New Music Videos: Kellie, Darius, Justin Are Screen Ready
CMT's new music video evaluation team convened to check out four new videos this week. Darius Rucker is out standing in a field, Kellie Pickler hosts her girlfriends, Justin Moore is back in the barnyard, and Luke Bryan gets goofy.
Artist: Kellie Pickler
Video: "Don't You Know You're Beautiful"
Director: Deaton Flanigen
Pickler and her girlfriends have fun at a slumber party and at a roller rink, while she sings them a lesson of self-empowerment. With such mini-lessons as, "He'll still love you if you don't give in."
Comments: "It's kinda like a shampoo commercial." "Or a PSA." "It is very pretty." "I like the song very much." "I think she looks good. She's prettier now than she's ever been."
Artist: Darius Rucker
Video: "Don't Think That I Don't Think About It"
Director: Wayne Isham
Rucker has stepped fully out of his Hootie persona, and "Don't Think That I Don't Think About It" showcases him well. It's a serious song, and he sings most of it while strumming his guitar and standing in a field. He tells the story while a man and a woman depict their romantic tensions.
Panelist Comments: "I love his voice." "I love the song." "That song is addicting." "He sounds authentic." "It's a really good record." "That's the way he did it with Hootie & the Blowfish, and it works."
Artist: Justin Moore:
Video: "Back That Thing Up"
Director: Wes Edwards
This video was screened last week and returns now in a version that was edited to address objectification issues with the original. It's much less rough-edged. Even the power drill is gone. The main double entendre remains decipherable for the audience's amusement.
Comments: "I asked them specifically to leave the pig in." "The sponge bath is gone. I'm disappointed." "The song's growing on me. Unfortunately." "It is pretty funny."
Artist: Luke Bryan
Video: "Country Man"
Director: Luke Bryan
The director's credit caused some viewer wonderment. But apparently Bryan had some fun letting his imagination run wild with what could be done about a country boy and his band. Working out in a gym, clowning around on the tour bus, and hitting the farm. More pigs. And a lot of porta-potties.
Comments: "What's with two videos full of pigs in one week?" "That was fun. It captures Luke perfectly." "I can see him on a farm. He's adorable." "This is a good example of a low-budget video."
Consensus: Darius Rucker's video and song seem a perfect fit to go into hot shot rotation. There are two other slots open. Kellie Pickler is a good fit for heavy rotation. Justin Moore seems right for medium rotation.

A. Fan says:
1) What was wrong with the Justin video before?
2) Could Luke’s record label not afford to hire a director?
Dan M. says:
I always love these entries. Keep ‘em comin’!
chris says:
Kellie’s video looks like Jessica Simpson’s ‘public affair’. lol
I think Justin is going to be favorite new artist.
Vicki says:
Justin’s song sounds like a remake of a Big and Rich song
Cole Edwards (JensBoyfriend) says:
Kellie’s new video is pretty neat, but the song is even better.
Darius Rucker will have to grow on me. I still haven’t really gotten into the song yet.
And, finally, I like to know what was wrong with Justin’s first version of the video. Hmm. I can only guess…….
Luke’s is hilarious. It does capture everything he is and stands for.
:)

back that thing up sucks. seriously. big and rich can pull the whole country-rap thing off but we don’t need more of it. this song’s almost as bad as bob that head. ugh shoot me

Ok you are just stupid. I watched Public Affair and what a complete waste of 4 minutes. It’s not nearly as good as Kellie’s video and the only thing they have in common is that one of the scenes in Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful was filmed at a skate rink. Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful is video of the year. Public Affair is cheap cheesy video of the year. lol
Keith says:
Kellie’s video is nothing like A PUBLIC AFFAIR, it has scenes of women of all shapes and forms and really represent what the song’s about… Jessica is just girls rolling around. Pickler’s done it again, fantastic video!
Tom says:
a pig in it already worked for pink floyd in the last century- why not sticking to a successful timeless formula?
To Be Fair says:
Kellie’s video is nothing like “A Public Affair.” I had to look that up, and agree with JB.
Kellie’s video is simpler, but presents far more images of women in a real and positive light. It’s much more rewarding.
Laura says:
I love Kellie’s new video, using girls and women of all ages and professions–even some in the cancer ward she filmed from- the message is a GREAT one women everywhere need to hear. Very positive & uplifting. Kellie is a sweetheart- loved her in concert last mo.
