Reading With Reba McEntire

Posted: July 29th, 2008 at 3:51 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Reba McEntireForget phonics in kindergarten. Now parents need to teach their kids to read before they even pack their book bags for the first day of school. But at least there's help, thanks to Reba McEntire. She's going to be hosting a new PBS show this fall, Toddling Toward Reading. I'm assuming it's a fusion of Sesame Street and Grammar Rock. Maybe she'll sing her way through the rules of reading. I still remember "Conjunction Junction" 35 years later, so music is definitely a powerful teaching tool.

Will it be closed captioned? That’s a joke. Will you have the option of hearing Reba sing it in Spanish, Kurdish, or any other language we don’t generally know how to teach reading to without special ESL teachers? I’m not sure if that’s a joke or not.

Doubt it’ll do as much as the Imagination Library.

Reba is so giving and I am sure a lot of young kids will reach higher reading goals thru Reba’s endless support of good works and charity. Thank you Reba for all that you do! You truly are an icon for so many people to look up to.

I think Reba naps between 2am and 4am every other Thursday, but that’s about it … (and we complain about a 40 hour work week!)

Reba is such a talented and giving artist. Now she is using her teaching degree to help young children to read. How wonderful as long as she keeps on perfroming!

In a day and age when it seems 50% of our nations children are dropping out of school, I am on bended knee to Reba and anyone else who tries to help our youth. Maybe her example will encourage more celeb’s to help out!

I think Reba is the best person to do this show and I was so excited to see that she was doing it! Reba McEntire has a teaching degree and like everyone knows one of the kindest hearts, best personality, and one of the most powerful voices this world has ever heard!

Reba, I’m an animal lover and work closely with HSUS. If you too are a “critter” lover, I would like to connect with you and see if you would consider singing a song I wrote about my late beloved dog Taz. Wayne Pacelle, the CEO of HSUS, knows me and that I’m trying to contact you. If you would do this, he knows that I will donate 60% of any proceeds to HSUS. Thanks!

PS I watch re-runs of your show every day and just laugh every time. As a former Yankee, I’m even learning how to say, Moo-ron.!
