Jessica Simpson Supports the Troops on USO Tours
As an entertainer, Jessica Simpson is already used to touring -- but not just at arenas, fairs and festivals. She's also been actively involved in USO tours, marking her initial trek to the troops in 2001.
"The first USO tour was me and Neal McCoy and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and Rob Schneider. Actually, he's really funny. And Wayne Newton. We went to Bosnia and Afghanistan. It was pretty unbelievable. So I've been to Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Germany, all for the USO," she says. "It's been amazing to be a part of that. Even like Fort Hood in Texas and in San Diego, I've really tried to meet as many troops as I possibly can just to say thank you. There's nothing you can really ever do to thank them enough."
Simpson continues, "It is a very spiritual thing. What they're doing is a very spiritual thing -- that you're sacrificing your life for people you don't even know. So it's pretty unbelievable to be up there and sing ‘God Bless America' and have everybody sing it along with you. People are like weeping. And that was one of my favorite times to ever be on stage. I looked out and I saw all these people crying, and I'm like, ‘This is a prayer.' It's like ‘God Bless America' is something you grow up singing and you don't really realize that it's a prayer until you're actually in a war zone and see these people asking God to bless America. It's pretty powerful."

I have been to a couple of uso tours abroad, one of them was with Jessica. We didn’t have to go, we had a choice! She didn’t sell anything to the soliders! She didn’t have anything to promote! She slept in a tent people!!! My question would be hy would anyone, put someone down, for going overseas to entertain the troops! She may not be everyones favorite, but at least she was there. The soldiers I saw while she was performing, we’re more than happy she was there. I am a huge Jessica fan because of that. She is a gifted singer and country music should indeed embrace Jessica. I watched a few of Jessica’s videos on my computer that CMT has put on their site. She is absolutly AWFUL!!!! She cannot sing and if you think she does, maybe you need to have your ears checked. She sales sex and that is it. My husband is deployed and I wish I could hop on a plane and give him my own USO visit (I’m sure a lot of wives would like to, too). It really upsets me that stars, singers & people with money can go visit the soldiers but the families that are at home (waiting) have to wait 6, 9, 12 and 15 mths for their loved one to come home. Jessica Simpson is as fake as her blonde hair. A comment to the Tonya posted at 10:55am, of course soldiers go to the USO tours,regardless who is playing. A few hours of entertainment beats being alone and missing your family when you are not out on patrol, taking your mind off missing family. Jessica supports charities so that’s good. She has helped Operation Smile raise millions of dollars however there are some negative reports about her dumping the charity and her Kuwait concert. It is reasonable to expect that she would get publicity. She’s a big pop star and tabloid queen so cameras follow her everywhere.

All I can say is that im not going to bash someone who is following there dreams, living life the best they can, trying to continually hold they’re head up while they are always under constant critisism, is unbelievably beautiful, has suffered great loses and overcame many obstacles, and is a great role-model. Everyone has their faults, I’m not saying they don’t and no one is better or above the next person (some of you above shoulf remember that). Jessica is always herself. I’ve been a fan since she first started her carrer and she is a genuine person. Although some of you may not agree with her that’s fine, however, why do you and the rest of the world find it necessary to publish bash columns on ppl that you dont even know personally. Wow, I did not know that the actions of one person could spawn so many comments about them. I will admitt that I do like some of Jessica Simpson’s songs. I think that she has a pretty voice if she uses it the way that God intended her to use it. Whether she crossed over to country music just to keep her name in the paper no one will ever really know. I probaly will buy her new cd. If some of you have issues with that then you really need a life. I for one am way too busy with nursing school and taking care of my own life to care about the actions of anyone “famous” in Hollywood. For all of the negative people who have written ugly things about Jessica Simpson, you all should be ashamed of yourselves, but I know that you won’t because ignorance knows no right. I have been a Jessica Simpson fan since she first went to fame. Her ex-husband Nick Lachey had alot to do with it, because I was also a “98 Degree” fan. I first liked rap, then I went on to listen to R&B. I then started listening to pop(which is why i like Jessica), then I started listening to Rock. After 20 years, I started listening to nothing but country. I even listen to old country artist whom I know, would not approve of me because of my skin color. It makes no difference to me. I did not start out with it in my heart either, but I feel as if it has always been. There are a lot of artists from other genres that I do not like, but I have never posted anything bad about them because I don’t know them personally, so I cannot hate someone that much. I am a very strong person. (I have to be being that I am black, around a lot of people of all races who love dirty rap). I get made fun of all the time, due to the music that I listen to. I could not imagine someone being angry with me because I choose to listen to my music and support my music’s artists by buying there CD’s or attending concerts and buying magazines because they are on the cover. It’s crazy! Jessica is still a person, and it is wrong of people to insult her in this way. All of the artists from country-hip hop, are trying to make a profit. You really don’t know what is in their hearts. The one’s that you are being so crucial of, just might be the one’s with the true heart’s. Also, Jessica is in the “Country Weekly” magazine, singing Carrie Underwood’s praise! She said that Carrie has one of the best voices out there… The only people who seem to be hating are the ones who are posting these negative insults in regards to Jessica Simpson, but that is okay because just like me, my girl is from Texas, and we are “Texas Tough”!

Also, I love Sugarland, will they be considered “not country” because they have sang non-country songs like “Irreplaceable” by Beyonc, or “Whos says you can’t go home” by Bon Jovi (before it went country) and don’t tell me that song was country before it was rock, because I was a major Bon Jovi fan when I was a teenager (1989). Bon Jovi went country, and I still love him and his music. It is so different from those days, but just like Jessica, he has grown and has sought contry music as his new home. To me, country music is about acceptance, pride, and love of respectful music with some good values. At least that is why I switched. I get tired of hearing disrespectful music. Country is all that is left that is good, besides gospel. What you people should be angered about is Snoop Dog putting his paws into Country! I think I have a right to say that because I grew up listening to him, and wanting to follow his “crip” ways. I thank God that I grew out of that stage a very long time ago, but now I have children that like his type of music. Jessica is a good role-model. Unlike Britney, Paris, Lindsey, Lynn Spears, and others, Jessica has been a true “American Girl”.

i cant believe all the negativeatiy that i am hearing from “true country fans”….you look at the legends like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, etc. Some of there stuff which is now considered country would have NEVER been considered country, oh and even Kid Rock with some of his country songs…Carrie is amazing as is Taylor but you know Jessica is pretty amazing herself. And I cant beleive that you negative ppl are so uninviting…I thought country music was all about a song that feeds your soul, a soung that fits the moment, and someone who is singing about real life stuff….well, she has a lot of stuff like that if you would just take the time to listen and not point fingers. As far as her being fake….I’ve seen nothing of the sort and I have been a fan of her for about 10 years…she has been doing USO shows even as a pop star and she’s involved in a lot of other things like Operation Smile where she herself actually goes and helps with getting the children who need medical attention in poverty struken areas, she has a heart as big as Texas…and as a fellow Texas girl I know she will make it in this buisness!

If her cd fails it won’t be because of “uninviting country fans”. I have read some very positive comments right here at cmt about Darius Rucker, Kid Rock, and Colbie Caillet…all of whom are not really country.
It won’t be because people aren’t aware of her “big heart”. Who buys music because the singer is nice? Mother Teresa had a pretty big heart, but unless she had vocal talent, I don’t think she would have sold many albums had she decided to crossover to country from Catholicism.
It won’t be because she wasn’t given a chance or people “didn’t take the time to listen”. Her video is here and she’s getting played on the radio. If anything, people will be more likely to listen to her songs out of curiosity because of her name, so she has an advantage over other newcomers.
It won’t be because of “preconceived Jessica Simpson notions”. Though it might be because of “Jessica Simpson notions” formed after reading endless cmt stories with quotes from Simpson herself.
But mostly, if her cd fails, it will be because people aren’t entertained by her voice and songs. And country fans should not be blamed for her lack of talent.

Well DUH!, the article at the top of this thread does not talk about any specific USO show, so people have posted comments made by people who have attended several of them. The article above is just a pointless puff piece, like so many that have polluted CMT.com for the last couple of months.
What people here are reacting to is the shameless, incessant, and ubiquitous Jessica Simpson image-peddling that is tied in no way to any accomplishment, current event or particular interest on the part of country fans to read anything about her.
She is a tabloid celebrity and former reality TV star. If she wants to make it in country music, or any other genre, maybe she should just try singing, rather than forcing her already vastly over-exposed image onto us through this kind of heavy-handed PR blitz.
One last thing, “DUH!” if you thought this blog post was supposed to be promoting some ABC special, maybe you…er, the Simpson team… should try to get your money back from CMT, because you are the first to mention that show,or ABC, or Toby Keith.

No - I asked if being “hot” diminished her as a person or as a talent, and said that anyone that thinks she is less a person or talent because she’s beautiful needs to determine if maybe petty jealousy is driving them. I thought I was quite clear and eloquent actually.
