A Deeper Love for Randy Travis

Randy TravisWedding vows? Please. Those are so woefully shallow to me now. Things like "til death do us part" are no comparison to the lines of Randy Travis' newest single. "Dig Two Graves" is about devotion so deep, one can't even go on without the other. About how her love is the blood running through his veins. And how he will literally die without her.

The powerful chorus professes that "So I've made up my mind/Girl if it's your time/They can dig two graves/Carve one stone/Because without you here/I won't last long." Now that is true love. That sentiment may be a little too grim to work into wedding vows, but you definitely get the idea that this is what it feels like to be in a deep, deep love. And with Travis' distinctive yet straightforward baritone, the story doesn't get lost behind layers of music and vocal tricks.

I don't know if love like that really exists outside of country music. Do people really make good on that I-can't-live-without-you promise? Johnny Cash died six months after his wife June, and maybe that's what inspired this song. Heidi Newfield's "Johnny and June" touches on it, too, with her line "And when you're gone/I wanna go, too/Like Johnny and June." A few years back, even Rascal Flatts had a song called "Ellsworth," about an older woman's demise once her spouse was gone: "We started losing her when she lost him." Does anyone out there (besides Travis' songwriters) know of a love like this?

These songs about deep, deep, very deep love just don’t ever go over with me that well. Somes I feel cheated if my marriage is not like the song. Then I have to pull myself back to reality and say, OK its just a song. I know it must be very hard to lose a spouse but I think they would want you to be happy. and what if you have kids? Oh well….back to my amazing orninary, boring, exciting, suprizing life… LOL

Randy Travis sings about a love that we dream to have. A love that we come as one and we can not live apart. That is what true love is. A love that we don’t think of our self we think of each other.

This song is so special and has a deep meaning for my 3 brothers and I about our parents. Being a farmer and farmer’s wife (one transplanted from the city of Glasgow, Scotland to out in the country of no where land with outside toilets), they have meant the world to one another and finish each other’s sentences. I have heard them say in kidding, “I’m going to be the first to go” and the other will reply, “No you won’t..you’re not leaving me, I go first”. We all know that will not be far from the truth. When one goes, we know it will be such a heartache for the other that the other will be close…such as the case of John and June Cash.

I truly believe that Randy and Lib share that kind of love. That is why he can sing about those kind of songs so sincerely. I just love his music.

I RECENTLY LOST MY HUSBAND OF 20 YEARS AND THIS SONG REALLY HAS A SPECIAL MEANING FOR ME. IT IS TRULEY THE WAY I FEEL AT TIMES. HE WAS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE AND MY BEST FRIEND. WHEN WE SAID OUR VOWS, WE STOOD BEHIND THEM UNTIL THE VERY END, FOR RICHER OR POORER AND TIL DEATH DO US PART. I BELIEVE THIS SONG IS ONE OF THE BEST RANDY TRAVIS HAS DONE AND IT WILL STAY FRESH IN MY MIND FOR A LONG TIME, JUST LIKE THE LOVE OF DEAR SWEET HUSBAND. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG.THANK YOU RANDY FOR EXPRESSING THE FEELINGS THAT PEOPLE FEEL WITH THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE,ESPECIALLY A SPOUSE.
