Jessica Simpson: Honesty and Gas Help Make Her Normal
CMT.com's Craig Shelburne wrote a wonderful story about a Jessica Simpson concert out in California. Sounds like she nailed the performance and that the crowd really loved her. But the part of his story I can't get out of my head? Her admission onstage that she passes gas in bed. I don't know if that grosses me out or if it makes her seem more real. Probably the latter. Country artists, especially the women, tend to do better when fans realize they're just normal people who do normal things.

My take away from the Craig Shelburne article wasn’t that Simpson nailed the performance.
He didn’t really say much at all about the performance other than to tell readers the names of the songs she sang and about the stories she told.
After reading it, I wondered what he thought of her performance. He didn’t really say one way or the other.

Alan Jackson had it right in “She’s Gone Country” … a song about a desperate attempt to salvage a singers failing career. This girl’s career in Pop was failing, her films failed - so she thinks she can inflict herself on us. I saw an interview where she said she spent “three weeks” in Nashville creating her new album. She has all the great writers, producers and marketing Daddy can buy - but she is still a FRAUD!!! I also do not like her attacks on Carrie - Carrie has never talked about her bodily functions as Jessica did at her recent concert.

I think Jessica’s comment about gas was OK, in context.
She didn’t get gross about it. It wasn’t third-grade potty humor or what you would hear from a drunken fool in a bar.
It was just a light joke slipped into a stream-of-consciousness monologue in between songs.
I think some people are reading way too much into that.
However, I do question the sincerity of Jessica’s move to country.
And she needs to back off completely on this “rivalry” with Carrie Underwood. She can’t ever hope to match Carrie on vocals, and this public squabble just spotlights that weakness.
