Lee Ann Womack, Old Crow Worth Waiting For
I'm a big fan of Lee Ann Womack, as well as Old Crow Medicine Show, so naturally I've been eager to hear what they've been up to. The good news is, they both have new albums coming out in the next few months, and even better, both albums are solid. You just have to put your pre-conceived notions aside for a little bit. Let me explain ...
I pretty much wore out my copy of Womack's last album, There's More Where That Came From. I love traditional country music, but Call Me Crazy (coming on Oct. 21) doesn't adhere to such strict guidelines. Yet, you can't mistake it for anything but country music, and she's still plucking the highest caliber of songs from the piles of demos floating around Nashville. One particular treat is hearing her rendition of "The King of Broken Hearts," which George Strait sang on the Pure Country soundtrack. I've always had an appreciation for the lyric that goes, "The King of Broken Hearts doesn't know he's a king." Indeed. Strait himself shows up for a duet on the album as well, on "Everything But Quits."
The first time I played Old Crow Medicine Show's Tennessee Pusher (coming on Sept. 21), I was thinking, "Are they really singing about meth?" Yeah, they sure are. As always, listening to their lyrics is a lot like flipping through an atlas. They're so fun in concert, though, and I am eager to hear these songs when they play the Ryman in October. Don Was produced the album, and I'm relieved that he was able to catch some of their infectious energy on the disc. There are a few sad songs on here too, which is OK by me. This is country music we're talking about, after all.

Lee Ann is still in the game…the one that’s about real people and real country music. I’m all about it. Go for it CMT…promote the ol’ gal and get ratings…while radio tries to sell a set of tires to 14 year old kids by playing the young, sweet, white, average sounding blondie thangs. I dare ya…

I really read that headline wrong.

Cracking up at Chris N. … anyway, CAN’T WAIT for new music from Lee Ann Womack. As a student I bought CDs by the truckload; as an “adult,” I am far more discriminating. But I would buy a Lee Ann Womack CD even if I’d never heard a single song off of it.

Hey Craig, if you like “king” themed songs I highly recommend you track down Lane Turner’s “King of Pain” which was on the lone CD single he released through Warner Brothers a couple years back. How can you resist a lyric like:
“The king of pain, begins his reign, of misery……” (lol)

I cannot wait for Lee Ann Womack’s new album. I do like today’s young artists too (for the most part) and where country music is at, but I am a real fan of her traditional style music. I hope some word spreads and everyone goes and listens to her new music. It’s going to be awesome! Womack makes Texans like me proud!!

Cannot wait for Lee Ann’s new album. The release date has actually been been moved up to October 7th, so we can hear it sooner now :D . Also cannot wait to hear the second Womack/Strait duet!
Will check out Old Crow sometime. Thanks.

I checked with a label rep, and confirmed the Oct. 21 release date for Lee Ann’s new album. All the same, it’s worth waiting for…
CF from iCF Music says:
Really? I don’t know why they put the 7th on the official website.
Thanks for the confirmation, and I agree!
