"Mountain Music" Always Takes Me Home
I swear I can remember the concert. I can hear the commotion, the noise and who could forget the music? I even remember dancing. I was kicking my feet from side to side. In fact, I was dancing with my mother. I just know I was. I remember it like it was yesterday. It's no wonder that every time I go to a honky-tonk, I request an Alabama song. It was one of my first exposures to music and I'm proud to say, country music. It was my first concert.
My mother and I were talking about this concert a couple of weeks ago. I was telling her how Alabama's lead singer Randy Owen was going to be on Unplugged at Studio 330 and how I remembered so vividly being at the Alabama concert with her. She looked at me with confusion. "Wait," she said. "Whitney, how could you possibly remember that?"
What I didn't mention earlier is that my mother was pregnant with me at the time of this concert. But really, that doesn't matter. I remember it all the same, even if I was inside her belly. I know I was there. I know I remember. To this day, "Mountain Music" always takes me back.

I’m not from the south - but still, there is something about an Alabama song that always takes me back to my little home town in the West.

What a beautiful song. I too feel that the song takes a person home. Randy sounds as strong as he did several years back when I saw him in concert. I love the fact that Whitney
you find songs from young to old and still have a way of letting us all in on your life. Keep up the great blogs.

Ahhh, but can you remember where you left your car keys? ;-) Ironic memory for me is that the first time I remember seeing the name “Whitney Self”, it was the photo credit on pictures of Megan Mullins (the fiddle player in this video, for those who don’t know) at Fan Fair 2006. Some good blogs since then.

Whintey it’s so great that an older band can mix with the new generation. I myself am very fond of Alabama too. It seems like their songs relate to everyone in some way or another. Every song I’ve heard of theirs is wonderful. They are an old band with an older sound but it’s kind of refreshing to hear something a little bit different now and again. Again, great blog, you;re doing a wonderful job. Keep them coming! :)
