Rollin' With Kid Rock's "All Summer Long"

Posted: August 20th, 2008 at 2:44 pm  |  By: Whitney Self

Kid RockKid Rock's "All Summer Long" has become this summer's unofficial anthem. Perhaps it's the song's feel-good vibe with the smooth blend of Lynyrd Skynyrd's renowned "Sweet Home Alabama" and Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" that makes us love it so much. Or maybe it's the laid-back vibe and catchy lyrics that force us turn it up and sing at the top of our lungs. Or heck, maybe it's because it's Kid Rock and he drives a boat and has a stripper pole. "A stripper pole finds its way into every video," he admitted with a laugh, during a recent chat.

Directed by Robert Deaton and George Flanigen, "All Summer Long" was shot on Old Hickory Lake outside of Nashville. "And that was my boat in the video. It's actually something I was buying for an ex-girlfriend years ago and she was being really mean at the time. I was gonna put her name on the back but I was like, whatever, put ‘Cowboy' on the back and ship it to Detroit," he laughed. "You know, they always rent things out in videos. We need girls and a boat and this and that. And I'm like, ‘I got all that stuff. Let me just bring my own stuff.'"

So, packed with his own girls, his own boat and his own shirtless self, he successfully created a summertime fan favorite. "I've always said, to me, videos are not the point ... it's more about the song," he explained. But in this case, I personally love the video just as much as the song. For a minute we're all partying on the lake with Kid just "sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking ‘bout tomorrow ...."

I’m getting to like Kid Rock more and more…he never stops surprising me, and the song ‘All Summer Long’ is how we all dream of spending our summers, and the memories it evokes…WOW!

It’s on itunes, “All Summer Long”, but the artist is listed as “Hit Masters”, not Kid Rock.

This is officially the best song I’ve heard all summer long! It’s about having a good time out on the lake with someone you love. What could be better than that?! I swear I’ve heard that song a hunderd times and it hasn’t gotten old for me yet. I just hope Kid Rock keeps coming to country music with music like this. And Whitney, another amazing blog, keep it coming! :)

I can’t help thinking “that girl” he’d love to see again is his real-life old flame, since the blonde in the video looks a lot like Pamela Anderson. Anything to that?

If Kenny Chesney chose to have Kid Rock at one of his televised concert, he must have merit, so he’s growing on me. I like the song & video.

“Don’t stop at just one song-buy the CD it is awesome!”

You kinda have to, seeing as he refuses to release it as a single.

I don’t enjoy Kid Rock usually, but I have to admit this is one catchy song! Great recommendation, Whitney!

Ok-those of you that are coming around to Kid Rock and like fun songs like All Summer Long….. Check out Jerry Lee Lewis featuring Kid singing Honky Tonk Woman. It is so fun to hear those two singing together. It’s a great song!! It’s on itunes.

I am very disappointed in this song. I turn the radio off everytime it comes on. I believe it promotes all the wrong things to our youth of today…please kid…take a breather and correct yourself or just change over to pop…this is not country music…who are u anyway?

Reminds me of summers on Lake Superior, the beach, the sand bars, just hanging with your friends on a warm , sunny afternoon. That’s what we did as teenagers, it was heaven and still is when I go back. I know exactly what the Kid is talking about. It hit home for me.

Its a perfect representation of Michigan summers. My only complaint… why didn’t he shoot the video in Michigan? There are plenty of lakes that would have been perfect. Plus, you can’t really say “Northern Michigan” in the song and then film in Nashville!!

I started listening to Kid Rock a few years ago when my son left one of his cds in my car. I like the variety he puts in his cds. A little country a little rock and rap. His all summer long reminds me of some of the summers I had living in the Panama Canal when I was in high school. camping and parting by the ocean. It’s a great song that brings back memories. Keep making good music, someday I like to go to a concert. I heard they are real good.

If you grew up in the 80’s, this song IMMEDIATELY takes you back to THOSE years when I(you) were GROWING up, partying, having fun-NO Worries at all). It’s just terrific! I LOVE IT!

Wow what a fantastic song. Makes you just wanna party by the lake with your mates and forget about the problems of the world. I will never get tired of this song - it rocks! Does anyone know of the blonde in it is Monica Mayhem? She was a porn star.

I have every CD of Kids and blare it in the car every chance I get. This is just another song that solidifies how creative and how much Kid can relate to time that we all have experienced in our life.

And Barbara….lighten up. This is his personna. He is a partying rocker. Don’t listen to him if it isn’t your thing. I don’t think he has ever tried to be a role model to America.

When I first heard this song on the radio, I thought: Here is the anthem to just letting go and being free (Who says ditching responsibility on a temporary basis isn’t a good thing? It’s a great thing!)…feels like summer time to me! Kid Rock found the right words in the cavalier spirt of just living in the moment. I see blue sky and endless water.

Shame he filmed it somewhere other than the area that the song is about. I agree with Jennifer a few posts up. Torch Lake would have been perfect. Way to pass on an opportunity Kid.
