Hank Williams Jr. Joins Rehab on "Bartender Song"

Posted: August 20th, 2008 at 9:35 am  |  By: Chris Parton

Rehab is a fitting name for this group. They were first formed by two guys that met in a rehab program. Then they broke up and the band had to start all over with new members. Now they team up with Hank Williams Jr. for "Bartender Song," a reworked version of their hit, "Sittin' at a Bar." I like the story of this song a lot, although I hope I never have to actually live it out. Then again, I can definitely see myself and some friends slurring the words to this chorus at about 2 a.m. Then, the bartender persuading us to leave with a broom handle at 3 a.m. (still singing).

I thought CMT was supposed to represent the best and most talented in country music. This song is nothing close to country in anyway. It irritates me when people who cant make it in other genres then find a country music representative(hank) to propel them over the Nashville wall and try and convince us that the hip hop southern accent beat they are desperately trying to pass as country music makes it to number 8 on CMT. It insults the intelligence of country music fans. That we will be the quintessential kool aid drinkers of country music. All who like this pathetic excuse for music…you have been fooled.

To those that knock this song… I have listened to CMT for YEARS and am a country lover through and through… He did the same with Kid Rock. I wouldn’t doubt it if Hank himself approached Rehab, but even if he didn’t… A country legend would not have done a song that he didn’t feel his fans of COUNTRY would not enjoy… As I read this comments, I see that only a small percentage are nay sayers… but get real… The world changes… if you don’t want to change with it, thats fine… but people like the great Hank understand and embrace it… I still listen to old Hank Sr LPs and new Disturbed CDs! Get over it!

I started listening to Hank Sr in the 40’s. Later I found great teachings, fun and a real heart and soul of a man writing in singing songs from several genres.

He an are different - but through his conversations, and songs I feel much as he does. I have behaved as he did. I raised myself.

I Used to play a lot of guitar - currently Martin D-35. I am out of practice since 85 - another story of an unfaithful, druggie girl friend who I recovered her kidnapped baby. I think these are lessons for all involved. I help others but not something that damages me and my friends, family, and humanity.

Hank is only 7 years older than I. The years pass quickly - we sing about today the joy and the teachings.

    With Grace,

    Don

I had to listen to this version because someone told me about it. Two words SOLD OUT. Yeah it carries the same story but not the same feeling … wow night and day. Can’t wait for the reunion album sums it best.
