Roots Magazine No Depression Returns in Print Form
No Depression has returned in print form. The roots music magazine, which ceased publication earlier this year in favor of a Web site, is releasing the first of a projected series of "bookazines." The project, in conjunction with the University of Texas Press, is expected to be published in semi-annually each year. It's in the form of an oversize paperback book, 8-1/2 by 11 inches. The first edition is, as No Depression founders Grant Alden and Peter Blackstock note in their introduction, "youth-focused." It features Abigail Washburn and the Next Generation on the cover. Other stories cover the Duhks, Carrie Rodriguez, the Infamous Stringdusters, Sierra Hull, Samantha Crain, and other artists including Hanson, with an interesting justification for their inclusion here. A photo portfolio and album reviews are also included. The first issue is due in October.

Great news! (but I already knew it). The Holy Grail of music magazines is back. Couldn’t imagine knowing as much as I do about music without it. It’s more than just a magazine. It’s a musical textbook.
OutlawSteph says:
I’m disappointed in this “youth-focused” nonsense. The Americana Music Association can tell you about the diversity, age and otherwise, of the demographic that follows this kind of music. No Depression should have never give up being loyal to country.

RedMaZ says:
You bring up a good point OS, but even with the demographics that follow this music so does education. No Depression goes way beyond Country. Always has. It’s about Americana/Roots music. I say the sooner people learn about it the better.
Maura says:
Why does Hanson have to “justify” why they’re featured in a respected music publication? They’re brilliant musicians and songwriters, always were. Also their humanitarian efforts with aids victims in Africa is extensive.
RedMaZ says:
Swithing from Pop music to Roots Music sometimes needs Justification. I say more power to them. I will listen to their Roots effort with an open mind. I believe all Americana/Roots fans will. It’s what we do. Well, it’s what I do anyway.

My mother is looking for magazines that have articles or pics of the “Riders In The Sky”. If you have any suggestions or have any that pertain to them I would be very interested in getting them…Thank You,Julie
