Rest Easy, Patty Loveless Returns With Sleepless Nights
At last, Patty Loveless has a new album, Sleepless Nights. She's one of my favorite singers, and quite a few times in the last few years, I've wondered what she's been up to. (This story from the Tennessean explains her absence.) I think this collection of country cover songs is a remarkable effort, but she's showing up in a few other places, too.
I was surprised to hear her singing "No Good for Me" with Jimmy Wayne on his new album, Do You Believe Me Now. Also, her sterling rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Silver Springs" is the first selection on The Imus Ranch Record, which comes out next week. Beyond that, one of my friends gave me a bluegrass album by Gena Britt Tew, who gracefully covers "Go On," a song Loveless co-wrote and included on her Honky Tonk Angel album. And when I was at the SteelDrivers show this weekend at Station Inn, they played "Higher Than the Wall," a uplifting song that band members Mike Henderson and Chris Stapleton wrote, which Loveless recorded for her album, On Your Way Home. That's a whole lotta Loveless.

Picked up the new album today and I love it! I’m ready for Patty originals though and am glad for the Tennessean article that says she might be looking for them.
Thanks for reminding me about Patty singing Silver Spring. This I’ve got to hear.

I have not bought the new CD yet, but tuned in to watch Patty on the Opry last weekend, and decided then that I would. I’ve always been a fan, and I am a sucker for traditional songs. I hope she is headed back to the studio to record some originals, as well, but I will definitely add this album to my collection. I did not know about the Jimmy Wayne collaboration.

I am in heaven with all this new Patty music lately. Earlier this year she appeared on George’s Strait’s new album in a wonderful duet. And also on Kathy Matteaa’s.
Sleepless Nights is a true masterpiece. This should win the album of the year award next year.
