No Cheers for Jessica Simpson?
Supposedly, Jessica Simpson got no love at her first major concert appearance up in Wisconsin on Saturday night. I find that hard to believe. Why would tens of thousands of fans, who had likely been drinking all day, be that hateful? She came onstage at the Country Thunder USA festival after Kellie Pickler and before Sara Evans, two very lovely bookends. She did some new stuff and a few classic country covers. However, one of the area newspapers, the Kenosha News, reported that many audience members agreed with one guy who said, "I just don't hear the country in her; I don't hear the twang. She's not good enough to be here." Many country fans agreed? How many did the reporter talk to? Ten? Because that isn't a majority.

Erin says:
That reporter must be delusional…and anyone else who agrees with that. Yeah…she might be new to country but that girl can sing! “Come On Over” is a great song. Not everybody in country music has twang. That’s not what makes someone a country artist. Look at Shania Twain. She doesn’t have that country twang in her voice…at least not a whole dang lot of it but she’s one of the best singers in country music. Personaly, I think Jessica is better country than pop.
Chris N. says:
So the reporter would have had to interview more than half of the crowd to get an accurate impression of the reaction? That might take a while.
Audrey T. says:
I like the song too and am looking forward to buying her album!
RanGurl says:
I was at the concert and I heard all cheers during the concert. I thought she did a good job on Saturday. If I knew how 2 upload video from my camera on here it would prove it too. Youtube had already taken it down after 5 minutes.
She was great and it’s as if people wanted to make a story out of it even if they had to make it up. I’m sure a few there in attendence didn’t like her, but there were no boos that I heard. I’m proud to say I cheered her on.
Chuck says:
I heard there were boos from a few that were there. So yes, she got some Boos. I’m sure the football fans were mean to her too.
David Nisbet, Scotland says:
The hate campaign against Jessica is well out of hand. It is truly pathetic the things being said about her.
Tee says:
I am a photographer with concertlivewire.com and I was at the show. Not once did I hear any booing. I am not really a Simpson fan, in fact I cannot tell you any of her songs but the media is really coming down hard on her for no reason. I think what happen is that a couple of fans in the lawn seats booed her and it got picked up by the media and blown out of proportion. So out of 30 or 40 thousand 2 or 3 booed her? Is that really worth reporting on? I have been to alot of concerts and their is always one or two booing the main act , so what. This was just my perspective of the evening and what I saw and heard and I heard no booing.
Alison says:
You’re right, Chris. Talking to 50 percent of the audience would’ve taken too long. But the reporter only quoted four men who didn’t like Simpson’s music. And that seems like a big leap to go from four people who disapproved to “many audience members found her vocals lacked a southern sound.”
CMT or another Rag says:
It seems to me CMT.com could find a reporter to witness instead of “Supposedly” reporting! Why any of the negativity? Why not a more positive title? You’re stooping again, CMT.com.
Jessie S. says:
Okay people, let’s face the facts here. Jessica Simpson is NOT country! She will never be country! Pop and country are two different genres for a reason. If you like her new single, my guess is it’s because you like the lyrics/musicality, not because you like her voice. Amazing Songwriters and producers are to thank for that, not Jessica. Let’s look at the history of country music. There have been artists that have had singles on both the country and pop charts, but that’s usually one maybe two songs in their career. Never (besides Jewel, which she never was a pop princess) has anyone tried to cross from a successful pop star into a country music star. What’s the point? Why not stick with what your good at? There’s no reason to fix what ain’t broken. So all you Jessica Simpson fans, why don’t you go thank Rachel Proctor, Victoria Banks, and Brett James their the real geniuses behind the song, NOT Jessica Simpson.
RE: Jessie S. says:
Rachel Proctor, Victoria Banks, and Brett James wouldn’t be working with her if they didn’t recognize her talent. Jessica has found herself in country music which IS what she is good at.
Chris N. says:
I agree that “Many audience members found her attempt to crossover into country irritating and that her vocals lacked a southern sound” is definitely an insupportable assumption. (And don’t even get me started on the typos.)
Chris N. says:
“Pop and country are two different genres for a reason.”
What was that reason again?
Karen says:
I like Jessica. She’s a nice person. The media likes to give her a hard time.
TexasT says:
Why did you name this article “No Cheers for Jessica Simpson?” and “Jessica Simpson got no love” because the Kenosha News article stated she got a mixed reaction: “Her first foray into country music was met with a mixed reaction from Saturday’s crowd.” “The crowd welcomed Simpson with a mixture of boos and cheers Saturday night.” It didn’t say “tens of thousands of fans” were “hateful” either. Yes, ten is many and the article didn’t say it was the majority who agreed. So their article is more accurate than your blog. Is anyone surprised that many audience members were disappointed when she sang one of her pop hits? This wasn’t Pop Thunder. If the reaction was positive, why are they having youtube remove fan videos? What are they trying to hide? They should leave them up to prove it was good.
CMT or another Rag says:
Seems like CMT.com is going to the Rag/Pop world while Jessica has gone country with blogs like this???
Harr119 says:
I was at the concert & thought she did a great job. All I heard was alot of cheers. Get the facts right & for once give this girl a positive feedback!!
JoesTexMix says:
I was at this concert and Jessica Simspon cannot sing. However no once cared to hear her talk either. She is desperate! STAY AWAY FROM COUNTRY - put the false hype from your papa and your PR where in belongs — into POP!
D says:
Maybe the boos were a big clue to what the fans thought? Duh
Steve says:
Rachel Proctor, Victoria Banks, and Brett James worked worked with her because they got PAID to do so….
RE: Steve says:
I doubt they would attach to just anyone… she obviously has talent. Too many people are basing their opinion of her on reporting from trashy tabloids. Too bad they aren’t smart enough to think for themselves.
hotelmotel says:
“Many” is an extremely vague word, so its difficult to tell from that report what the reception was.
Why the Moderation? says:
There are youtubes proving she was well received. This blog won’t post them for some reason ???
Why the Moderation? says:
This blog won’t post the web addresses to the Youtubes proving she was well received.
And ya all are country? says:
If you did boo, shame on you…..Country music folk are well known for being friendly…..Give the girl a chance. As for sounding country, she sounds just as country as Shania, Trisha and a few others…..the girl is from Texas, last I heard, country music was big there, and alot of country artists have came from there. So before everyone goes on saying, she stinks, etc…..give her a chance, you’ve heard one song, and I dare say that song is quite catchy. And NO I’m not a male, and I’m not young, I’m 52 yrs old and I like the song.
JoesTexMix says:
Yes ma’am or sir. We are country. We did give her a chance. We don’t like her.
That is our right to have an opinion, especially since none of her “ideas” seem to be original:
Take Note: Title song from Shania - Come on Over. Perfume name, Fancy, (which is selectively placed in her video)-Reba song about a girl getting sold for prostituion by her dad (Family) and her photo op for her perfume resembles Faith Hill “Breathe”. By the way, she notes Shania, Reba and Faith as 3 of her 4 “inspiration” perhaps she inspiration meant to copy their work.
Not original.
Any opportunity she had to mention Romo at her gig.
What a POP tart!
I am 35, male and I don’t like the song or her FAKEness.
We are Country. We are NOT stupid Ms Jessica Simpson.

I Like The Real Country says:
I have nothing against Ms. Simpson other than to ask if pop wasn’t lucrative enough for her so not she’s trying to capitalize on a country career. BUT, to put her between Kellie Pickler and Sara Evans (two very beautiful and talented COUNTRY singers) would put her in the disaster about to happen category. I think her version of These Boots Were Made for Walkin’ from the Dukes of Hazard movie should have made her think twice about a country music career.
Trevaughn says:
I saw the videos on youtube and Jessica was not booed at all the crowd was very positive and accepted her.It might have been ten people booing her but they can’t be heard and don’t matter.I think Jessica has a very successful career in country ahead of her and hate it or love it,JESSICA SIMPSON WILL MAKE A LASTING IMPRESSION ON YOU!!!
ONE QUESTION:
WHAT REASON DO PEOPLE HATE FOR???
AND IF YOU SAY BECAUSE SHE’S DUMB OR IRRITATING…NOT A GOOD REASON CAUSE WE ALL HAVE DONE THINGS OR SAID THINGS STUPID OR CRAZY…GIVE THE WOMAN A BREAK AND SUPPORT HER!!!
Ben says:
Not hating - we just do not like her style, voice and she seems rather plastic. So to speak.
She got a lil nasty in her performance - too much talking (and singing) especially when she said about all the @#$! - just a negative disposition. Why did she have to bring up tabloids.
Every performer goes thru the paps. She creates a negative environment and pouts her poison-injected lips. YE-UCK.
Please!!! says:
To all you people that say she is a nice person and has a good heart, I say Please!!! That is the knd of things you say about people you REALLY know. Yes, she made trips to the troops, but so mave many others. The only thing different is that not many of them had to bring along their hairstylist, make up artist and bodyguards. And lets not forget dad and the many, mant extra bags that carried her need to have, cant live with out hair extension, and make-up.
That is a move a pop singer would do. She is too hollywood to be country.
I will repeat what I said on the other blo for all you that sis not read it:
Wow, did everyone know that she was in nash. for a whole 3 weeks doing her album… Oh my, how could i have been so closed minded. she is soooo country and has the 3 week hotel reciept to prove it.
by the way, did i happen to miss sugarland on extra pushing their album, didnt thnk so. She is pop and that is all she knows how to be. She put her heart and soul in this album for 3 weeks, put some boots on and made a video in a barn
What was I thinking this girl is all counrty!!!!
The writers must have missed the memo to meet in ca!!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I agree with ben, she is all neg, see in the pop world any pub, good or bad, will sell records.I dont hate her because she is bumb. I dont like her because she thinks that we are dumb and believing all this “I love county” crap. If she was country, she would have came out as a country artist. Look at leanne rhimes, she came out when she was young. But she did not, she came out pop, because that is where she wanted to be. Failed there and has nowhere else to turn, That is why she thinks she is country.
Please!!! says:
typed a little fast, sorry about some bad spelling!!!
JoeTN says:
Jessica Simpson did not rock it at Country Thunder. She is washed up and a has-been. Her papa keeps throwing her and ALL her pictures of her “doing nothing” into the limelight and paparazzi INSISTING we must accept her into country.
And copying from Shania, Reba and Faith on her promos. Sickening.
I agree with the above remarks that we are country. We are not STUPID.
Let it go and let Country go.
Ethel says:
I’m sick of having her shoved down my throat.
1. Why was she playing after Kellie Picker who is far more talented?
2. Why is she plastered all our CW this month with the heavy hitters like Underwood and Swift and Pickler? She is nowhere in thier league. She has released one country song. She is in the magazine about 6 times.
3. She wanted to play at LPfield? WTH go down to the waterfront.
4. The beautiful and talented Sara Evans barely gets a mention on her night to shine because Jessica is a media hog.
5. Nobody wears that boots and plaid kinda look. Country performers like to look nice out there. Leave the jeans and button downs to the guys.
6. Country fans have not forgotten that Jessica dissed her fellow artist Carrie Underwood. That will be haunting her for quite a while.
7. If she is pregnant, she won’t be able to do all those shows her Dad is booking her for. She’ll cancel just like Ashlee did.
8. She can’t possible be dedicated to a music career when she is up her boyfriends rear following him all over the states, trying to keep her fashion business going, and trying to be in Nashville.
9. Listening on the radio is one thing but when you have to shell out money for a CD, lets see how many she sells.
I’m sick of her and her crazy family.
Food for thought says:
Why does she feel the need to mention Tony Romo and the fact that she’s “dating a boy” at every turn? Does she think we care that much about her and if she does, she’s really full of herself.
And did she really cuss at the show that evening?
Mandi says:
Country Music has been the last frontier that has managed to keep out the sell outs that Disney and Nickelodeon have plastered all over the pop charts. Jessica, your Disney Dollars can’t buy you an audience. We don’t need used up pop singers seeing Country Music as the new haven for the artists that teeny boppers have stopped buying.
The really reason ‘She’s Gone Country’ is that she can’t compete against the Hillary Duffs, Miley Cyruses and Christina Aguileras of the pop scene, so she looked for a demographic that doesn’t have a resident pop tart. We’ve already bought Carrie Underwood from Fox, how many more groomed for Hollywood stars are we willing to accommodate?
To the kids who grew up singing country and who spend their lives looking for their big break only to be passed over because someone with a few million in endorsements could pay for their stage time, isn’t just a crying shame, it’s a sin.
That and we don’t need the kind of country fans that Simpson would bring. Once the demographic appears open to her type of marketing, there will be more to come.
Can you imagine Simpson being invited to sing with Hank or Willie? Heck no. There is a reason that is so hard to picture.
In the words of Alan Jackson;
Nobody saw them running
From 16th Avenue
They never found the fingerprints
Or the weapon that was used
But someone killed country music
Cut out its heart and soul
They got away with murder
Down on music row
The almight dollar
And the lust for worldwide fame
Slowly killed tradition
And for that, someone should hang
They all say “Not Guilty!”
But the evidence will show
That murder was committed
Down on music row
Always Right says:
Amen Mandi.
DTR says:
The argument that Pop singers have never made it in country is pure BS. Look at Conway Twitty. Conway had hit songs in the country, pop, R&B and rock categories… and there are many more similar to him.
You Go Girl says:
I was present at the concert on Sat. night, in the front row mind you. I was very skeptical when I heard Jessica Simpson was there, but, I figured if I can sit thru Dolly Jr. (Kelly Pickler) I can sit through Jessica. Sitting in the front row, we can hear a lot of the cheering or what ever comes from behind that the performers can hear. I heard no booing! You all need to get it straight. I am 32 and wasn’t a Jessica Simpson fan. She came out and sang pretty damn good, and actually won me over. Anyone who thinks differently should stand up be a man and identify themselves and see if they could do half as good. I am sure that it was the Illinois folk who were the haters, as they do come up and hate on the Pack in Packer Land. I love everyone even though I live in Seattle. Even Kelly Pickler! Where else in the world would you get to sit in a corn field for 5 days, have a few cocktails, listen to great music, and make new friends! WELCOME ABOARD JESSICA!!
lauren says:
FOOD FOR THOUGHT,i watched the video on youtube and she did cuss. just answering your question.!!!!
Food for thought says:
Lauren - thanks.
Nice. I suppose a few novelty country accessories, boots, and some cussin’ makes her a tough, hip country girl!
Anne says:
Alright, Jessica does have talent, it just doesnt really hit me like some other artists…and yea she doesnt have a country accent, but look at Taylor Swift she was born in PA then moved down south… so her roots are from the north…and c`mon boos are harsh just try to have fun when it comes to pop-country switches… and like I said she just doesnt hit me but you know Come On Over isnt too bad I can see it
No Talent says:
Jessica simpson has no talent. She lacks the “IT” factor.
She may be from Texas, but she ain’t country. Taylor may be from PA, but she is country. Taylor is embraced by country fans young and old, male and female.
Again, jessica Simpson lacks the “IT” factor and is not country at heart.
Very negative with her T-shirt antics toward CArrie, but it backfired and at Country Thunder she was complaining about the “!@# that is out there (paparazzi).
Grow up and move on - almost 30 yrs old!
youtube says:
The youtube videos don’t show the part where the reporter said she was booed and cheered—”The crowd welcomed Simpson with a mixture of boos and cheers Saturday night. She strutted onto the stage in Daisy Duke shorts, a white button-down shirt and cowboy boots as she sang a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots are Made for Walking.”
Butthead says:
Oh, and she’s going to feel really dumb when her and Romo bite the dust and hearing all these recordings of her gushing like a 10th grader. You’re nearly 30 years old for Pete’s sake! Leave him out of your so-called professional life. It makes us sick.
who’s more reliable says:
More on the dad’s spin on the booing reports:
So we’re supposed to believe the small town Wisconsin reporter is so biased against Jessica Simpson that she wrote lies about what happened at the concert?
And we are also supposed to believe Simpson’s own father/manager is the more reliable, unbiased source for the events at the concert?
What does the poor reporter have to gain from lying about Jessica’s reception at Country Thunder? Not much, I think (although the Simpson’s might try to say she is the leader of the “Jealous Jessica Haters of America”). But Joe Simpson sure would benefit if people bought his version of what happened (standing ovation, event planner saying she was the best act there, etc)
KIM says:
go to thesebootsaremadeforstalkingdotcom. She got MANY cheers!!
who’s more reliable says:
Nobody ever claimed that she didn’t get cheers. The reporter said “The crowd welcomed Simpson with a mixture of boos and cheers”
You have to wade through all the stuff he would have people believe (her standing ovation, she was better than all the other performers there, downplaying the boos)to get to it, but even Joe admits she was booed in his statement about Country Thunder.
Funny how we haven’t heard any reports of the other performers getting booed along with their cheers. The videos of some of the other performers there show more enthusiastic crowds than what I’ve seen for Jessica.
So, yeah, she got cheers. She also got booed and she was probably the only performer there that did.
julissa says:
hi Ethel i just read your comment and i agree with you so much you have just taken the words out of my mouth!!!..=)
seriously Jessica is an attention tabloid whore she doesn’t belong in the singing world with the real talent in country…or any genre for that matter, and she has no class, to diss Carrie like that she needs to leave the drama in hollywood…Carrie has done nothing to her but date her “boy” in the past and SING better then her, not to mention she has the success jessica only wishes she had!!! she doesn’t need to hate on Carrie for her own insecurities she didn’t like it when pamela called her names so she shouldn’t do it to others …i think jessica is a fake and a hyprocrite…and she talks to much about her personal life when no one cares it’s a singing event not a heart to heart…she is so full of herself and i wouldn’t mind if she goes away already. one thing like Ethel said is hearing it on the radio is one thing but wasting money on jessica’s CD is another.
Nicole says:
I used to be a Jessica fan but now I feel everything she does is orchestrated by her father! Yesterday i finally seen her new video on CMT and was disgusted! Did someone tell her she was doing a shoot for ‘Girls Next Door’? She is so pretty but for some reason she thinks she needs to come across like a porn star. I thought CMT was one channel my kids could watch but not since she has hit the scene. I just wonder if her dad directed that video?

Jessica Simpson’s New Perfume Stinks, Informal Survey Says |Published by MTV News on Friday, July 25, By Jennifer Vineyard
Jessica Simpson’s no stranger to the perfume counter. With all the products she’s put out over the years, including the Dessert line, you’d think she’d be an expert on fragrances by now — well, at least when it comes to kids’ stuff. Her first foray into an adult line — called Fancy — launches in department stories August 15.
“With Fancy, I wanted to create a pretty fragrance, one that I could be just as comfortable wearing on the red carpet or every day with my favorite jeans,” the singer said in a statement. (Jessica already has a jeans line, but she recently announced she’s branching out with contemporary dresses and lingerie to launch next spring…
However, that combo wasn’t too pleasing for several of our female staffers and interns (and even a few brave guys!) who sniff-tested a sample of the scent. The overall consensus was that it smelled like a little girl playing dress-up. …15 of them had to say:
“It smells like the perfume girls would bring to summer camp (…likely swiped from their mothers’ vanities).” — Rya
“It smells kind of old lady-ish….” — Kristen
“I wouldn’t wear it. It smells like a girl and not a woman. It’s too fruity. It smells like cotton candy.” — Shannon
“It smells like a mix of lillies and bubblegum. Random, but good.” — Christina
“I have a bunch of jewelry that belonged to my great-grandmother, including a pendant that held perfume and tainted all the other necklaces it was stored with. This smells like my great-grandmother’s jewelry.” — Lindsey
“It’s awful. It smells like the cheap stuff they sell at Duane Reade.” — Tami
“It makes me want to put my hair in pigtails. It’s way too sweet smelling.” — Kate
“It’s a good smell for food, but not so much for perfume.” — Steve
“I would wear it. In fact, it’s kind of like the fragrances I already wear. I really like sweet, fruity, ….” — Brittany
“That smells horrible and I would never wear it. It’s too strong and sweet. I still smell it, and it is making me nauseated.” — Julie
“It’s a lot like when you leave a bunch of cotton candy in a hot car, and then get back in the car a couple of hours later. Once the initial sweetness dissipates, it smells oddly boozy, …” — Michelle
“After the amber sinks in, it has a lasting musk smell. I do not like the perfume!” — Kelly
“It’s a pleasant surprise. It’s very sophisticated for Jessica Simpson.” Ashley
“When combined, this seductive bouquet of exotic fruits, tantalizing candy flavors, and other fabulous scents immediately singes the nostril and causes freakishly violent nausea. If my girl was wearing this, I’d have to really reconsider my relationship status on Facebook.” — Sebastian
“It smells like cotton candy, which I love to eat, but not to wear. Who wants to smell sticky?” — Liz
FANCY-Reba’s song says:
I remember it all very well lookin’ back
It was the summer I turned eighteen
We lived in a one room, rundown shack
On the outskirts of New Orleans
We didn’t have money for food or rent
To say the least we were hard pressed
Then Mama spent every last penny we had
To buy me a dancin’ dress
Mama washed and combed and curled my hair
And she painted my eyes and lips
Then I stepped into a satin’ dancin’ dress That had a split on the side clean up
to my hip
It was red velvet trim and it fit me good
Standin’ back from the lookin’ glass
There stood a woman where a half grown kid
had stood
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
Mama dabbled a little bit of perfume on my neck
And she kissed my cheek
Then I saw the tears wellin’ up in her troubled eys
As she started to speak
She looked at a pitiful shack and then she looked at me and took a ragged breath
She said your Pa’s runned off and I’m real sick
And the baby’s gonna starve to death
She handed me a heart shaped locket that said
“To thine own self be true”
And I shivered as I watched a roach crawl accross
The toe of my high heeled shoe
It sounded like somebody else that was talkin’
Askin’ “Mama what do I do?”
She said just be nice to the gentlemen Fancy
They’ll be nice to you
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
Here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
Lord forgive me for what I do,
But if you want out, well it’s up to you
Don’t let me down now, your Mama’s gonna move you uptown
Well, that was the last time I saw my Ma
When I left that rickety shack
The welfare people came and took the baby
Mama died and I ain’t been back
But the wheels of fate had started to turn
And for me there was no way out
And it wasn’t very long ’til I knew exactly
What my Mama’d been talkin’ about
I knew what I had to do and I made myself this solemn vow
That I’s gonna be a lady someday
Though I didn’t know when or how
But I couldn’t see spending the rest of my life
With my head hung down in shame you know
I might have been born just plain white trash
But Fancy was my name
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
Hank Williams Sr. says:
I heard her sing and rolled over in my grave. I guess you have to get as drunk as I used to get to buy this album. I just her John Cash threw up in his grave.
