Kate and Kacey Coppola Start Their Big Machine

Kate and Kacey Coppola at Big MachineGood things happen even when you're not the top winner of a TV talent competition. Kate and Kacey Coppola, who gained national attention on CMT's Can You Duet, have signed a deal with Big Machine Records. The Nashville-based indie company is the label home of Trisha Yearwood, Jack Ingram and a young singer-songwriter named Taylor Swift, among others.

Perhaps influenced by their Can You Duet experience, the 25-year-old twins have a song titled "You're Not My Judge" that include phrases such as "love can build a bridge" and "mama, I think she's crazy." You can hear it for free in its entirety at Rhapsody. And you can also check out a video of "Stronger," performed at one of the Can You Duet tapings.

YES! Is all I can say to this news. These girls were my faves on the show, and I am so happy they finally got a record deal. I will be looking forward to hearing more from them and hopefully they can make it.

Pleased to see someone put you under contract. You two showed allot heart and drive in the Can You Duet comp. no matter what the Judges sometime seemed to try to bring you down, or so it seemed. The Best Of Luck, Follow Your Dreams.

Yes, those girls sing very well, my only concern is their attitudes. On the show they acted very stand-offish almost as though someone owed it to them to win. Naomi never once said she didn’t like them, she just pointed out that they needed to have a better attitude and ever since then they made it a point to bash her. Part of the job is to take constructive criticism, is it not? What happens when they don’t hear what they want to hear from their critics, record company, and “fans”? Are they going to go write harsh songs towards them too? Hopefully they can hold on in a dog eat dog world!

    Leah,

I can tell you that these two are not offish. I have had some interaction with them and they are both sweet. They make an effort to connect with their fans despite what certain Country Icon’s say.

    This is great news!!!

    Jeff-

I’m not saying I don’t like them and I am not basing my opinion on what Naomi Judd said. I am basing my opinion on what I saw on the show. I am just saying I hope they can get the whole package together to work in their favor. They seem to come off a bit harsh! I think they are very good singers, I just don’t want them to scare people away because of the way they act.

    Leah,

That makes some sense to me. Also take into account that for every 1 hour of reality TV footage aired there are about 300 hours that are edited out. It is possible that the editing was done in a way that makes them appear that way.

I just think that Naomi was a little harsh in her critiques. Some of what she said was totally un called for. The whole bit about not having any character or depth. How the H5LL is she going to know that based on a few hours of spending time with them.

Seems like Naomi has something against cute gals that have big talent. Not only did she come down way too hard on these two, and now - new season mega-talent Cassie and MeMarie get axed before we the audience even get a chance to vote for them. I thought they were one of the best duets this season. I’m completely baffled. The show just lost a viewer.
