bouncy tune is in order as well. C’mon Shania, your fans are waiting.

  • RedMaZ says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

How difficult is it to be informed about Pop Culture? Yes of course I’ve replied to the Roots blogs today. Justin Townes Earle, and No Depression Magazine. I refuse to limit myself. I also see you haven’t contributed to those blogs.

  • countryfan11 says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

That’s because I’ve been too busy providing a rebuttal to your nonsense. I’m still commenting on Shania, which IS what THIS blog is about. So, go back to your ROOTS blog, you’ve probably scared everyone away.

  • Dan says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

I have really loved Shania for the last decade but I feel she ran away from the fans.Once she became one of the richest entertainers in the world she had no motivation and went to hide in Switzerland and New Zealand.
I really hope I am wrong and Shania comes back real soon and does’t stay hidden.
When you have as much money as Shania and as much power you don’t deal in reality and lose touch with your fans.
This breakup was just another excuse in a line of excuses for Shania to not make music.
All she has been doing the last 5 years is buying up properties all over the world and shopping.
If music is Shania’s passion then she needs to prove it now.
People go through heartbreak all the time and get on with their life. Hurrican victims lose their loved ones and their homes and they get on with their life.
Shania has the world at her feet with tens of millions of loyal fans and she chooses to sit and hide for many years.
I know she is worth 450 million on her name alone and Mutt is worth over 500 million and they are both uber rich and can make music on their own time.
Shania is a global artist which sets her apart from other country artists, she has massive fanbase worldwide who have waited patiently for her to comeback.

I really do miss Shania because her charisma and her great attitude and songs set her apart as one of the best in music history.

  • Kayla says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:42 pm

No matter what Shania is going through people need time too heal their broken heart. She was married too “Mutt” for 14yrs and she didn’t expect the break - up she loved him dearly. Shania you come back when you feel ready I know I’ll still be here supporting you.

  • countryfan11 says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

We are not here to judge Shania and how she spends her life. You do what YOU want/need to do, she can have the same choice. Also, everyone heals in their own way & time, who are we to say how it should be for HER? When she comes back, you’ll either enjoy her or you won’t. Shania does NOT have to live her life according to her fans. I have missed her & will be waiting WHEN SHE IS READY!

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Just want to add that I love and miss Shania’s music too. I’m new to the “blog thing” but I love being able to reply about the artists I love to listen to. Also, I’m really seeing a pattern with this ongoing war w/ the roots/americana stuff. Maybe I’m wrong but if you don’t like the kind of music or the “fluff” it represents just don’t read it. I don’t care for certain music so I stay away from it and stick to the stuff I like. I guess you have your reasons for all of this but it just seems like nonsense to me. I guess in a nutshell what I’m trying to say is “if you don’t have anything nice to say, maybe you shouldn’t say anything at all.” Atleast that’s what my mother taught me and it’s what I try to teach my children. I’m not trying to be disrespectfull to your music. I respect your choice. All I’m asking is please don’t disrespect our choice. Just think about it, thanks.

  • Dan says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Kayla, you are not speaking as strong person.
People go through much worse stuff in life and don’t ask for people to feel sorry for them.Life goes on and if music is your passion then that would want you even more to make music.
Hate to break it to you but sitting in corner crying isn’t going to make you feel better. You show people you are strong.
it has been 5 months already and life goes on except people who don’t have Shania’s money or status can’t do what they want.
    Enough with the excuses.
And kayla spear me the garbage because you were not in their marriage and you have no clue what went on.

  • Dan says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

countryfan111, I disagree with you. When you have made hundreds of millions of dollars off of your fans then you do owe them more respect.
You don’t just vanish and then come back in 5 years when you want to promote something or sell something.
Shania hasnt’ been to fan fair in over 10 years, what is her excuse for every one of those years.

  • T in Ky says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Dan I agree that life moves on but you can’t put a time limit on something like this. If you go thru a horrible divorce, as it seems she has, sometimes you lose motivation for your “life passion”. Of course we were not in her marriage but it’s no secret that there was an affair and that would be difficult to deal with, especially with the whole world watching. I just can’t understand why people are so critical of celebrities. At the end of the day they are people just like us!

  • RedMaZ says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

To Graig Shelburn, You never thought you’d write hottest and Johnny Horton in the same story? Think about the song “Battle of New Orleans” and these lyrics. “We fired our cannons ’till the barrels melted down, so we grabbed an alligator and fought another round. We filled his head with cannonballs and powdered his behind, and when we touched the powder of…the gator lost his mind” That’s the Hottest!!!!

  • countryfan11 says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

And WHOSE “choice” was it to BUY her music? YOURS! Did Shania personally twist your arm and threaten you unless you did? NO! Like I said, if and when she comes back and promotes her new stuff, you STILL have the “choice” to buy or not buy. I really don’t care what she does with her time & $. I either like her/music or I don’t, which means I either do or don’t buy her music. Pretty simple really.

  • countryfan11 says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:05 pm

PS, if I ever GET the chance (not likely) to go to Fanfair, I am surely NOT going to stop liking an artist because they are a no-show. There are plenty of others that will be there to enjoy. That’s like holding a childish grudge.

  • Dan says:

countryfan, and I am sure she is happy to have sucker fans like you who are naive and treat her like a God.

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

T in Ky, what horrible divorce? lmao!!!
They are going to work everything out peacefully for their son. This is not some nasty divorce.
And how do you know the real truth? Were you there and did she tell you?
Stop making up stuff if you dont’ even know the facts.
The truth is that Shania has made excuses for over 5 years for sitting on her butt doing nothing and this is just another one.
I know people who have been through much worse and get right back out there the next day and they don’t have the money or resources. While Shania asks her fans to feel sorry for her lol!!!
You need a serious life reality check

  • T in Ky says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Dan I can honestly say you are such a jerk. What makes you such an authority on Shania? I think you are just mad because you could probably never get a woman as hot as Shania or never make as much money as she does. I think you seriously need a reality check!!!!!! Better yet get a life!!!!!

  • Dan says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

T in Ky, just telling the facts, deal with it.
And you sound really stupid because I am a big Shania fan and have been for many years but I also tell the truth and see it like it is.

  • Dan says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

    terry, stop posting garbage here.
Shania isn’t seeking anyone now, she is getting on with her life.
Any man in the world would love to meet somebody as gorgeous as Shania and as much money and wealth as Shania.
People will seek her out, she won’t be seeking anyone out.

  • countryfan11 says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Well let’s see Dan, I’m NOT a sucker, naive, nor do I think she’s a God. Frankly, I would say that about ANY artist. The only reason you’re bashing her is because she’s in the public eye. Who in the hell would want to be subjected to some fans idea of what MY life SHOULD (or not) consist of? I’m glad to hear there are some “authorities” on here though. I’d hate to think I speak for other fans or artists.
I’m with T in KY, you’re the one that needs to get a life!

  • T in Ky says:

    Posted: September 15th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Dan I really had some really nasty things to say to you, but I’m not going there. The main reason is I try to be a person who avoids conflict. You should try it sometime.lol
And to say I sound stupid because you are a Shania fan really doesn’t make much sense. You did earlier say you liked her but then proceeded to cut anyone down who defended her. Doesn’t sound like much of a fan. Anyway, this is how I look at it nobody looks good under a microscope. You either like somebody faults and all or you don’t. Don’t get your dander up,(lol) it’s just my opinion.

P.S. Like I said I’m new to this blog stuff can someone tell me what the heck this TERRY thing is about? Is he a nut or something?

I am not here to start a fight either, I am just being honest and telling it how it is.I have been a Shania fan for over 12 years and unlike many fans I sometimes say what they don’t want to hear.
Anway, lets hope Shania will have some new music very soon because the music world misses her.

Ah yes, life in a glass house, or fishbowl. I say whatever house Shania sets up next will hopefully be a successful one- what SHE considers successful, not us. Heaven knows the poor girl will be scrutinized nonetheless.

Wow…DAN I find your fierceness about who Shania is and who she should be compelling to repsond to, and I don’t generally respond to these blogs. You know one side to who Shania is. You know the women who is the mega-star. She, like all people, has many other sides to her life. Most of which would never be information that was available to the public. Let her live her life on her own timetable. Obsessing over what you feel she owes you as a fan is not healthy for anyone. She will be back when she is ready to be back, and no one has the right to expect anything more then that from anyone. You talk like she is some possession that you have the right to dictate to…..again this is not healthy.

cinderella, I disagree with you and agree with Dan.Every fan has every right to form an opinion on Shania and her actions. And I am a fan too and realized Shania took off and hid from her fans for years without telling them anything.Dan has every right to his opinion. Sure Shania can live her life on her own timetable but we as fans could also draw an opinion on how she became very lazy once she became one of the richest woman in Entertainment.
She also is always playing the victim and making excuses for not making music.Artists who are passionated about music don’t sit around making excuses why not to make music, the create do things. Shania has sat on her butt the last 6 years buying property all over the world and shopping. That is her right to do so and it is my right and others right to give an opinion on how we see Shania.

Simmone, you are dead wrong. Shania and Mutt Lange wrote YOU STILL THE ONE.
Get a clue buddy, Shania has written everyone of her songs from the last 3 albums with her husband.Shania only records songs she writes.

I generally don’t listen to country but somewhere during the middle of this year, I was exposed to Shania’s “Ka-Ching!” Hence, started my love for her (and the country music sang by her).

She really is a classy, sassy, sexy act with a fantastic voice. I’ve never enjoyed a singer’s voice so much. Nowadays, I listen to her songs everyday! She’s my fail-safe pick-me-up, doing to me what no amount of caffeine can!

Shania’s truly an icon in the music industry. Hopefully, she’ll be back to releasing more albums featuring her awesome vocals and amazing videos. Cheers.

Does anyone know who can be contacted to release another compilation of her latest videos just like “The Platinum Collection”?
