Sean Patrick McGraw Unplugged at Studio 330
So I'm browsing CMT.com and I come across the photo for Sean Patrick McGraw Unplugged at Studio 330. I think to myself, "That looks like Niagara Falls in the background. I wonder why he took press photos there?" Come to find out, he's from a little town in Western upstate New York just like me. I know I seem a little too excited about this, but I hardly ever hear about anybody coming out of my neck of the woods, except the Goo Goo Dolls. People always look at me a little funny when I say where I'm from and according to McGraw they do the same to him. "People say ‘How'd you get into country being from upstate New York?' And I'm like, ‘You ought to see where I grew up.'" Amen, brother.
I did get a little hung up on the interviews, but I liked his music too. His writing seemed very intelligent to me, which made sense when I found out he was an English major in school. I think my favorite was "Fiona" and I especially liked his story on how it came to be. He says it's not about anyone in particular, but the name Fiona comes from someone he actually knew -- his friend John Prine's wife. After he wrote it, he gave her a copy. Later on Mr. Prine called McGraw and said, "Really love that song, but you shouldn't talk about my wife that way."

I have been a huge fan of Sean Patrick McGraw for several years. I totally agree with you about the “intelligent lyrics” comment. My idol has always been Kris Kristofferson and lyrics can sell or kill a song for me.
Sean has the ability to bring you into the story of the song as no one but Kris Kristofferson has ever done for me. Sean also manages to create upbeat dance hall songs that get the crowd rocking. I’m so happy to see him getting some recognition for his talent. I hope the powers that be take the time to really listen to his songs and realize what a treasure Sean is.
One of my favorite CD’s of Sean’s; “Tales From The Wild Midwest” is a testament to true lyrical and vocal talent. It also gives me hope for the future of Country Music!
