Kenny Rogers Admits He's No Chesney

Posted: August 26th, 2008 at 4:01 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Kenny RogersHe's sold millions of records and made more money than he'll probably ever spend. But Kenny Rogers admits he can't compete with Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban. On a recent Fox Business show, Rogers talked about his particular place in the country world, and adds, "Honestly, I think they're too young to do what I do, so it's a nice niche I have." So what is his moneymaking niche? "If you give me a song that touches me, I think I can make it touch you," he said.

I got my tickets a few days ago for Kenny’s concert in Glasgow in April, the time’s going to drag by!

Anyone remember Kenny Rogers & the First Edition? They played at a dance hall in our city back in April, 1970. I was deeply impressed by Kenny’s vocals and have listened to his music ever since then. Kenny’s music has withstood the test of time.

LOL No you are no Kenny Chesney, but I like your music. Lets just say you are the time and Kenny is the place.

I sure do remember Kenny Rogers and the First Edition! I loved them! There was a member in that band that was from my hometown in Georgia! He may not sing and perform like Keith Urban, but I still enjoy listening to his music. Not a Chesney fan.

That is a funny comment. Kenny Rodgers has a style (somewhat like Tom Jones and also Jack Jones) that can often be imitated but never replaced! The older guys still have what we older women remember in our day, too.

That’s right, you’re definitely not Kenny Chesney, because you have way more talent in the fingernail of your pinky than Chesney has in his midget body.

I just saw both of them in concert. Kenny Rogers in Nashville in June and Kenny Chesney just 5 days ago. In concert nobody compares with Kenny Chesney…he is amazing.

Kenny I use to go to all your concerts and believe me you were awesome. There will never be another Kenny Rogers. He has a very romantic voice.

Although I like Kenny Rogers, I would have to disagree on one thing. He mentions his niche is to “sing a song that touches him and he will touch you” and states that Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban are both “too young” to do that. Totally disagree with that! Both Kenny and Keith present their music with such passion and their songs always touch me! Keith especially! Keith urban is not only an awesome guitarist but a excellent songwriter that writes from his heart and gives all of his soul to his music and fans. If you ever seen him in concert you would know exactly what I mean. Thanks!

i am still a kenny rogers fan. i also like kenny chesney, but i wasn,t thrilled when i saw his concert in san fransico. poor sound quality, and too much lights. i had a headache when i left. that wasn,t the case when i saw kenny rogers.

“Kenny, Kenny, we (your fans) don’t want you to be Kenny C or anyone else for that matter. We love YOU for who YOU are. You have given us YEARS of great music & you put on a GREAT show.”

This is what I would tell Kenny Rogers given the opportunity.

I am glad Kenny has always been able to reinvent himself and have his fingers in so many pies- photographer, Chicken (and it was yummy) and whatever other ventures he pursued. I also liked him when he was with the First Edition, but like fine wine, Kenny just got better with age. Very romantic ballads for the ladies, also shows a great sense of humor in his shows. Kenny doesn’t NEED to compete, he is an icon and one f-i-n-e example of a genuine country artist. He’s a classy classic!

It’s a shame that Kenny Rogers is not in and has never been nominated to the Country Music Hall of Fame. If you use Facebook you can help change this error by searching for Elect Kenny Rogers to the Country Music Hall of Fame!

    Thanks…
